A New Cooking Foray

For my birthday last year my parents gifted me an Instant Pot because my beloved crock pot had just gone to the big kitchen in the sky. I’ve been making basic things in it since and getting to know the quirks of my machine. Now I’m ready to step my cooking game….

Wish me luck!

  1. The IP won’t “replace” your crock-pot (I’ll confess I have one of each) but it will considerably speed up meals. Mac & cheese, for instance, takes about 5 minutes once the pot comes up to pressure.

The beauty is that you put stuff in, turn it on and walk away until it’s done – no stirring, no worries about anything boiling over, no constant monitoring.

It’s shortfall, IMHO, is that some things just taste better when they simmer all day. Pasta sauce is one thing I will always cook in my crock-pot because it needs the extra time for the flavors to mingle (your mileage may vary) but beans from dry to perfect in 40 minutes? Sign me up for that! Also, check out all the cheesecake recipes online – divine!

I haven’t used mine as a crock-pot because all the heat comes from the bottom, rather than from all sides as a crock-pot does, which means you have to stir or you’ll end up with food burnt to the bottom, and what’s the point of that? You could just as well put a pot on the stove if you’re gonna be stirring all day…

  2. I requested one for Christmas from my hubby and got it 🙂 I’ve been having fun making things like homemade chicken soup (from frozen chicken), chicken and mushroom rice, pot roast with all the fixings, pulled pork, etc. There are so many awesome recipes on Pinterest and also several blogs that are dedicated to the Instant Pot. I love it so much that I bought one for my bestie 😀

  3. Gosh I think we have five crockpots because everyone was gifting them to us right after we got married. I haven’t even thought of purchasing one of these but now you’ve stirred that curiosity. I hope you share what you think as you try new things
