The 2018 Advent Socks are extremely close to being done.

I cut the heels in last week and got the live stitches on the needles. I have just been avoiding knitting the actual heels. I do a modified afterthought heel where I add extra plain rows when I start the heel and methodically work down to the alternating decrease row/plain row pattern. This creates a deeper heel that fits my specific foot better. The fabric doesn’t slip down into the foot portion nearly as badly.
Both of these are ready for Kitchener and I’m feeling the task avoidance….
Happy Knitting!!
I love that you named the task avoidance, that’s so real. You’re *this close* to the finish line and suddenly Kitchener feels like the hardest stitch in the world, right?
Your modified afterthought heel technique sounds brilliant, though. Adding those extra plain rows to create depth that actually stays in place? That’s the kind of customization that separates someone who just follows patterns from someone who *actually solves their own foot*. Most people would just live with heels that slip. You’re out here engineering better socks.
Push through the avoidance. Those 2018 Advent Socks have earned their graft. Once you Kitchener those heels closed, you’ll have the satisfaction of socks that work as well as they look. And honestly? The procrastination is half the knitting journey anyway. Happy grafting! 🧦
The socks are really pretty, like Sheknowsallblog said push through those socks have earned their graft. You’ll be glad you did not let the “task avoidance” win :).
