Yeaterday at lunch I pulled out my Vanilla Maple socks and saw this….
A dropped stitch that had laddered at least eight rows down. Now I’m at work with just my project bag and no tool kit. I had also had a terrible morning and was in need of some knitting therapy. I was grumpy because I didn’t want to rip back to the drop I just wanted to ladder it back up but had to wait till I had access to my tiny crochet hook. I was going to be very unhappy with nothing for my hands to do…
Then I remembered my Squirrel like nature and ran to the car for my “car” knitting as a backup. Day saved! And I have since fixed the dropped stitch and stashed a crochet hook and tapestry needle in my project bag. I learned my lesson….always have extra tools. And if all else fails, have a backup project!

A tiny tin, zip bag or Lantern Moon sleeve with a needle, a tiny crochet hook and a pair of scissors, nail clippers, or puppy snips are in each of my projects. Saves stress attacks😁
I totally have those….but at home where they were less than helpful lol!
I have a bunch of little makeup bags with hook, holder, marker, manicure scissors…the emergency kit because I too learned the hard way. 😉
Sounds like a plan, and so (sew) glad you were able to get that stitch fixed. Those socks look really good.
If it ever happens again (I hope not!) Use a paper clip – just bend it to the shape you need. 🙂 Glad you had a back up project – I am sweating now because I just have my socks with me, no back up, so I hope all is well in that knitting bag of mine!
You can also fix that with your knitting needles! Put the left one through the loop, then under the bottom ladder (that you’d usually catch with your hook). Pop the loop over the ladder to give you the new loop, and repeat until you’re back at the top! Loop goes to left needle, and on you go.
Neat trick and I’ve done that before. But I use an 8 inch circular for the main sock that didn’t really leave me much needle to work with and my dpns were at home. I really was up a creek!
Oh, I can see why you might not be able to get that short needle in there!

Definitely need the essential tools at all times! Great colors and stripes, can’t wait to see how the FO comes out.
lol. I should remember to keep a small “tool kit” at the office. Although I do have crochet hooks lurking in my pen holder and a box of needles and pins, cotton, safety pins, scissors and such hidden in a drawer. 🙂
