It’s been heckin’ cold and snowy around here. And the basket of blankets has been in good rotation. Jellybean has been liking my Pigskin Party Blitz Blanket from 2024. It’s super long just like him
Duke is less skilled at using blankets. But he tried…….A for effort buddy.
After looking honestly at my blanket yesterday I pulled my handspun tub upstairs and did a good dive into it.
I am finding a new things that might work. Except for the two marled skeins in the middle, these are VERY early handspun. It’s honestly thicker and bulkier than what is in my blanket now. I am for sure going to use the blue, pink and dark brown. I am less sure about the pink/yellow mix. And I’d like to save the two marled skeins for last in case I don’t need them.
It is a nice silver lining to finally use some this handspun in a project. With a unique and bulky as this is, I don’t know what else I would have done with it anyway.
I am still trying to work fairly consistently on this Comfort Blanket. And I’m running low on the handspun I have originally pulled for this project.
The alternating the different skeins is really breaking up the colors nicely. It can get a little tangly when I am turning the blanket back and forth. I am just concerned that this isn’t very big with what I have left. I need to do some stash diving and see what I have would have that could be added to this project.
I am now entering the phase where I watching my ball of yarn to make sure I can finish a full row of stitches. I do want to try to finish with a row of SC to make a stronger edge to match the cast on edge.
This project is super heavy and I am not looking forward to blocking this one. I am fairly certain my washing machine on the delicate cycle will be the way to go. I have a clothesline in the basement I can hang this one to stretch it out using its own weight.
I am committed to this blanket. I really want this done and I am honestly kind of bored with the monotony. It’s also getting very heavy and I started using blanket clips to help me flip it back and forth. And I am persevering, I am officially on skein 10 for my Pigskin Party Blitz Blanket.
I coming to the realization that this thing will be mahoosive. Unblocked and still one skein to go….this thing covers my parents patio table. This will probably end up a large throw size. I am fairly happy with the color progressions. If I wasn’t trying to clear out this yarn, I might have left out the teal and the green/yellow.
One more skein and I can check this off! Happy Knitting!!
I think my Blitz Blanket has reached skein 7 out of 11. And it is now big enough to cover a small table!
I am through the yellows and greens and working back to pink in my “fade”. The blanket will book end by moving back to purples same as I started with. I had a lot of purple from this dyer, including two skeins each of some of the same purples. I REALLY want to get done with this before the SuperBowl for the bonus points in the Pigskin Party KAL.
I am motivating myself by not starting any new projects that are big. I super bad want to start another Radiate sweater by Joji and then start a worsted sweater with the Brooklyn Tweed I purchased last month.
My Blitz blanket is growing despite the busy holiday season. I am now fully into skein 5!
The sides continue to be wonky but I am getting more proficient at the turn! I am hoping blocking will hide some of my sins. Or I will have a perfectly imperfect project to keep me sunggly. It’s reaching a nice size where it keeps my lap warm!
Duke thinks so too!! Or he really wants me to put my crafting down and give him all the pets!
I am finally up and running with my blanket do-over with my Chromatic Yarns DK stash. I had previously frogged this knitted blanket.
I did add an extra repeat to the pattern I got from Etsy. It is called the Sundance Throw Blanket by Mama in a Stitch. It’s a really basic granny stitch but with chevrons. This is a new skill for me and the first row took some concerted concentration.
I was able to chain and work the first two rows while having afternoon playdate on the patio. And I think I cracked it! It felt really nice to get ahold of a new skill! I am hoping for this to be a blitzy project for the Pigsking Party KAL 2024 and finally get this beautiful yarn into a finished project.
