Christmas Eve Cast On

I admit I am struggling to get fully into the holiday spirit. I knew I wanted a Christmas Eve cast on but I just couldn’t decide what I wanted it to be. So I decided to make up a kit from stuff I already had. And it worked out nicely

I pulled out last year’s Christmas pajamas and I’m just praying they fit after my COVID weight gain. And then I grabbed a bottle of wine off my wine rack that I have been meaning to try.

Next up was the yarn and pattern I received as part of my 2020 Nomad Yarns retreat back in October. I grabbed the Transforming Mitts pattern by Erika Kempf Broughton and the yarn of Tweed Rocks from Nomad Yarns. It feels good to use this yarn with the pattern it was designed for.

It’s not the perfect AHA project I have had in years past. But it’s good enough for 2020. And I mostly can’t wait to put the world aside and just watch Christmas through my children’s eyes. We are going to “bubble” with my parents and isolate from the world on their property. All I want for Christmas is knitting, a good wine and not to be the primary adult for a little bit.

What do you want Santa to bring you?

Cast On: Faded Fingerless Mitts

I may have fade on the brain lately. I finished my Free Your Fade last week and I was over the moon. But I still had a decent chunk of the grey and raspberry left and I decided to make a matching accessory to go with the shawl.

I cast on some DK weight fingerless mitts. Our house has had too many germs for relying on my brain to make a pattern so I found a great free pattern on Ravelry. I’m using Fingerless Mitts by Cheryl Goyer as a base and then just adding an Andrea Mowry fade.

I just flew by the seat of my pants with the grey yarn and JUST managed to eek out the perfect fade sequence in the first mitt right as I ran out of grey yarn. This one is done except for the afterthought thumb. Now I need to cross my fingers and start the second mitt to see if I can recreate this yarn usage and size…fingers crossed!?

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Gradient Mitts

I had some surprise kid free time this week and I managed to finish the Gradient Mitts!

Pattern: Gradient Mitts by Krista McCurdy

Yarn: Prime Fingering from One Twisted Tree. I used the beachy mini skein set and then some miscellaneous black yarn to finish

Needles: US 3s

I was SUPER excited how these worked up. The yarn held double makes them super warm. They aren’t as long as I normally make fingerless mitts but I kinda like that. My son has already stolen them as play things!

Bonus to this is that I used most of the kit from stash, these counted towards the December minis interception for the Pigskin Party KAL, and I have new warm mitts!

Happy Knitting!!
