Wishes

I see so many posts for those headed to Rhinebeck and I wish I was one of them. I’ve never been to a festival or any other yarn event. And I admit I have fiber envy. Then I look down and see this face and I’m perfectly content to be where I am right now….

More Cherry Jam

Summer in Kansas is in full swing! During a recent trip to my parents house I noticed the cherry trees were ripe and ready to go. Two and a half hours later and five large ice cream buckets later, this pregnant lady was hot and tired. And, I might note, the three trees were only half picked!

As reward for my sweaty work I went home with two buckets of pitted and washed fruit. My most favorite jam of all time is cherry. So after a quick trip to the grocery store for sugar and pectin. I transformed all that fruit into jar after jar of delicious jam. Three hours and some swollen ankles I have this…

Internet Wisdom

I work in a professional office with some awesome people. But some days the ridiculous questions I get just make me want to boop people on the forehead like the V-8 commercial. And this past week I found this gem on the internet somewhere:20140524-140942-50982719.jpg

No clue who to give photo credit to but it’s definitely not me, lol. This image was just too awesome not to share!

I’ve officially become enamored with a new-to-me knitting tool: Knitter’s Pride Karbonz needles. These needles are made from carbon fiber and have slick nickel-plated brass tips.

IMG_6235 Oooooh, shiny.

As you may have noticed over the last few months, I’ve been slowly transitioning from the colorful Knit Picks Harmony needles I’ve used almost exclusively for the last few years to sleek, black KP Karbonz needles. It began when I realized I was mending far too many holes in my socks and needed to tighten my gauge. However, I wanted to knit with size 0 (2.0 mm) DPNs that didn’t feel like bendable, careful-or-they’ll-snap-in-half toothpicks. So I ordered some Karbonz DPNs and loved them.

And I thought — maybe the Harmony’s are NOT the be-all-end-all of knitting needles. I first learned to knit on Susan Bates metal needles but have been fiercely anti-metal since…

CMA Part 1: Done!!

At the end of February I sat for Part 1 of the Certified Management Accountants exam. To say it was intense was an understatement…I was shaking in my tennis shoes. Not to mention that I was in the middle of some miserable medical symptoms. But once you schedule your test…you can’t back out!

I studied 10-15 hours a week for 9 weeks to prepare.(This was a huge reason for loss of my knitting mojo. My brain couldn’t handle thinking about both at the same time). By the end my test prep scores were in the high 60s and low 70s. You need a 75% to pass. The test is a little under 5 hours from start to finish. But I finished all the multiple choice and 7 out of 8 essay sections. I personally felt that the test prep software was harder than the actual test. So I’m hopeful I passed. Now I have to wait until the middle of April to find out if I passed our not….ITS KILLING ME!

I really need to start studying for Part II, providing I passed Part I, so I can sit for the next test at the end of May. I’m not sure I’m ready to dive back in but no turning back now. This experience has really pushed my professional and education boundaries. Wish me luck!

9 Ways to Catch Blog Readers’ Attention

This post made my morning…well worth the read!

Limescented's avatarLime Scented

1. Start with a dramatic title which is only tangentially related to the post.

2. Explain that you haven’t been able to blog, not because you’re not knitting, but because you have no way of taking pictures in cold, grey weather while staying as a guest at someone else’s place, and a blog post without pictures is deemed an abomination.

3. Promise that knitting has been happening, prove it by pointing readers towards the Ravelry project pages which have been updated.

4. Tantalize readers with promises of a new and inspired creation, a self-designed pattern which is just perfect.

5. Talk rapturously about its colours, coming up with ever-so-many synonyms for red: scarlet, brick, burnt, deep, blood and boticelli.

6. Share a secret-sisterhood-smirk with readers who use Malabrigo yarn and therefore know precisely what you mean by the last synonym.

7. Throw in a yarn photo for those who don’t.
