FO Friday: Maple Vanilla Socks

Yay for finished socks!!! My Maple Vanilla socks are done….

Pattern: an iteration of my 74 stitch toe-up vanilla sock

Yarn: Knit Picks Felici in Maple Leaves

Needles: US 1 (8 in circular)

Definitely two fraternal socks but adorable none the less. I like how the ribbing hugs my ankle and keeps the sock from slouching. I will have to see how they wear but for now they are going into the sock drawer. It’s 90+ degrees of humid heat here in Kansas, lol. Not much call for wool socks!

Happy Knitting!

More Heels Please!

More afterthought heels please!

I’ve put the afterthought heel into my first Vanilla Maple. I was chuffed to get the heel inserted exactly between two stripes. The colors didn’t fall in order but doesn’t bother me one bit. It’s beautiful and I adore the tiny orange bit (I think it looks like a smile peeking out)!

These socks are just so pretty and deliciously addicting!

Happy Knitting!!

Vanilla Maple For The Win

After a lot of thinking and possibly flipping a coin the winner is…….vanilla maple socks!

I’ve knit and inserted scrap yarn for my afterthought heel. I also decided to do a 2×2 rib for the leg. This sock is on US 0s with 74 stitches total (I normally work 68/70 stitches on US 1s). I was trying to get my normal sock gauge with this Felici that feels a bit finer than other color ways I’ve worked with. So I hedged my bets and went with a ribbed leg that would be more forgiving and hug my leg without falling down.

I’m totally loving these stripes! They are kind of addicting….

Happy knitting!

Maple Vanilla or Vanilla Maple

I can’t decide…

After my Geeky FO last week I’ve decided to cast on some straight vanilla socks. I pulled the maple leaves Felici out of the stash (that you all so graciously voted for) and got to work. I can’t however decide what to call them. They are just full of mapley goodness.

I am wanting a denser sock so I’ve gone down to US 0s and a total of 76 stitches. My gauge should put this in the right fit. Time will tell! Worst case scenario…I rip back and try again.

Chloe is helping with this one 😀! Now what to call them…..vanilla maples or maple vanillas???

Happy Knitting!

FO Friday: Geek Socks

Here they are in all their geeky glory!

Pattern: Geek Socks by Wei S. Leong

Yarn: Knit Picks Felici in Lighthouse

Needles: US 1 8 inch circular

Size: 72 stitches

My Geek socks were 50% done last we chatted. I put my try hard pants on and packed this project for a recent road trip. With three solid days of knitting in between chasing Jellybean I finished sock #2.

My geeks are fraternal rather than identical and I love them! I didn’t follow the pattern exactly. The patternwas written cuff down and I modified it for toe up with an afterthought heel. I just used the pattern chart and adapted it to fit my basic vanilla type sock construction.

I highly recommend this pattern. Just make sure to mind your floats! I had to relax and let the yarn relax on my floats so as not to knit a tiny tight tube, lol.

Now I need to cast on more socks! Happy Knitting!!

50% Geek

One geek sock is in the books!  I literally used all but half a yard of yarn! I knit the afterthought heel from the outside of the ball as I went just to be sure. And then knit the leg until I reached the end of the skein.

The fit is pretty good. The leg might even be a little tight. But I think this will help them stay up. Now to crack open my second ball of yarn and start sock #2! I predict a sweetly addicting second sock 😃

Happy Knitting!

A Geeky Projection

I’ve overcome my chart reading errors and cruising right along on my Geek Socks

I knit the foot, inserted afterthought lifeline, knit the leg, and finally knit the afterthought heel! These colors and pattern are seriously addictive. I keep knitting “just one more stripe” and losing some sleep in the process, lol.

I need to finish the leg and knit a cuff. Now just to see how it fits…This sock is a 72 stitch sock when I normally like 68 stitches. But I think the extra stitches really help me have a little forgiveness with my floats. This really is my first time with floats, sssshhh don’t tell anyone!

Happy Knitting!

Apparently I Can’t Follow Charts

The winner from last week’s geek sock yarn-off is……Lighthouse! Mostly because I let my 7 month old pick and that’s what he chose to slobber on! Though maple leaves was the clear winner in the comment section. It shall be next I promise!

So onto the needles Lighthouse went. And there I went wrong. This pattern uses a chart (very simple and very small) that my sleep deprived mommy brain couldn’t handle. Want proof?   Instead of pleasing ripples I have drunken lighting bolts. So I frogged back to the stockinette toe. And I began again with what I thought was correct. Wrong again…   I don’t even know what in tarnation I created here. But it too went to the frog pond. Third times a charm right?

That’s to bee determined while I have a glass of wine or maybe just a nap? I just can’t handle charts I guess!

Happy knitting!

What’s On My Needles #8

I’m in a bit of a sock craze of late. It’s all I’ve been blogging about. I’d apologize but I’m not really that sorry. Socks are a great fit for both my mood and available knitting time. I recently finished my Rainbow socks and the first of my Husband Socks. So what’s next?

Well I’m itching to start a pattern I saw in Knitty and on one of the blogs here on WordPress….Geek Socks by Wei Leong.

Now I just need to pick the yarn. My contenders are:

Knit Picks Felici in Lighthouse

Or

  Knit Picks Felici in Cheer

Or

Knit Picks Felici in maple leaves

What would you pick?
