Spinning Lamb For The First Time

I have A TON of some lamb, alpaca and silk farm raised fiber in my stash. This was donated fiber that came with my hitchhiker wheel. It is not a very soft fiber to work. It is spinning very thinly but I feel like there are maybe some guard like hairs worked into this blend? This my first time spinning this fiber so it’s all an adventure for me.

This is the project I chose after my targhee singles were done but I am not sure how I feel about it. The singles have quite the halo as I work it up. And its not super joyfull to spin. I have to pull quite hard to draft the fiber thinly.

I am going to keep working on this to see if it gets better/easier. But this may be a no go for me. Life it too busy to work on project that aren’t fun. Happy Spinning!!

Targhee Singles

My prediction for these targhee singles was CORRECT, I couldn’t put them down. I have two finished bobbins with 2 ounces of singles each.

This was a delight to spin and was easy to control as I was making singles. I will 1000% spin this fiber again. Now I just need to be patient and let these singles rest before plying. That and decide what to spin next!

Happy Spinning!!

Let’s Spin Some Targhee

My spinning mojo continues unabated! After finishing a bunch of smaller 4 ounce bats, I decided to try spinning from a braid again. I pulled some Targhee top from Fiber Love Diary from my stash to spin. I even took my wheel outside to take advantage of the cooler spring temperatures.

I undid the braid and split in half by length so I could spin on to two bobbins again for plying. This fiber is soft to the hand but not slippery. I don’t think this spinning will take very long I can feel the sirens call of this project.

Happy Spinning!!

Outdoor Time

After finishing my unknown 3-ply, I felt the urge to pull out my wheel again. It’s been a hot minute since I felt the urge to spin. So I took PB outside to swing and I sat on the patio with my wheel to spin a little.

I have roughly 200 grams of 100% romney wool in this lovely natural chocolate color. It is spinning really well and smoothly. It took me a minute to get back in a rhythm and make semi consistent singles.

PB played and told stories and I filled 3/4 of a bobbin! I think I have enough fiber to fill two bobbins and make a two ply? Who knows, I will go where the spinning leads me. It is freeing not to have a specific plan or destination. Just make something pretty!

Happy Spinning!!

Warm Spinning

After finishing my Mirror, Mirror spin, I put some mystery wool on my wheel. I have 6.6 ounces of mystery brown wool of unknown origin. I am not a great wool investigator but I know its not merino at all. It’s a bit of chocolate brown for a Valentines treat!

February has been pretty cold so I have been taking advantage of the fire to spin where its warm. I also have been wearing more of my wool socks. And I’m just spinning and letting the fiber become what it wants to be. I am not spinning with any sort of goal in mind.

Stay warm friends and happy spinning!!

All Kinds Of New Tension

I got kinda sorta obsessed with the singles from my Mirror, Mirror colorway I started earlier this week. I blinked and two full bobbins came off my wheel.

Based on how full I managed to get both bobbins, I have high hopes that this will end up fairly even and without a ton of leftover. But now I am super excited to try out the Lazy Kate my parents got me for Christmas!

It is all put together and I have adjusted all the bits and bobs. I just need to find some kiddo free time to sit and ply these singles together. I am by no means and expert, but I think I am going to MUCH prefer this to the cardboard boxes and knitting needle setup I had before.

I’ll keep you posted!

Spinning Sparkly Fluff

For Christmas my kids picked out some fiber for me. No surprise that it was super sparkly pink/purple and very princess-ish. It some Rosie’s Magical Merino top in the Mirror, Mirror colowary.

I have a full 250 grams of this fiber so I have quite a bit. I used a scale and split this fiber into 125 lots. I am just now starting on the first half. My pants and floor end up VERY sparkly after spinning on this project, lo.

My kids can’t wait to see how this turns out. Happy Spinning!!

Another Alpaca And Merino Blend

My wheel was cold without spinning on it. So here I go starting yet another bag of roving from my donated fiber stash.

This fiber actually had some information in it. This i3 ounces of merino/alpaca from Midwest Fiber Farm. Definitely a natural fiber with no dye. It is a nice blend of light and dark grey fibers. It is marling inside the singles.

I think this one will REALLY come out pretty when I ply it. Like a broken record, I plan to spin all the singles and make a 2-ply….again, lol.

Happy Spinning!!

Spinning Mystery Fiber

After emptying my wheel this week I decided to start my next set of singles. I am still working through the inherited fiber I received when I decided to start spinning. This is some mystery alpaca fiber that appears to contain white tweed blips.

This fiber is spinning pretty quickly and fairly consistently. I can tell my muscle memory is getting better as I am better able to look up from my hands for short periods now. Which really helps me pay better attention to my TV shows, lol.

I only have 4 ounces of this fiber so I see this project going very quickly. I think I will play to 2-ply this yarn back on itself again. I really like the yarn I am getting from this method. And I might be amazing enough 2-ply alpaca skeins that I could make larger project!

Happy Spinning!!

Spinning Some Alpaca Blend

My wheel was empty after finishing my last two skeins of yarn/plying. So I grabbed some fiber from my stash and got started on some new singles.

Most of my spinning is coming from the hand me down fiber I got from my mother’s friend. He bought a ton of fiber at festivals and farm stands. This was some alpaca and merino blend in the natural colors (I think). I don’t have a ton of information because I didn’t buy it.

So far its spinning really well and fairly thin. My skills are improving and my lumps/bumps are getting smaller and fewer. It really is intoxicating to see how fast this can go!

Happy Spinning!!
