Finished: 2025 Dumpster Fire Ornaments

My back is killing me and I gave up on any semblance of duplicate stitching but my 2025 Dumpster Fire ornaments are DONE!

Yarn: Wonderland Yarn and Frabjous Fibers Mad Hatter Kit in the Dumpster Fire 2020 kit

Needles: US5s

Mods: Did not attempt duplicate stitching

These two things were easy and fast to knit but boy howdy did the finishing test my post holiday brain fog. Both ornaments combined used just about 33 grams of yarn which is 113 yards of yarn. I think I have enough green left that I could do one more dumpster and enough flamer colors for a lot more flames that that.

The finishing just about killed me so I am not sure I am super excited to start another one. But it would be nice to finish out this kit……I need to work on my decisions. In the meantime these are for two coworkers to wrap up a weird 2025 and kick off 2026. I hope they like them!

Santa Yarn

Santa was very kind to me. Mostly because this Knitter planned her own surprise. When I was at SSK 2025, I bought a package of Mystery DK yarn form Supernova yarn at the vendor market. These are the spoils.

This was packed so I just cut one end open and then dropped into my stocking without looking. So it was a real surprise for the morning. I ended up with one skein of her Atria DK (singles) that is on the far left in the Pondering Orb colorway. The other two are her Nashira DK (plied) in a redacted color and her Plowed colorway.

These will likely end up in my hat collection as they they are different types of yarn and really different colors. Which is not all bad, I like making hats or these could be a pop of color in a sweater?

All The Peices

I have persevered this week and forced myself to concentrate on my Dumpster Fire pieces.

I was too lazy to find pins or a blocking mat. So these got a good soak and I just spread them out on an old towel. I need to pull out the pattern to remember if I seam these all together first….or do the duplicate stitch first.

I think I am only a couple hours away from these being done. And it’s barely any yarn used. Should I make a third for myself so we can have a trio to match?

Cast On: Dumpster Fire 2025

I am making a few New Years gifts from some colleagues at work. It’s been one heck of a finish to 2025 and I thought Dumpster Fires would be very appropriate.

I need to crank out two ornaments. The pieces knit up super quick and its the seaming that I am dreading. And to be honest, the duplicate stitch of the year at the end. I never really have mastered that part….

Finishing Up Advent Fiber

I have opened every single day in my 2024 Knits and Pearls fiber advent calendar!

These last few days included some neon, speckles and definitely stellina. I am worried that day 22 is a little compacted and felted. I will have to see how it spins. The final braid came with an ornament and has a RAINBOW of colors. It does a really great job of incorporating a lot of the colors from the other 24 days.

I am stating my intention to finish this spin in February 2025. I need my wheel to be able to start spinning some of stash down. I pulled some of the fiber I purchased at SSK 2024 to start working on because I AM GOING AGAIN IN 2025 and I am very excited.

Catching Up Advent Fiber

I completely flamed out on my 2024 advent spinning. But I did finally open up the rest of the days to see all the pretties!

There were a lot of purples and greens in this run. And one mini had a teeny Christmas light stitch marker. I don’t trust my memory so I put these back in the numbered bags for when I finally get around to spinning. I think finishing this spin will be one of my February craft goals?

Tomorrow I will wrap up this calendar and show the full braid that came for day 25! Happy Spinning!!

Christmas Haul

Santa was very kind to this knitter. As the resident Santa in my home I did some knitterly things for myself.

I ordered some fiber and sock yarn from the Woolery during a holiday sale. I picked these out specifically but when the box came, I had forgot what I ordered so I left it in the box for my stocking. I also ordered a mystery box from KnitCircus to surprise myself and when it came I left the box closed.

On Christmas Eve, I opened the box and closed my eyes. Then carefully pulled the items out and put into my sock without peeking. I really really like surprises and this was about the best way I could manage it. I came away with the following

  • 250g of Bluefaced Leicester in Gray
  • 250g of Corriedale in Natural Stripes (brown/white)
  • Uneek Sock Set in Zebra
  • KnitCircus Greatest of Ease in a OOAK Prototype (pink)
  • KnitCircus Opulence in Prototype (Orange)
  • KnitCircus Spectacular in Clear Skies Ahead (Blue singles yarn)

Absolutely no plans for any of these items other than they brought me joy on Christmas morning. Does anyone else ever go to these lengths to surprise themselves?
