WIP Wednesday: Ocean Geek Socks

I know, I know….more socks! But after all it is Socktober….

I cast on another pair of Geeks. This year I decided to join #dcspogskinparty2015 with BostonJen of the Down Cellar Studio. I’m not sure I’m going to score many points given my limited knitting time but I’m having fun just being part of the lively group. I highly recommend the podcast and the Rav group.

I loved my last pair of Geeks. So I kept it rolling with another pair in Knit Picks Felici in Splash. The colors remind of the ocean and cool water. This pattern is free and absolutely fabulous! These are currently living in my desk for lunch time and conference call knitting.

I just need to finish them before January, wish me luck!

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Confernce Vanilla Socks

My Conference Vanilla socks are finito!

Pattern: 74 stitch vanilla sock

Needle: US 0s

Yarn: Saki Bamboo in Crayon Box

I made these a bit taller than normal given the put up in the skein was generous. And these have the most negative ease I’ve ever put in a sock. They are quite snug and hopefully will stay up. I knit over 74 stitches but probably could have used 76 or 78. The afterthought heels are also a bit snug. Probably could have used a 60% heel versus my standard 50%. The cast off on one sock is pretty tight. It’s fine for now but may need redone, time will tell. Sigh, all silly little oops.

I adore the colors and the fabric this created. I’m anxious to see how the bamboo content holds out. But this blend was heavenly to knit with. I’m a little disappointed that little missteps added up and the socks aren’t “perfect” but I keep telling myself perfect isn’t everything. It’s all about character!

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Picasso Marble Socks

Tah dah! My Picasso Marble Socks are done!

Last we spoke about these socks they were half done. I managed to blow through the second sock during my CPE this month.

Pattern: My own 68 st vanilla sock

Yarn: Premier Yarns Serenity Sock in Picasso Marble color way

Needles: US 1

I still had roughly 1/4 of each 50 gram call left. I honestly just got tired knitting the first sock leg and quit knitting at a 6-7 inch leg. I could have gone longer. But other than that I’m happy with them. Another pair for the sock drawer!

Happy Knitting!

WIP Wednesday: Conference Vanilla Socks

I had 32 hours of CPE in the past two weeks at work. For those that don’t know that’s continuing professional education and mine was in governmental finace and financials. Sounds exhilarating right? That’s roughly four days of all day lecture on less than sizzling topics. Needless to say I packed my knitting! I have one FO to share Friday that I managed to finish but I also made good progress on another WIP…

These are my conference vanilla socks in Saki Bamboo. This yarn is heavenly! And the stripes make my heart sing. The first sock is done sans the afterthought heel. The second sock represents my progress over 2.5 days of lecture. I finished the foot and roughly half of the leg. Not too shabby if I do say so myself.

Oh how I wish I had discovered knitted socks in college! Oh the pile of knits I could have completed during boring lectures…. With jellybean my knitting time is limited so I definitely relished this time to knit peacefully.

Happy Knitting!

Stripes Of Fun

I’m addicted!

This yarn is dreamy and wonderful! My conference vanilla socks are growing. I did not know what to expect with this yarn as the colors appear to be random. It’s such potato chip knitting as I can’t wait to keep knitting to find out the next color!

For those with inquiring minds this is Wisdom Yarn’s Saki Bamboo in crayon box. I’m two inches past the heel and considering starting the ribbing early to negate the “slouch” factor of the bamboo with the pulling in that ribbing gives you. But I just can’t decide. These are the conundrums you have when making up the knitting as you go, lol!

Happy Knitting!

Halfway FO Friday: Marble Picasso Socks

One complete sock with heel for this week!

I started this sock a couple of weeks ago during my Marathon Work Training Week. Boy was it nice to have knitting to keep me awake!

The yarn is creating a nice fabric.  It’s Premier Yarn Serinity Sock from Deborah Norville in Picasso Marble. It was on clearance at Joanns awhile back for $2 a skein. It’s 50% merino, 25% bamboo, and 25% nylon in what I say is a light fingering. It feels soft knitted up but I’m hoping the nylon makes it hard wearing. Now I’ve just gotta get going on sock #2!

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Leftover Blackberry Truffle Socks

My Leftover Blackberry Truffle socks are done!!!

These are 68 stitch toe up vanilla sock with a slip stitch heel. I used sock yarn in blackberry truffle leftover from my Jacoby Mitts. I only had 60 grams so I split it into two 30 gram ankle socks.

I had a little issue with the ankle ribbing being too big on the first sock. It gapped horribly. So I decreased down to 60 stitches from 68 after the heel on the second sock and it worked beautifully. But that meant I had to rip back and redo sock #1, grumble grumble.

But grumbling aside I have another FO and shortie socks ready for winter! And I can’t stop looking at the gorgeous pops of color. This yarn is a favorite!!

Happy Knitting!!

What’s On My Needles #12

My Picasso Marble sock is almost done!

This sock was my conference/training knitting last week. I managed to knit everything but the heel all while working. It was awesome and helped me stay awake, lol. Now I’m putting in the afterthought heel, then it’s on to sock #2! My notes are raveled here.

Happy Knitting!!

More Vanilla Socks

I posted about my Leftover Blackberry socks yesterday. I did manage to complete the first sock and boy it is a shortie! It’s an ankle sock for sure. But it’s got an issue for another blog post. And the second sock is ready for the gusset. Not very conducive to easy knitting without looking or counting. So I dug out new needles and new yarn to start ANOTHER pair of vanillas.

The yarn is some Premier Deborah Norville Serenity sock weight in the Picasso marble color way. It’s 50% merino, 25% rayon bamboo, and 25% nylon so I’m hoping for a hard wearing sock. I’m undecided about the bamboo content. I got this yarn for $1 a skein at Joanns on a whim so no harm done if I don’t like it.

This pair is going to be a toe up vanilla with afterthought heel since I have two full skeins. Above is my progress just this morning. Being able to knit makes me both love and hate training, lol.

Happy Knitting!

WIP Wednesday: Leftover Blackberry Socks

After two days of all day training I have made some progress on my Leftover Blackberry sock. I’ve turned the heel and started the leg!

I know, I was going to work on my Training Socks but they were just too bulky to tuck into my special yarn pocket. What, you’ve never seen a special yarn pocket?

Okay maybe it wasn’t designed for knitting but it’s a small discreet way to hold my yarn and sock without being obvious. And believe me knitting was necessary to stay awake during hours and hours of lecture style “class”.

And we are back at it today….yay?! Maybe I can have finished socks by the weekend?

Happy Knitting!
