Party Cake Vanilla Sock Update

I realized over Cheerios with Jellybean this morning that I haven’t blogged in several days. Or more correctly….I hadn’t scheduled any posts as most of my content comes courtesy of the WordPress scheduler 😊. Nothing crazy going on, just the flow of life. I have been knitting though, so I thought I would drop a quick update on my travel/purse project!

I’ve been carting around my Party Cake Peep Vanilla socks in my purse. They received a lot of love due to a couple of trips to my parents house. The speckles are dangerously addictive and I completed the first sock already!

The fit is pretty good. The yarn is soft and smooshy. The finished fabric feels thin but not overly so. I’ll just have to see how it wears. This project has been perfect zen knitting for my frazzled brain of late.

What’s your zen knitting?

Another (Almost) Finished Baby Sweater

My second Baby Sophisticate is done! Ok, well the knitting is done anyway…

This is the Baby Sophisticate by Linden Down. I knit it using Bernat Satin Solids in royal blue. It’s got quite a bit of shine to it but the blue is just so rich it’s going to look gorgeous on the blue eyed babe it’s destined for.

I worked this pattern back to back and I have to admit this second one was quite a slog. Even for a tiny baby sweater. But alas I persevered! I even managed to dig through my mom’s button and ribbon stash to find grosgrain ribbon and buttons for both this and the first baby sophisticate. I’m hoping to have some time this weekend to work on the finishing.

Happy Knitting!

The Power of Knitters

I am in need some help.  A dear friend has a beautiful boy who will have a bone anchored hearing device implanted by this fall. He’s an active farm kid that doesn’t let anything slow him down. But as a momma she wants to keep him warm and snuggly as he’s tending cows with dad. She sent me this website and asked if I could help knit a hat for them.

It’s an adult pattern with rough directions from a medical website. I could make it work but I feel like this kid who has overcame so much already deserves better! I’m calling on the collective good hearts of knitters to help me find a better/more fun pattern. I spent a long time rolling around Ravelry but didn’t locate any patterns. Perhaps I’m just not entering the right search terms? So have any of you out there come across a pattern for a knit hat that accommodates a hearing device?

FO Friday: Mini Thermal Vest

I felt inspired by the Down Cellar Studio Pigskin Party 2015 and the WIP interception for November/December and I really got my butt in gear on Jellybean’s Mini Thermal Vest. And now it’s done!

Pattern: Mini Thermal Vest by Clair Russell

Size: Large (12-24 mo)

Needles: US 9

Yarn: Knit Picks Shine Worsted in black

I caught a sinus infection and was home from work on Monday and just flew through the rest of this project. I used a little over three skeins of yarn or 230.3 yards (153 grams) of yarn. So I earned  17 points for yardage and 25 points for the WIP interception contest for a whopping 42 points total! I’m not growing to win on total points but it’s nice to see them stack up.

I haven’t tried this on Jellybean yet but it’s washed and blocked. I think this may get wrapped up for under the Christmas tree!

Happy Knitting!

Knitters In The Wild

I came down with a nasty sinus infection the Tuesday before turkey day. And knowing I would be stuck with a cranky baby who hates sleeping while traveling….I went to the express care clinic. After an hour I snagged some meds and care instructions, but I also found another knitter in the wild!

A lovely older women was smiling at me from across the waiting area so I smiled back. She called me out on my knitting and not only correctly identified it as knitting but that it was also a sock. Brilliant!

I didn’t get a chance to chat after that as I was called back to my appointment. I wonder if she had knitting in her purse?

An Urgent Request

This not a knitting post but a personal one. More of a plea really. A friend is in trouble and needs help. This is my only avenue to reach any many people as possible! And I just feel helpless so I have to do something.

This is Greg Garcia and he’s been missing since Feb 15th from the Kansas City Mo area. His family is desperately seeking him as his health is poor.

This man is a talented actor, genius photographer, and sweet soul. I know most of my readers aren’t in the Kansas area but just in case you are, please keep a look out!

Please message me if you have any info. The family has filed missing persons reports and hired a private investigator. So many people are missing this guy I just wanted to do my part.

And now back to knitting posts…

2014 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog. I’ve never posted this before but I enjoyed reading others..so here goes nothing!

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 11,000 times in 2014. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Input Needed

My husband has FINALLY asked for a hand knit!! Insert squeal of glee here….

He has asked for a pair of hand knit socks! Never mind his size 12 man feet. I like kooky colors and sparkles and I don’t mind a bit of scratch just as long as they are warm. Now the husband on the other hand doesn’t do scratchy. So here lies my conundrum, what yarn to knit with? I have nothing in my stash that is appropriate.

So I’m asking the blogosphere for input. I need a sock yarn that is sturdy yet soft and that comes in man approved colors. What do you guys use??

Ps. I’m also on a budget so I need a yarn that won’t break the bank…

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy thanksgiving to all!!

I’m lounging in comfy sweatpants and hand knit sweater. Jellybean is snoozing in my lap. And the hubby has steak marinating for dinner. It’s just going to be a cozy thanksgiving of just the three of us.

I’m happy and grateful. May your day be just as sweet!
