Almost Complete Mitts

My Kindness Mitts are working up in a flash! I have both mitts knit and just waiting for thumbs!

I worked these up on size 5 US short circular needle. They might be a bit baggy on my hands and I could have probably used to reduce my stitch count by about four. But they aren’t fall off loose and should be perfect driving mitts! Now I just need to dig through my messy craft room and find some size 56 dpns!

Happy knitting!!

Kindness Unblocked

I WON AT YARN CHICKEN! And here she is….my finished Kindness KAL 2019 shawl in all her unblocked glory!

I squeaked by with just the tiniest bit of blue yarn left without having to break into the second skein. I did have a more substantial ball of the Salty Tales grey color left. I’m using Hedgehog Fibers Merino DK by the way. The blue color is Ink. I even managed to weave in but not trim my ends from all the color changes.

As you read this my shawl has already been soaked and is drying on the blocking mats. Jellybean helped me and we broke out my blocking wires and really gave this shawl a good stretching. In doing this we found ONE dropped stitch. I calmly grabbed my double ended crochet hook and laddered it back up and then secured it with a piece of waste yarn on the wrong side of the work. No one but me will be the wiser!

Humidity has come to Kansas for summer and so I’m not sure how long this puppy will take to dry. Jellybean keeps checking at least every hour to see if it’s done. I think maybe I’ll set a fan on it to speed up the process for both our sakes!

Potato Chip Knitting At Its Finest

I literally can’t put my mothers day cast on down! Between the luxurious Hedgehog Fibers yarn and the comforting garter stitch, I’ve already made it to section three!!

The speckles in the grey contrast color have me stopping quite frequently to pet and admire the stitches. The pattern is the Kindness KAL 2019 shawl from Jaala Spiro. It’s a free pattern and absolutely wonderful.

I used the needles recommended in the pattern (US 7) and I am finding that gauge is not tight but not very drapey. I probably could have stood to have gone up a needle size. But it’s a shawl and who cares. It will just mean its extra warm for winter!

Happy Knitting!!

Mother’s Day Cast On

The hubby gave me the best Mother’s Day present ever….three hours home alone by myself! I took a luxurious shower and cast on my Mother’s Day Cast On….The Kindness KAL 2019 shawl by Jamal’s Spiro.

I amazed myself and got through two sections while laughing myself silly to Knitting Vicariously podcast. It was HEAVEN!

Did anyone else cast on something special and selfish for Mother’s Day?

Prepping My Mother’s Day Cast On

For the past couple of years I have joined the Prairie Girls Knit and Spin Podcast bandwagon and set aside time for myself to cast on a selfish project for myself on Mothers Day. In the past I have made the Old Man of Storr in 2016Nangou in 2017, and Antarktis in 2018.

This year I have always known what yarn I wanted to cast on for my Mothers Day project but I have been waffling on the pattern. I know I want to use my Hedgehog Fibers Merino DK yarn in Ink and Salty Tales. But I have been wishful knitting this yarn and nothing sang to me. But now I know what I want to do!

I’m going to knit the Kindness KAL 2019 shawl pattern by Jaala Spiro of KnitCircus yarns. I have more yarn than I need but I’m just going to either extend the pattern or knit the leftovers into a matching accessory.

Is it Mothers Day yet?? In the meantime Jellybean and I need to get to caking up my yarns…..Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Faded Fingerless Mitts

My Faded Fingerless Gloves are finished! They practically flew off the needles!

Pattern: Fingerless Gloves by Cheryl Goyer

Needles: US 5s

Yarn: One Twisted Lavish DK in Chaotic Nuetral and Anzula Ava in Raspberry

Mods: added a fading sequence from Andrea Mowry’s Free Your fade Shawl

I didn’t get my yarn measured exactly in half. So in the second glove I did not have enough grey to make the full cuff and complete the full fade sequence. I knew I was in yarn chicken territory so I altered it on the fly. They definitely don’t match but I honestly don’t care. I used 90 yards of the Lavish (grey) and 73 yards of the Anzula (pink). This used up every last inch of the grey and left a small ball of the pink to put in my memory blanket.

I didn’t manage to snag a photo of the gloves with the coordinating shawl. Perhaps when Spring gets into full swing around here I can get some decent outdoor photos? This project just made me super happy to both have a matching peice and to use up some golden skeins of yarn to the very last bit!

Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: Faded Fingerless Mitts

I may have fade on the brain lately. I finished my Free Your Fade last week and I was over the moon. But I still had a decent chunk of the grey and raspberry left and I decided to make a matching accessory to go with the shawl.

I cast on some DK weight fingerless mitts. Our house has had too many germs for relying on my brain to make a pattern so I found a great free pattern on Ravelry. I’m using Fingerless Mitts by Cheryl Goyer as a base and then just adding an Andrea Mowry fade.

I just flew by the seat of my pants with the grey yarn and JUST managed to eek out the perfect fade sequence in the first mitt right as I ran out of grey yarn. This one is done except for the afterthought thumb. Now I need to cross my fingers and start the second mitt to see if I can recreate this yarn usage and size…fingers crossed!?

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Free Your Fade

I made it you guys! My Free Your Fade is done and I’M IN LOVE!! I just wish it was still cold enough to wear it this week.

Pattern: Free Your Fade by Andrea Mowry

Yarn: Anzula Ava in Raspberry, Leon Alexander Yarns Duke DK in Oh La La and One Twisted Tree Lavish in Chaotic Nuetral.

Needles: US 7

Mods: Omitted the picot bind of in favor of a suspended bind off instead.

This thing is sooooo squishy and lovely. The DK (and sport) yarn just give this a nice heft that I haven’t felt with my fingering weight shawls. It is also MASSIVE. I used approximately 260 grams of yarn or 673 yards of yarn. And I used the middle variagated skein down to the last little nub!

My fade isn’t super duper subtle as it would be with a more graduated set of colors. But I love it and pretty proud of myself for my first fade! I do wish my larger yarn overs were a little neater. But I was too far in when I noticed and I decided that consistent yarn overs made my brain happier than neat ones would.

Oh my gosh…I need to wear this soon! Happy Knitting!!

Fading To The Finish

The winter germs are hanging on REAL hard this spring. And Jellybean, PB and I have all been sick this week. Between soothing kids and trying to sleep I have done like almost ZERO knitting. You know I’m sick when I can’t knit.

But I’m sooooo close to finishing my fade!

I have one eyelet row and one garter section to finish before the bind off. The pattern calls for a picot bind off. Truth time, I sorta don’t love the look of picots. So I’m considering using a suspended bind off instead. But for the immediate time…I’m going to drag my butt to work and cross my fingers for an early bedtime for all humans in this house tonight!

Happy Knitting!!

Fading My Heart Out

You guys…my fade is has become my knitting obsession! I busted my hiney to be able to get into the second color and I LOVE it! I am also just now noticing that it kinda blends into my carpet, whoops!!

I’m working the DK version of Andrea Mowry’s Free Your Fade. This knitter loves how fast DK yarn works up. Though I am slowly a little bit as these rows get longer and longer.

This pink variegated DK yarn from Leon Alexander Yarns is a bit more plump than the One Twisted Tree DK. But this is a shawl and who worries about gauge?? It’s going to wonderfully squishy and warm for next winter!

Happy Knitting!!
