Finished: In The Light Blues

The In The Lights Blues is DONE!

Pattern: In The Light by Casey Day-Crossier (Rav Link)

Needles: US 7s

Yarn: Random single skeins of sock yarn, see my Ravelry page.

Mods: I didn’t follow the fade pattern and this ended up using five colors instead of three

This finished shawl weighs approximately 220 grams of yarn or roughly 972 yards of yarn. This would have been a great stash buster if I had mathed differently the the beginning. Hence my In the Light Blues, Take Two shawl…..

The last color I added ended up being a VERY dark transition. I am not sure how I feel about it but it is what I completed. Still a very wearable shawl but the fade had some lines in several areas. It did, however, block and relax beautifully and I can never be mad at that.

Happy Friday and Happy Knitting!!

In The Lights Blues Take Two – First Transition

I have completed the first color transition of the In The Lights Blues Take Two shawl.

I was able to get almost the full (as written in the pattern) fade done and use up every last bit of the first skein of yarn. This fully used up the Chromatic Yarns Sturdy sock in True Sight and I could move that stash to All Used Up. The best feeling!

I am just now having to adjust this next section with using my middle color. I just just work in pattern until I get to the next number of total stitches before the the third and final fade. I have a ton of this yarn so I am hoping it will be okay, lol.

Happy Knitting!!!

Take Two Progress

I am still working a little on my In The Light Blues Take Two while the In The Light Blues is on the home stretch.

This shawl is reversing the order and going dark to light so I can maximize the use of the leftover yarn. I used less of the light colors in the first version so I have more left. This first one is the Chromatic Yarns Sturdy Sock in True Sight.

I am following the actual pattern verbatim this time. So I don’t have any math to do this time, just counting. And so far so good this time, just rhythmic stitches forming on needles. I think that is a big reason I keep going back to this pattern for shawls. It consumes A TON of one off skeins of sock yarn and it is an easy brain hug pattern.

Adding A Fifth Yarn

I was wrong in my last post for the In The Light Blues shawl. That was not in fact the last fade.

I broke up the pattern to use symmetrical number of rows of each color NOT weight. My Finance background should have told me that math wouldn’t math. So I quickly realized that my last skein was not going to be enough to either the lace or border.

So I went stash diving in my sock yarn and found a fifth and darker yet skein of yarn to finish this shawl. What I found was a Abstract Fiber Super Sock in Twilight. I wound it up and I’ve faded it in and it worked out perfectly to start the lace section.

Now I just need to finish this one off and I can use all the remaining bits for the In The Light Blues Take Two.

Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: In The Light Blues Take 2

I couldn’t help myself, I cast on another In The Light. And because I think I’m witty, I am calling this one In The Light Blues, Take Two so it rhymes.

I am just in the starting stages where it looks like a thong. Is my other shawl still on the needles? Yes. And I wanted to get this on the needles and going while I have the mojo. I do plan to follow the pattern as written for this one.

This is the fringed version again as I like how that looks styled out around the neck. The plain version is faster but this one is fancier. And just in time for it to warm up around here and not be shawl season!

Happy Knitting!!

The Last Fade

The final fade and color has entered the chat! My In The Light Blues is in the home stretch.

I have the final and darkest color faded in. Now the plan is to knit in pattern stitch until I get to the right stitch count before the lace portion. I purposely took this photo so you can see the line from the fade from #2 go #3. It won’t really matter scrunched up on my neck

I do have a TON of yarn left from the first three colors. And I have been loving this pattern for “autopilot” knitting on the go lately. I think I have decided to go ahead and start a second version and reverse the progression. And follow the pattern this time. Who cares how many active WIPs I have!!

Happy Knitting!!

In The Light Blue Progress

Okay, I have returned to knitting in front of the fire and not in the hammock. Mother Nature was not done with winter temps here. And being cozy motivated me to push through color #2 and get into color #3 for my In The Light Blues.

The photo is dark, but the fade from color #1 to color #2 was pretty subtle and almost not noticeable. However, the fade from #2 to #3 is creating a bit of a line. Especially on one side of the work. A little annoying but I am just dealing with it

Honestly, I am loving these colors and yarns so much I am already contemplating making a second shawl with these first three colors. Only this time flipping and starting with the dark AND following the pattern’s three color transition. I just have to finish this third color and find a second set of needles….because why not one more WIP?

Happy Knitting!!

Hammock Shawl

Happy St Patrick’s day! It’s going to be a cold one here in Kansas.

I did manage to bundle up and stubbornly brave the sunshine yesterday to spend 15 minutes in my patio hammock. I am solidly into the second skein/color change of my In The Light Blues shawl. I couldn’t last super long but it is one step closer to spring.

I am modifying this patterns for four transitions instead of three. So I am counting my garter ridges and trying to modify to still end up with the right amount of stitches before I get to the lace section.

Now I’m off to bundle up for the parade. Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: In The Light (Blues)

I finally had some cozy time to set up and start my blue In The Light

I did some math based on total rows, taking out the rows for transition and then backing into how to do a four color version. Basically at my gauge, I need 23 garter bumps for each “section” in between fades.

I want to do the lace at the end so I might stop early with color number four. And it will be okay. Close enough is perfect enough for me. I will definitely have a lot of leftovers on this one!

Happy Knitting!!

Blue Cakes

My next In The Light shawl is taking small steps.

I hand wound each skein into a ball during a long work meeting on my WFH day. And then I sat down with a Sallie Goldenbaum audio book/knitting mystery and use my yarn winder to make cakes. This pattern uses two ends of the yarn so they have to be cakes OR wound into separate balls. I chose the former because I’m altering the patterns and I don’t know how much of each color I will need.

I have the pattern on my computer and have some time planned to cast on. I just need to dig out some needles now! Happy Winding!!
