That Could Have Gone Better

I was brave and I put steeks into the Wee Sweaters for the desk geese. It’s fine but it could have gone better.

I flipped them inside out and used sewing thread to catch stitches on either side of my cut row. I then snipped it open and then whip stitch the edges to make it smoother. It was partially successful. They don’t look clean to my eyes and I’m living with it. The stitches aren’t running so at least it won’t unravel.

Next up is I need to sneak back into one of their offices and try them on the geese. If they fit, great they will be gifted. If they don’t, I think I will reknit and just work them back and forth cardigan style with an open back.

Happy Knitting!!

Coffee and Tiny Sweaters

I needed some dopamine this week. So I made two tiny sweaters for my coworkers who have desk geese. They are miniatures of the ceramic porch geese that some people have for decoration. And both change their outfits to fit the season.

This is the wee sweaters by Sarah Schira (Rav link) and just some leftover yarns from the first two colors of my In The Lights Blues. I cranked these out in like an hour and then snuck into one of their offices to test out.

Unfortunately, the geese have more robust bust areas than these sweater allow. I think I am going to try an steek the backs open a little bit from the hem up. That way it adds some space for the goose body.

This is possibly the weirdest and funniest thing I have done this week. And I love that my colleagues have no idea that this is coming. Happy (surprise) Knitting!!

Finished: 2025 Dumpster Fire Ornaments

My back is killing me and I gave up on any semblance of duplicate stitching but my 2025 Dumpster Fire ornaments are DONE!

Pattern: Dumpster Fire 2020 by KinoKnits (Rav Link)

Yarn: Wonderland Yarn and Frabjous Fibers Mad Hatter Kit in the Dumpster Fire 2020 kit

Needles: US5s

Mods: Did not attempt duplicate stitching

These two things were easy and fast to knit but boy howdy did the finishing test my post holiday brain fog. Both ornaments combined used just about 33 grams of yarn which is 113 yards of yarn. I think I have enough green left that I could do one more dumpster and enough flamer colors for a lot more flames that that.

The finishing just about killed me so I am not sure I am super excited to start another one. But it would be nice to finish out this kit……I need to work on my decisions. In the meantime these are for two coworkers to wrap up a weird 2025 and kick off 2026. I hope they like them!

Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: Dumpster Fire 2025

I am making a few New Years gifts from some colleagues at work. It’s been one heck of a finish to 2025 and I thought Dumpster Fires would be very appropriate.

I need to crank out two ornaments. The pieces knit up super quick and its the seaming that I am dreading. And to be honest, the duplicate stitch of the year at the end. I never really have mastered that part….

Happy Knitting!!

Finished Cute Stuff

Another day of advent inspired wee things are done!

I really enjoy blues and golds together, its ingrained from my childhood, lol. This is day 6 of advent done and I am winding #7 later tonight. I still have a long way to go to 24 total but its better than no progress at all!

Meanwhile I am adding this color to my scarp blanket and really want to finish that square this week. Happy Knitting!!

2021 Advent: Day 5

My fingers are aching a little bit, but day five is complete from my 2021 Chromatic Yarns advent calendar. This color was called Merfolk and I think its a fitting name for this lovely blue.

I’m getting the pattern memorized into my brain. I still have to refer to the patterns for the heel turns but other than that I can cruise right along. I pulled some ribbon from my stash to determine if it was the right medium to hang my items. I think some experimentation is order as I’m not sure I found the right thing.

Now, on to day six! Happy Knitting!!

2021 Advents: Day 4

A lazy day still neglecting to take down all of the Christmas decorations has brought to you a new tiny sweater and two new tiny socks.

This was day four of the 2021 Chromatic Yarns advent calendar. It was a beautiful golden rod color. This D&D inspired color was called Yochlol. I have not a stinking clue what that means as I don’t follow that genre but I can appreciate beauty in all forms.

On to day five! Happy Knitting!!!

What 45 Minutes Makes

We are back to the normal life grind after the holidays. I thought I would share what 45 minutes of gymnastics gets me. I am still working through my 2021 advent calendar minis from Hannah of Chromatic Yarns.

I had the neck of the sweater started when I sat down in the waiting room.

By the time we got home, I had the yolk done and sleeves on waste yarn. I just couldn’t quite the whole body done before I needed to pack up.

I need like three more rows of body, two rows of ribbing and then cast off. The body of the sweater will be complete. Also, you can see the havoc that dry air, hand washing and tiny sharp needles are wreaking on my finger tips. I’m trying to heal up with some intensive repair creams and it’s working okay-ish so far.

Happy Knitting!!

Tiny Wee Things

I managed to create some more cute tiny things. This is a Tiny Tree Sock and a Wee Sweater from Imagined Landscapes.

This is the day two color of my Chromatic Yarns 2021 Advent Calendar. It’s a lovely tonal green color and I barely use any yarn at all to make these. They are a bit fiddly and usually take a full evening plus a little to finish both.

I still have 22 days to go, lol. But I feel a garland coming in my future! Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: Tiny Tree Socks

I decided to start using my Chromatic Yarns 2021 advent calendar. I showed you guys the totally unboxed version yesterday. The first mini up is called Magic Aura (all her yarn is D&D themed) and its on a BFL and nylon base.

Whimsy led me to want to make a ton of cute tiny things with this calendar. And the first of that list of things were tiny socks for ornaments or a garland. I ended up using the Tiny Tree Socks pattern by Summer Lee (Rav Link).

And the finished thing is WEE TINY. Like maybe the size of my thumb? It was super quick to make in just over an hour. I did use DPNs which aren’t my favorite and a little fiddly to start but I got in the groove.

Now I just have 23 more colors/days to do! Happy Knitting!!
