Cast On: Mom’s In The Light

This past summer my mom went a quilt shop hop and ended up finding yarn. She has been wanting a shawl to wear at church or in her basement sewing room when it gets a bit chilly. I admit, I did some pattern research and then lost all track of this during the last 6 months of crazy.

So to get past decision fatigue, I decided to knit something I knew I love and could do. I am knitting another In The Light. I have already made three of these and love them all. I asked my mom if she wanted color blocks or marling. She said “whatever I want” so I picked marling to make color management easier.

She picked a nice forest green and pale variegated yellow in the Barefoot base by Laneras. this yarn is 100% Polworth and should make an execptionally warm shawl. I am a little light on yardage so I might have to tweak the pattern. But that is a problem for later!

Happy Knitting!!

Finished Floofy Polworth

I officially adore Polworth. This fiber was a dream to spin and literally FLEW off my wheel. I finished all four ounces of the fiber in an evening and then managed to rest and ply the singles last night.

I gave the skein a wash and put out to dry near the fire last night. It was sooooo floofy this morning when I checked it. The fiber really plumped up in the bath to make a nice full worsted. I mean I probably lost some yardage to this but its so smooshy that I don’t mind.

This turned out to be just under 160 yards in length and weighs about 113 grams. It was pretty consistent at 9 wraps per inch throughout. I can’t wait to get this labeled up and delivered to my coworker at her March retirement party!

Happy Spinning!!

Spinning Mulch

I found out recently that a dear colleague is retiring. She is fellow crafter and knitter. Her primary hobbies are glass, wood burning and knitting. I decided to make her some handspun as a retirement present.

I have 4 ounces of Polworth from Three Waters Farms. Its CRAZY soft and I’m really keen to see how it feels spun up. Going with my standard let my hands just spin and make a 2 ply.

I have REALLY been enjoying spinning in front of the fire lately. It’s warm, cozy and quiets my brain at the end of the day. I even catch my kiddos watching the wheel instead of the fire some days.

Happy Spinning!!
