How To Survive Accounting Conference Lectures: KNITTING!!

I did really well through the morning sessions but I was dragging after lunch. The economists started talking about statistics and I had to break out the knitting to stay awake since I don’t consume caffeine after lunch. I finished exactly one stripe on my Punch Bug Vanilla Socks and decided life was to short for boring classes so I left the conference early to get a jump start on my 2.5 hour drive home.

The winds here in Kansas have been brutal this spring. It was a long hard drive home and I literally collapsed in bed after my kids went to bed last night. Time for coffee and head off to work!

Half Of Another Rainbow

Look at me following through on plans! I pulled my first finished tube of my Punch Bug Vanilla Socks and cut in my afterthought heel.

I used the leftovers from the first 50 grams to knit this heel. I tried to put the colors where a color wouldn’t touch itself. I also took note of how many grams I need to do the second sock with the color management I have had to do.

I really like how the heel turned out. I have my own “recipe” for an afterthought heel that adds the depth I need by adding some plain rows in to the basic toe shape. I was a little miffed that I JUST missed ending in yellow and a few pops of orange. Oh well!

Knot In The Rainbow

I forgot to tell you all that when I was at the doctor this week, I found a knot in my Felici yarn! I know, I know….knots are normal and acceptable in commercially produced yarn. But this knot totally interrupted my rainbow. This color change totally skipped light blue and yellow and went straight to orange.

So I took a deep breath and pulled out from the skein until I got back to a dark blue spot. I kinda had to fudge it since I already had some dark blue stitches knit on but not a full stripes worth. I ended up with a nice hunk of yarn pulled out.

I’m going to continue my sock to preserve the rainbow. I may have to get creative for the heel on this one. I might kick over to the first tube and get the heel installed so I know how much yarn that afterthought heel requires.

I still hate knots. Happy Knitting!!

Paper Gowns and Knitted Socks

I have reached another adult milestone, my allergies have changed. I have been miserable for months with clogged sinuses and ears. So I am trying a hybrid ENT and Allergy practice. They wanted to test my reactions so I did a full fledged skin test for the first time in 15 years. So there I sat in a paper gown DESPERATELY trying not to itch, so I knit!

I’m still on my second Punch Bug Vanilla Sock. I think *maybe* I have added another color stripe since I last showed you all. But this is my travel purse knitting that only gets worked on outside of the house.

The nurse was very complimentary of my knitting and then exclaimed “Whelp, you are allergic to ALL of Kansas!”. To which I responded, no shit! And she was kind enough to slather me in Benadryl and give me a sample Zyrtec. These socks might see some mileage now that I will be getting allergy shots every three weeks where I need to wait 20 minutes to make sure I don’t die.

Slowly Rainbow-ing Along

Here is an oldy but a goody. My Punch Bug Vanilla socks have reappeared in my craft rotation.

The first sock tube is done and I have the extra yarn tucked in side to keep it from tangling while I work on the second sock. I managed the yarn cakes so that I started from the same color stripe to make the socks match.

Looking at the first one, I am about half way on this second tube. I may push pause and go ahead and cut the first tube and install the heel. I could use some variety in my life, lol.

Reigniting The Rainbow

The knitting mojo is low right now as I’m kind of in between projects that aren’t my tiny socks and sweater. I finished my Bumbles Bounce socks and so I decided to pull out my Punch Bug Vanilla Socks.

A few work conference calls over the past few months only added up to two new color stripes. But with renewed vigor this week I made it to the cuff. I think two color stripes will give me a 1 inch cuff and I’ll be done. Then of course I need to start the second sock and put in the afterthought heel in sock number one.

FO Friday: Bumbles Bounce Vanilla Socks

The heels are fully installed in my Bumbles Bounce Vanilla Socks. This means I have a newly minted finished pair of socks!

Pattern: My own toe up vanilla sock recipe over 68 stitches with an afterthought heel

Yarn: MustStash Yarn Must Match Sock in the Bumbles Bounce colorway

Needles: US 1s

I love MustStash as her skeins are dyed to a perfect match. So my socks are perfectly identical with no work on my part. The socks used up 57 grams of the skeins so roughly 262 yards. I have enough for possibly another set of shorties with contrasting everything. But I will probably use the leftovers in my scrap projects.

Now I think I need to get back to my Punch Bug Vanilla Socks before I get distracted by more pretty yarn!

Bumble Heels

I had a FULL week of training at work. Like 8-5 every day for a week. The only way I could survive was to bring some knitting. I chose my Bumbles Bounce Socks.

It was SUPER productive. I finished both sock tubes and even got the first heel knit in. The training was leadership related and lots of thinking and talking so it was very easy to knit. And I caught a couple muggles mesmerized as I was knitting, lol.

So I just need to wrap up this last heel and I will have a finished pair of socks! They won’t be super tall but they will undoubtedly be super festive!!

Feet Up, Socks Out

Another week and another gymnastics lesson. The older teams were at a meet so the waiting room was not as packed with just the littles practicing. I snagged a couch and managed to put my feet up to knit!

My Bumbles Bounce Socks are both almost at the heel. I need to finish this white stripe and add a grey stripe and they will be the perfect length. I will add waste yarn for the afterthought heel. I still have some the blue from the advent socks in this project bag. Past Rachelle saved it for just that purpose, lol.

2022 Christmas Eve Cast On

I knew that I would finish up my 2022 Cozy Knitter advent socks on Christmas Eve so I planned another cast on for my Christmas Eve project. This was a skein of Must Stash Yarn that I scored on a destash.

It’s called Bumbles Bounce and its one of her must match skeins. So that means it actually two perfectly aligned half skeins starting at the same point. They also matched my Christmas jammies very well.

As they are aligned correctly, I think I will work them very similar to my advent socks. I will work equal numbers of stripes on each sock so they progress in tandem. That way I have finished socks at the same time. It really was satisfying!
