Finished: 2025 Advent Socks 2

The 2025 Advent Socks #2 are done and blocked even!

Pattern: My own toe up vanilla sock “recipe” with 64 stitches and an afterthought heel

Needles: US 1s

Yarn: The Cozy Knitter Bliss Sock for the 2025 advent with contrasting white mini and an extra KFI Collection Teenie Weenie mini in grey.

This combination of yarns used accounted for 282 yards of yarn. Not bad for a women’s medium is sock. And I used up all of three yarns without adding scraps. I do realize now that one white toe is longer than the other. And I cut the heels in by where the colors changed and not by measuring both socks. In hindsight, I should have measured both. So one foot is definitely slightly different than the other. I don’t think by more than a couple rows. It should all work out fine for my friend. She wears these insider her Birkenstock sandals or just has house slippers.

Now on to focus on the black and white socks! Happy Knitting!!

Now For The Heels

The tubes for my 2025 Advent Socks 2 are fully completed and I’m ready to start the afterthought heels.

This recipient has slightly smaller feet than me. She is the one who gets my shrunk or slightly felted socks when they are too small for me. I usually make a 7 inch leg for my foot so I decided to cut in the heel at 6.5 inches to not knit quite as deep. This could be a disaster? But I was hoping to get something to fit her more custom than my hand me downs, lol.

I am using some contrast grey to make the heels as I used up all the white in the toes. The good news is that knitting stretches and some negative ease helps with fit and sliding down in your shoe. I’ll have to find out after I deliver her gift box!

Happy Knitting!!

Snuggle Cuffs

It has been an eventful and cozy weekend. Both tubes for my 2025 Advent Socks Take 2 are close to done!

We had some snuggly fire time and watched a few movies. I powered through most of the rest of the rainbow and almost ready to bind off the ribbing. Just a few more minutes and then I can calculate and cut in my afterthought heel.

I will have to use some scraps or minis from my stash to do these heels. I need to do some stash diving to find the right mix. I am thinking a neutral grey?

2025 Advent Sock Progress

I’ve been beavering away on my 2025 Cozy Knitter Advent Socks. This photo is round about day 13.

I am loving the flecks again this year. I kinda wish I had done them mid stripe like the Cozy Knitter did on her instead of at the color transition. Perhaps something I can do in the next pair. I will have a second set of 24 stripes after these socks are finished.

I am a little worried about the heels. I am pretty sure the accent flecks are going to burn a ton of yarn and I won’t have enough to do the heels. I have some grey sock yarn in stash that would work but I can’t lay hands on the white Cascade sock yarn that should be somewhere….

Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: 2025 Cozy Knitter Advent Socks

It’s December 1st and that means it’s time to cast on advent socks!

True to my habits, I grabbed the Cozy Knitter 24 stripe advent for 2025. I prepped both toes with the contrast skein and I’m ready to start the first stripe later today. I do plan to use the contrast yarn to add flecks in between color changes.

This may mean I won’t be able to do the heels in the contrast. And that is a future Rachelle problem 😝

FO Friday: 2023 Leftover Advent Socks

Happy Friday!! I have some shiny new socks!

Pattern: My own 68 stitch “recipe” for toe up sock tubes and afterthought heel

Needles: US 1s

Yarn: The Cozy Knitter 2023 advent skein and Knitted Wit Smartie in Carbon

Working these toe up means I have used up every last inch of this beautiful self striping. And I got the full rainbow in before casting off. The ribbing could have been started soon but it’s close enough.

In total with the self striping and the contrast heel, the socks weigh 75 grams and used about 280 yards of yarn. The mini skein had a teeny tiny ball left but was almost completely used up.

It took me way to long to finish these but I’m happy to start beefing up my shortie sock stash in my drawer for next winter!

Happy Knitting!!

Almost Another Advent Pair

The 2023 Advent Leftover Socks are ALMOST done. Heel #1 is in and I’m starting on heel #2.

I just love how neat and tidy socks look on a sock blocker. The fit on the first sock is pretty good. I have been doing my own “recipe” for an afterthought heel for awhile where I add a number of extra plain rows in between my decreases to add depth to the heel. Works pretty well for my foot shape.

I also try to knit at a pretty tight gauge to improve longevity and wear on the fabric. Does take a toll on my hands after a bit. Happy Knitting!!!

Steel Heels

It took a hot minute but I finally I decided on and found a heel color for my 2023 Leftover Advent socks. During my 2019 trip to Oregon, I have a stash of Knitted Wit smarties and it was perfect.

This photo of the actual socks is older from my camera roll but the only one with the mini skein in it. I think the dark neutral will work nicely as the heel color. It’s not a color that exists anywhere in the skein.

The tubes are done and ready for the afterthought heels to be inserted. Should only be a couple more hours and I will have finished socks!

Tubes On The Go

My leftover socks got some windshield time during a recent spring break vacation. We took the kiddos skiing for the first time and they had fun and I discovered I am SUPER out of shape for skiing.

These will definitely be shorties. I have 4-5 stripes left before I run out of yarn. After some quick math, I will do one more round of plain stockinette and then finish the rest of the yarn in ribbing. I do like working these in tandem so that I avoid second sock syndrome!

I still haven’t done any stash diving to find heel yarn. The plan is to cut in afterthought heels with a contrast. The original advent socks used white but I will see what I have in stash that is comparable to this base.

Happy Knitting!!

Gotta Catch Up

My advent leftover socks got a little lopsided this past week. I got so caught up in the conversation I was having that the one on the right got much farther.

I think the red one is stripe 14 so that sock is halfway and the other is just shy. I still really enjoy this yarn and this knitting project lives in my work bag for meetings and doctor’s appointments.

I am making these over 68 stitches instead of 72 like my December advent socks. My other socks fit but have neutral ease instead of negative ease. I don’t feel time pressure with this project so I just let it ebb and flow.

Happy Knitting!!
