Last Throws Of Gardening

My garden is on its last legs but we are still getting some decent veggies. Last night’s picking included some tomatoes, poblanos and jalapenos.

My tomatoes are HUGE and none are smaller than my fist, lol.

Right now we are just cooking what we need for recipes and freezing the rest. I think Jellybean wants to try to make ketchup at some point. But that can be a good mid-winter boredom project.

Happy Gardening!!

Remoting And Knitting

I have had to return to the office full time but I immediately turned around and had a two day leadership training, lol. So I took full advantage and used my hours and hours on zoom to try and finish my Bifrost.

I really was able to work through at least two mini skeins worth of advent skeins. I have about a mini and a half left to go. I really hope to be done by this Friday. This project is FAR from perfect but it is very squishy and soft. It has been very soothing to knit row after row of garter stitch.

I’m already planning my next garter wrap 🙂

Happy Knitting!!

Knitting At Night

Bifrost continues to be my main focus here lately. I took some time this week to relax after the kiddos went to bed. I had squishy garter and Murder She Wrote on the TV. It was wonderful.

Love me some Jessica Fletcher. And man, do the 80s and 90s bring back some memories and nostalgia. (I’m old but no so old to have watched this originally but I did watch re-runs after school.)

I’m starting to see pops of teal showing up in my minis. So I’m getting through the neutrals and progressing to some full blown tonal teal minis at the end. I’m intrigued to see how the “fade” progresses.

Happy Knitting!!

Popping and Knitting

My two small children long ago destroyed my phone’s pop socket. Life got in the way and I never replaced it. My husband noticed (or heard me complain about it) so this showed up in our mailbox this week.

No clue where he got it but it makes me happy that he understands the depth of love I have for knitting. Now, the real question is how long before my kids destroy this one? Lol!

Happy Knitting!!

Continued Apple Adventures

The apple harvest continues! This time Jellybean and the husband talked me into apple pie. I must really love them because I spent SO MUCH time cutting and pealing apples.

I haven’t made a fruit pie since I was in high school so I was a little rusty. But what it lacked in beauty it made up for in flavor. At least according to my family. I don’t like fruit pies myself.

Next up Jellybean has requested we make apple butter. So the apple adventures look to be continuing, lol.

Happy Baking!!

Bifrost On The Wild

The temperatures around here are slowly coming down. Enough for this momma to agree to a morning park adventure before it really gets crowded. COVID is flaring badly around here so I am balancing fun activities with safe activities. But this isn’t a COVID blog so I digress.

I packed my Bifrost along for the trip. I managed maybe two or three rows in between chasing kids across the massive park and pushing swings. But for a few minutes I was in the warm sun with soft yarn running between my fingers.

Happy Knitting!!

Mending for PB

Another week and another mommy mending project to the rescue. PB showed up in tears with Teddy in need of some back surgery. No one is fessing up as to how Teddy got this point so we are just going to fix him and move on.

A little whip stitch by my inexpert hands and a fluff of bear fur and Teddy is back to normal. Just in time for the Teddy Bear Olympics at Jellybean’s school. (With permission from PB of course.)

I need to trip the cotton thread that was originally holding him togethter and I will return him to the wild!

Happy Mending!!!

More Spirit Yarn

My Etsy saved searches got my right in the wallet again this week. A previous destash shop on Etsy just loaded more new yarn and I opened the notification. So two new skeins of yarn followed me home.

I chose a Stellina Sock skein from Moonstone Dyeworks in a Christmas-y colorway. She’s a fantastic dyer and this was a base of her I had never tried. Next up was a merino singles skein from Mrs. Crosby in a deep green/blue saturated variegated/speckled skein. I don’t normally buy singles but the colors drew me in on this skein.

This is definitely not helping my “more out than in” goal for 2021. But sometimes yarn just happens, lol.

Happy Stashing!!

All The Apples

Our apple tree is giving us a bountiful harvest this year! I have a daily ritual of picking the ripe apples every evening (and raking/scooping the fallen ones into the trash). I finally had a refrigerator bin full so the kiddos and I made jelly!

After A TON of cutting and de-bugging I ended up with two instant pots full of beautiful red apples. The tree was here when we moved in so we have no clue what kind they are. We just call them red apples, lol.

We painstakingly drained and filtered the apples for most of the morning. That left us with enough juice for three full batches of jelly.

And the apply flesh/pulp the kids and I ran through the food mill to make apple sauce. I’m not a fan of applesauce but PB and Jellybean gobbled it up!

Safe to say our winter stores are good to go for jelly. No doubt some of this will end up in Christmas gifts!

Happy Canning!!

Bifrost-ing Along

My Bifrost is speeding right along. I am through most of the purple minis and I’m in the neutral creams and browns. It’s starting to get heavy and warm in my lap!

Thanks to TV watching (and possibly a glass of wine) I have on occasion added an extra stitch here and there. I have decided perfection is my enemy in this case and when I discover the extras I am just decreasing them away. Makes for a few lumps and bumps but no one will EVER notice in a garter shawl of this size.

The one thing I am fixing is where I split the yarns. I am marling my 2019 advent minis with skeins of Cloudborn merino singles. So I want to make sure every stitch uses both yarns, for strength purposes. So when I discover those stitches I am dropping down to fix them.

I should be approaching halfway with this project and couldn’t be happier! Happy Knitting!!
