Cast On: 2024 Advent Socks Take Two

I have been watching The Cozy Knitter make her advent socks and she does this cool feature of adding blips of the contrast yarn as she changes stripes. I have always meant to try it but then the holidays hit and I can only manage stockinette. After finishing a vanilla version, I am committing to trying this out!

I had to dig through my scraps to find some toe yarn. It’s a light grey from Red Door Fibers and should blend well with this mix of colors. I then used the scraps of the white contrast yarn from The Cozy Knitter to start my blips every 4th st.

This is my normal recipe for a 68 stitch toe up vanilla sock. I will do afterthought heels and this time inside a stripe to not mess up my colorwork. I am trying to work hard to make my floats stretchy and not pull them tight. It would be nice if these socks fits at the end!

So far I am happy with the look of these and I am learning a lot about managing the white yarn to avoid 1,000 ends on the inside. Should be interesting!!

Happy Knitting!!

Finished: 2024 Advent Socks

All tucked in cozy over here in the new year with some glamour shots of my 2024 Advent Socks!

Pattern: My own “recipe” for 68 stitch toe up vanilla socks and afterthought heel

Needles: US 1s

Yarn: 2024 24 stripe advent skein from The Cozy Knitter with her Bliss base

I decided to finish these socks with the striping yarn and not the white. I decided to use that partial mini skein I had left for another project/plan. The finished length is more than an ankle sock but less than mid calf. All in all I think I used 270 yards of yarn combined and I have a full set of the 24 stripes left.

I did insert an afterthought heel and I tweak this to fit my large foot. I add extra plain rows at the beginning of the sock and taper down to add depth for me. It’s not fool proof but the socks don’t get sucked into my shoes.

This color set wasn’t my favorite of her past advent skeins but I still love the finished socks. I wasn’t sure why we progressed to the lighter colors and then back to saturated colors?

2024 Advent Heels

I did a fairly decent job of keeping up with my advent socks. I managed to get to Day 21 and fully installed heels by Christmas.

I have day 22-24 stripes left to work and I think I will cap this sock off with working ribbing in the striping yarn. I do have some of the white left but I think I have plan for that…..

I’m excited to get these off the needles and I am confident I will start the second repeat of this yarn on another pair of socks. This yarn is too good to waste and knitting those little bits every day is such a hit of dopamine.

Catching Up Socks

I love love love the Cozy Knitter advent socks. This is my 3rd year and she always does such a great job.

Typical mom life, I’m way behind but I adore the nights when I get to sit down and work on my stripes. This pic is around day 11. I am still trying to decide if there is a pattern of the colors? They do seem to have a repetition of color families?

Also, was I going to use the white contrast to do little blips in between colors, yes. Did I remember to do that, no. I will have a second repeat of these 24 color sequence and I can try that design feature for the second pair.

Happy Knitting (and remembering)!!

Bonus Pink Tube Socks

I forgot to you show you all the finished Pink Tubes I made for Jellybean after finished his regular socks.

I had Jellybean try these on as well to make sure they were a good fit. I didn’t tell him what I was doing and he’s used to me knitting all kinds of stuff that he didn’t ask any questions. He did wonder how I got those spirals to happen. I told him Magic….

These tubes with the sock yarn and mini skein, I added 340 yards of yarn to my KAL total. And I really like how the contrasting cuff and toes look with the variegated yarn. I also put these in my cedar chest to chill out until the holidays…

More Kiddo Christmas Tubes

Duke and I are working hard on Christmas gift knitting. I am really excited about making tube socks for Jellybean that will maybe have a longer shelf life with his growing feet.

I pulled out another sock snake and started installing some toes and cuffs. Amazing how fast those go without adding heels! The main yarn is unlabeled from my stash. But the contrast is some Knitted Witt Smarties mini skeins in Mighty Oak (green)

These tubes are exactly half of the sock snake. I did cheat a little and have Jellybean try them on to see if he balked at the feel. But he liked them! So I feel better about starting the second set of tubes, phew!

I may even go back to my pink sock snake and get those worked up too! I hope he is going to enjoy them. Happy Knitting!!

Finished: Kiddo Christmas Socks

Surprise! I have a finished pair of socks….

Jellybean has REALLY been wearing his hand-me-down wool socks when he sleeps at night. I decided he needs some of his own. So I pulled out some sock snakes and got to work. I was knitting these on the down low so he couldn’t see and I didn’t even show the blog the cast on!

These are some Tofutsies variegated yarn with heels/toes/cuffs made from Leading Men Fiber Arts Show Stopper base. These are about 1 inch shorter than mine and they will have a life expectancy before his feet outgrow them for sure. But the yarn is soft, washable and kid perfect.

I worked these on US 1s over 72 stiches and the finished yardage ended up at 257 yards of yarn. Now I need to keep these safe and clean until Christmas!

Socks In A Stadium

I found this gem on my camera roll and realized I forgot to share! Earlier this month I took Jellybean to his first “real” concert at Arrowhead to see Morgan Wallen.

It was hot, it was loud and Jellybean was beaming the whole time. Meanwhile I was sweating from every pore and also singing at the top of my lungs. I warned Jellybean that we would have a lot of downtime so I brought my knitting.

I got a few rounds in on my Penguin Socks and took a photo commemorate. Morgan puts on a good show, lots of lazers, lots of fire and noise so loud my phone warned me it was unsafe. Jellybean and I will totally do that again….but maybe not for awhile. It was 1:30 am before we got to bed!

Happy Knitting in Public!!

FO Friday: Prism Socks

I was well and truly ready for these socks to be done. So I made a point to put on a good movie and crank these out this week. My Prism Socks did turn out stunningly!

These are 68 stitch Rachelle sized socks. I knit two full rainbow repeats and then wrapped up the socks using the remaining mini skein not used in the heels. They are higher than ankle socks and lower than mid-calf. All total these were 260 yard socks or 63 grams.

I used just bang on half of the String Theory Colorworks self-striping skein so I could make a second pair of socks if I wanted. But I am thinking I will work this yarn into my mitred square blanket and my granny stripe blanket instead. I am ready to move on to other sock projects for a bit

Happy Knitting!!

Prism Heels

Traveling has been good for my WIP progress. My Prism Socks are starting to look like socks.

I honestly am a little tired of these socks. The yarn is great and the colors are cheery but I just wanted to be done. So I pulled a mini skein out of granny strip project and got my heels cut in.

I found a tonal black mini that matched fairly well. It was a Red Door Fibers mini from KITH KC 2024. I really like the look of the coordination but man….dark fibers are hard for these eyes! But I made it and now after the heels are done I can just finish the leg/cuff and move on to new projects.

Happy Knitting!!
