Rose Apothecary Tube

I finally decided to end my first tube on my GFOA socks.

I did decide to stop in the blues. I thought I would save the greys and purple for the heels. But when I wound up the little nubbin it looks scarily small. I might need to find a contract skein for the heels in these socks.

I am going start and work on the second tube before I go with heels. I should have a good idea what I’m working with yarn-wise at that point. Plus I my brain is on scramble here lately and I don’t have the brain cells to make any more decisions, lol.

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Punch Bug Vanilla Socks

I finally added the LAST heel on the second sock of my Punch Bug Vanilla Sock!

I have a new finished object to flaunt! My only rub is that my heels don’t match. But I’m going to just do some deep knee bends to get over it.

These socks used 75 grams of yarn or just 327 yards. So I have 25 grams of yarn to add to my memory blanket. I used size 1 US needles and 68 stitches total in my sock. I did some gentle leg increases to account for my health calves. I have zero plans on what these socks will be or for whom they are destined. I am pleased to add to my 2023 finished project goals!

No Chewing

The puppy is finally allowing me to spin small amounts without biting my wheel. So I am working on progress with my purple floof!

Duke is working on his sit and stay. It works best when he is worn out or tired of course. But either way I am getting smidgeons of spinning tiem. I am still working on the singles of my Hipstrings blend that is Merino, Rambouillet, and and sparkly nylon.

Given my the speed at which my life is hurtling and the life of a new puppy, this fiber is just spinning up to what it wants to be. What the end result might be….might even surprise me!

Happy Spinning!!

Mom Summer Plans

I went out on a limb and signed Jellybean up for golf lessons that included a team building component. He doesn’t see super interested in general sports but golf fits. This means two hours, twice a week I have “mom” time. I have decided to dedicate to knitting and reading!

I am cruising through my first 2023 GFOA sock tube and I just started a new summer read by Janet Evanovich. I am immensely enjoying both!

I have also joined a co-worker’s book club and I’m expanding my reading world. The Measure is out next up July book and I can’t wait to dig in! So don’t mind me, I’ll be over her reading and knitting!!

My First Handspun Sock

I cast on my handspun sock yarn! It is summer travel time and Kansas has some long flat highways!!

I got the toe started and I’m working in the round now. I am using US 4 needles and this gauge is TIGHT. I am pleased with handspun but I think I need to muddle on stitch count and needle size.

This is feeling much like heavy worsted and would benefit from fewer stitches and bigger needles. I don’t think I have enough for a full pair of socks. Though I have decided I am going to power through and see what I can make. A single handspun sock is still valuable as a learning experience!

Happy Knitting!!

Stopped Mid Row

Safely back home and back to my regular schedule. I had the itch to pick up my Chromatic Yarns Chevron blanket. When I pulled it from the bag, I realized I had stopped mid row….rookie mistake. But it does make it lie very nicely for photos.

I am solidly in the third color and really liking my color progression choices. This will definitely be a long term WIP. It is relatively puppy safe as it is contained in a single bag. But I only get so much knitting time in between puppy playing and sleepy snuggles. I mean, he’s only super tiny for a little while!

Happy Knitting!!

Pride Sock

My current purse knitting is accidently on brand with Pride and the month of June. I got a lot of comments on it this past weekend at PB’s gymnastics practice. I am really cruising through the second send of rainbow stripes!

I am calling these my 2023 GFOA socks as I started them at a conference but the name may have to change. They are my comfort knitting of late as my life got very stressful very suddenly. I am finding peace is watching the rainbow materialize.

The tube is getting very very long. To keep them wearable I don’t think I can do the full second rainbow repeat as they will be too tall and too tight on my calves. I am adding decreases to account for width and I’m just playing it by ear as I visually see the sock.

Meanwhile Jellybean and I are off to some Juneteenth celebrations and festivities! Happy Knitting!!

Let’s Go Home Knitting

My brain is full and I’m ready to head home tomorrow from my work conference. My travel socks didn’t get as much work as I had hoped at the conference. A lot of the days I chose not to carry my backpack and just a small clutch so I could move around the conference better. Which means less knitting but a healthier back and less foot pain.

I have seven hours of travel tomorrow so my goal is to double this progress and at least get through the full rainbow. Do you think I can make it?

Happy Knitting!!

Airport Art

I snagged some cool photos on my airport adventures yesterday! Portland, OR had some art installations on the wall and my head snapped around when I realized it was crochet!! (Oh and the sun was shining…it was a great PNW day!)

I know the PNW is all about the fibery goodness. But this takes the cake. I was was one of many admiring the handiwork. From a distance you can barely tell this is crochet!

I snapped a photo of the artist information in case anyone else wanted to check her out!

Happy Crafting!!

A New Travel Sock

I have a quick work conference this week so of course none of my current knitting would work. I DEFINITELY needed to cast on something new!

I pulled some vintage KirbyWirby sock yarn from my stash. This one is her Rose Apothecary Remix color. I hand wound this into a big ball and I had a wee little toe for my flight halfway across the country.

I strategically got an aisle seat so I could knit comfortably on the first flight leg, but was not so lucky on leg number two. So I read my book for the last two hours. I am reading the latest Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum book. Yeah, I know they are all the same but I find that comforting!

Now I’m off to learn a whole bunch! Happy Knitting!!
