Blanketing Along

Another week and another gymnastics class. I am firmly about three rows away from finishing color number two on my Chromatic Yarn ZigZag blanket!

I was able to snag a spot on one of the couches this week instead of a folding chair. That really felt the height of luxury! Gymnastics will be winding down for the year and PB will take the summer off. I have a 50% chance she will want to take up new classes in the fall. We will cross that bridge later!

Happy Knitting!!

The Last Fire 2023

The

Mother Nature threw a late cold snap at us and I took the luxury of one last fire in the fireplace before spring starts in earnest. It’s been WINDY here so this cold rainy day is a nice break.

I’m getting really close to finished color number two in my Chromatic Yarns ZigZag blanket. The next skein up is still mainly purple but will add in some pinks to break up the purples. I am still working 50+ hours at my day job during busy season so my crafting mojo is LOW. And I’ve set intentions to move more so I have reengaged to play competitive volleyball one to two times a week to add cardio to my life. So far I have hurt my foot on day one!

Onward and Upward!!

Bonus Hotel Knitting

I’m off to an accounting conference today and got some bonus hotel knitting in last night. The conference was JUST far enough away that I didn’t want to leave my house at 4:45 am so I drove down early.

A fluffy bed, no kids, no responsibilities meant a whole evening of uninterrupted knitting. I am still working on stripe number two in my Chromatic Yarns Chevron blanket. It really does take 35-45 minutes to do a full row and return row. But I’m finding my groove and getting really excited about this project. I’ll have to pull out my purse sock for the conference today as this blanket is definitely too unwieldly!

Happy Knitting!!

Starting The Second Skein

I have finally attached the second skein to my Chromatic Yarns ZigZag Blanket!

I am using all Chromatic Yarns DK. The first skein was called Metagaming Pigeon and the Second is called Eldritch Blast. I used Eldritch blast to make a knitted bralette some time ago.

I think the two sets of colors really look nice up against one another. I have a pseudo rainbow type thing planned that will end again with the Metagaming Pigeon color. For some reason my stash had two of the same color so I thought it would be cool to begin and end with matching yarn.

Lingering Fire

Spring may start tomorrow but Kansas didn’t get the memo. A fire has been cozy the past several days. I have been feeling the vibes for my Chromatic Yarns ZigZag blanket.

I am just about to finish the first skein and join the next color. I thought I had taken a photo of the fade I had decided on. But I can’t find it anywhere. So I am going to re-lay out the colors and set my new order.

It still takes me a good 35 to 45 minutes to work a full row and return row. So this won’t be done anytime soon but I have the blanket pattern memorized and it’s good easy knitting now. Happy Knitting!!

Self Care Essentials

This past weekend held the KnitGirllls monthly Patreon zoom. My family had just come home from a 4 hour circus that had everyone over loaded from the spectacle of it all. The rest of the family opted for a movie where I opted for wine, cheese and knitting.

I’m making ever so slow progress on my Chromatic Yarns ZigZag Blanket. I think I have added at least five more garter ridges since last I showed you. I had a lovely 2 hours of self care time before diving into dinner and bathtimes.

What’s your favorite self care?

LONG Rows

I traveled to see my GG for her 90th birthday. I pulled out my hibernating Chromatic Yarns ZigZag Blanket. It was great car knitting. The pattern is getting easier but with 300+ stitches it takes me over an hour to work the pattern and return row.

I think I am about halfway through the first skein of this DK yarn. This blanket will be a fade of my hoard of Chromatic Yarns DK stash. I love her speckles and color sense. I just need like 1,000 hours to get all these stitches done!

Happy Knitting!!

Blanket Scunchie

Thanks to PB’s makeup gymnastics practices my Chromatic Yarns ZigZag blanket now looks like a scrunchie!

There are over 300 stitches on the needles so it takes me approximately 45 minutes to do the pattern and return row on this zig-zag. Needless to say, this might be an all winter long WIP, lol.

I have roughly 10 rows completed with like a million to go. Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: Chromatic Yarns Zigzag Blanket

I couldn’t wait any longer, I cast on a Zigzag blanket from my stash of Chromatic Yarns DK.

This will hopefully be throw sized as there are over 300 stitches on my needles. It was a lot of counting to get the zig zag set up successfully. But now I hope it’s going to cruise along. I am using size 5 needles with DK weight yarn.

I have the colors laid out to make a fade of sorts. I will knit until I run out of my current color and then add the next. The yarn is variegated enough that I don’t think actually fading would add that much. So simple and stead it is!

This should make for some cozy winter knitting. Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Zen Yarn Garden Baby Blanket

I’m so pleased to keep my FO train rolling! This week I finished my Zen Yarn Garden Baby Blanket!

Pattern: Zen Yarn Garden Baby Blanket by Staci Perry

Yarn: Knit Picks Brava Bulky in Solstice Heather, Cobblestone Heather and Red.

Needles: US 13s

Mods: Cast on 144 total stitches and worked extra stripe repeats. I also added fringe/tassels. My Rav notes are here.

I really wanted to use up every last inch of yarn and I had pretty decent sized balls when I bound off. So I thought…tassels! I measured and broke up my remaining yarn and added them to the points of my chevrons. This took the yardage of this blanket to 1,006 yards! I know the tassels are the most baby friendly but I can always remove them later. But for now I adore them!

I haven’t taken finished measurements yet but I have washed and dried this blanket. The above photo is taken on our king sized guest bed and it covers a good sized portion of it. Most of all, I’m just beyond thrilled to have over 1,000 yards of acrylic out of my stash and put to proper good (and washable) use!

Happy Knitting!!
