Cast On: Electric Mayhem Socks

My flow of webex meetings and conference calls is not slowing down anytime soon. So I know I needed more purse/backpack knitting after having empty sock needles. And because I have been storing up a well curated stash…I know I could just go shopping through my lovelies!

Because of my baby brain and current complete lack of energy I knew the perfect sock skein to grab. And by perfect, I mean already caked up in a matching set….no winding up required! This is my Electric Mayem color from KnitCircus Yarn on their Greatest of Ease base. Literally I only had to grab a project bag and some empty needles.

I hope to get these cast on today during my webinar. My plan is to get started on a 68 stitch toe-up vanilla sock and knit the tube until I run out of yarn. This is their 75 gram set  so that should be just about the right amount of yarn for my size socks while not having to stop before the gradient is done. I will use my big box store workhorse yarn to put in afterthought heels in a solid black.

This is one yarn I’m not concerned about saving scraps for my memory blanket. I want to get every bit of delicious color gradient into the sock. I am so giddy to get these going and watch those electric colors transition!

Happy Knitting!!

Yarning Again

My knitting mojo has been a bit illusive lately. Even though I have lots of things on the needles and I love them all….I just can’t quite get excited about them. I’m in my third trimester and outside of ice cream or a nap not a lot make makes my heart go pitter patter, lol.

I got a small boost in my knitting realm the other day, I was the lucky recipient of a giveaway on the Bede Sisters Podcast and the host Kay. She’s a delight to listen to and the giveaway win is just the pick me up I needed! I received this special package in the mail…

And in it was two skeins of Felici Sock in the Soft Serve colorway. They are the most delicate Easter/ice cream colors and this yarn is my sister’s FAVORITE to receive hand knit socks in. She loves the soft fabric it creates. I’m not sure given my impending due date that these will hit the needles right away, but it’s nice to tuck away some yarn that I know will have an enthusiastic recipient.

I was also weak…..my job has really stunk here lately. Like it’s been super stressful and busy and just a hot mess where I may have actually cried one day. I sort of self-medicated with some super super duper wish list yarn. I have one pair of KnitCircus socks from their gorgeous rainbow gradient and I have been craving their yarn since then. And having an internet enable smart device while pregnant and stressed is a heady mix.

I picked up some KnitCircus Greatest of Ease 75 gram matching sock set in the Electric Mayhem color. These will need to be on my needles SOON! They are a pregnancy dream….already matched and wound into ready to knit cakes. Now I just need needles and a bag and I’m good to go. Soon my pretties….soon….

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Rainbow Socks

I’m very pleased to present….

A beautiful finished rainbow. I was worried about matching up the cuffs but I think I did well! They fit like a dream. And they are so gorgeous I can’t stop staring at them…

My Ravelry page is here. But here is a summary of the important details:

Yarn: Over The Rainbow by Jaala Spiro/KnitCircus

Pattern: heavily modified Sand Dune Socks by Trish Halliburton

Needles: US 1s

I cast on 70 stitches to start. I nipped in a few after the heel to hug my ankle and increased pretty liberally at the cuff for my, ahem, muscular calves.

I thought they turned out very a very good match. And I used every last bit of yarn. I think I had 12-14 inches left? I’m just pleased as punch with my most extravagant yarn purchase ever. All I did was knit and let the yarn sing!

Happy Knitting!

Near The End of The Rainbow

I’ve far too quickly come to the end of my Rainbow.

I’m already working the ribbed cuff in purple. This yarn from KnitCircus has just been yummy. And the yardage generous enough for some very tall socks.  The colors transition beautifully  and made them addicting. Which is good because I have not had much dedicated knitting time lately, just a few rows here and there. But slow and steady still finishes the race right?

Now my only conundrum is that I didn’t take very good notes on my increases in the rib section on sock #1. Guess I’ll just have to use my best guess!

Happy knitting!

The End Of The Rainbow!

Squeee!!!! It fits! Happy St Patrick’s to all! I thought it was fitting to show you my “pot of gold” at the end of my rainbow…..a finished sock…..

I played fast and loose with the cast off edge. I literally finished with 12 inches of yarn! I’m so pleased with my Rainbow socks so far. I wish the blue section was a little bigger as its my favorite color. But the overall rainbow is just so striking! Jaala with KnitCircus hit it out of the park with this one.

The slip stitch heel fits nicely. I am only loosely following this pattern. But it’s very well written and a perfect base for my mods. Now I just need to cast on the second one!

Happy Knitting!

IT’S HERE!!

My biggest yarn splurge ever finally arrived in the mail. I might have squeed a bit and danced away from the mail box. Behold!

Oh my it’s just so pretty. I resisted buying this for myself because “I wasn’t good enough” or “it was too expensive” but I’m so glad I got over that. These are gorgeous. And the minute I have free needles this yarn IS going on my needles. Alas that means finishing my Happy Vanilla socks or my Husband Socks. My bets are on the Happy Socks….fewer stitches!!

Biggest Yarn Splurge….Ever

My favorite Aunt did something wonderful this year. Instead of trying to find something I didn’t already have and would love for Christmas, she did something genius. She wrote a letter and tucked in some cash, with one rule. Rule: Spend it on something personal and luxurious! It was something she had always wanted to do and would have loved herself at my stage of life.

I knew right away it would be yarn. And deep down in my knitters soul I knew what I wanted….beautiful gradient sock yarn. I’ve been honing my sock skills this past year. And I’ve always wanted badly to work with gradient color. I went to my favorite Etsy store for gradients: Knitcircus Yarns! I’ve drooled over their yarn forever but couldn’t justify spending that on myself.

I chose carefully…Over The Rainbow custom gradient matching sock yarn. My little knitter hands CANNOT wait to get my hands on this. I had a mini panic attack as this is the most I’ve ever paid for yarn. But I’m worth it…I hope!

Stay tuned and I’ll hope to do something very magical with it. Happy knitting to all!
