Mighty Rainbow Blanket Update

I’m officially half way done with my Mighty Rainbow Blanket!

I finished the Macaw (dark green) and started the Sky (light blue). I have to admit to feeling a little bit of momentum building on this project. I think partially because I’m closer to done than starting. But also because I’m into the cooler colors that I seem to favor over the warm tones.

I have set this insane arbitrary goal of having this done by December 31st. With an even crazier thought of trying to have this done by Christmas…I have to be nuts!

Happy Knitting!

Blanket Mojo

I’ve conquered another color on my mighty rainbow blanket!

This new green color is called Macaw and it’s just so rich and bright! I usually hate blankets but I’m finding this one very meditative. When I finish this stripe I will be halfway done. I also keep looking in my project bag and peaking at the upcoming colors in delight. Still to come are rich blues and vibrant purples, be still my heart!

WIP Wednesday: Mighty Rainbow Blanket

I’ve finished the second stripe on my Mighty Rainbow Blanket!

I was like four or five rows short of finishing this orange color and it took me all of my tonsillectomy recovery time to get those rows done. The Hiya Hiya wooden needles are MUCH better than the plastic interchangeables I started with. I feel like I will be able to work much faster now that I don’t have to be so careful.

Next up….yellow!!

Too Foggy For These Needles

I’ve made some progress on my Mighty Rainbow Blanket. I’m almost through the second skein, orange.

But my old faithful Denise interchangeables just can’t keep up as this blanket gets heavier and heavier. The cable joins just keeping coming unsnapped and I’m too much in pain and foggy to deal with picked up stitches. So I had the hubby run out and picked up some Hiya Hiya wooden 29 inch circ. He’s a good husband!

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Jayne Hat

A very good SAHM friend asked for a favor. She wants to do a family costume theme of Firefly for Halloween. And she asked for a Jayne Hat for her 1 yo. I was more than happy to oblige!

Pattern: The Toddler Called Jayne by Milli Davis

Yarn: Knit Picks Mighty Stitch

Needles: US 8

I was super happy with his item! It was crazy fast and super simple. And the momma was crazy excited to get it. The toddler may have sobbed at being required to wear it, but maybe it will grow on him?

Jellybean may need one of these too….

Happy Knitting!

Garter Garter Garter

I’ve completed one tenth of my Mighty Rainbow Blanket! In other words I have used up the first color/skein of yarn.

This yarn is just so soft and yummy. And the garter is just so soothing and perfect fall TV knitting. I’m done with red and started the orange. The pattern called for 30 rows per color but I was able to get 35 rows in red. I’ll see if I can get than any in orange!

Happy Knitting!!

What Did I Get Myself Into

The yarn for my Aeon Vest is here! Now I’m being a good girl. I’ve knit a swatch…

I haven’t blocked it yet. But I did use the recommended size 6 needles and the fabric is very loose. I haven’t compared this to pattern guage because it’s not blocked and I’m not sure I like how this fabric feels. I want this vest not to grow when worn or be too loosey goosey.

Now before I did this swatch I had taken my measurements to find the appropriate pattern size. I then went about marking up the pattern after reading carefully. I like to white out all the directions that don’t apply to me and make notes/highlights to help me along the way. Now I’m not sure the size I marked is the one I’ll end up knitting based on my desired fabric guage…knitting fail.

Having done all that, I can’t help but think….what the hell did I get myself into!? This pattern is knit in one piece and has detailed directions. But it’s my first foray into a moderately shaped piece with lots of *at the same time*. I may well lose what little brains I have left. But  I know I will need to color coded the snot out of this to reduce my chance of screwing up.

Only time will tell! Happy Knitting!!
