Second Set Of Raiders Letters

I am done with the lettering on the Raiders Hat.

Now that it is done, I do wish I had done the letters in the black yarn and not the grey. The grey looks fine but it doesn’t ‘pop’ like the black would have. And it doesn’t bother me enough to rip it back and redo it. So now I just need to finish the crown to be done.

I did add an extra row in the black stripes and white before and after the letters. I think this will add some height without changing the shape of the finished hat.

Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: Raiders Hat

While I still had the project bag, needles and pattern put together I did decide to start another Raiders themed hat. My first one was great and I still felt the urge to “use up more of the yarn” and also play with the colors.

I’ve done the medium size again on this one. But I am knitting the ribbing on US 3s instead of US 4s. Mostly because my US 4s are otherwise occupied. And I have gone up to the US 5s for the hat body. This time I am starting in Treasure Goddess Warmth Worsted in Pieces of Eight for a grey theme instead of black.

Now, how fast can I get to the colorwork? Happy Knitting!!

Finished: Dee’s Retirement Hat

It took me a minute to find a place warm enough to get Dee’s Retirement Hat washed blocked and dry. But she is done!!

Pattern: Touchdown Beanie by Katie Carlson (Rav Link)

Yarn: Treasure Goddess Yarns Warmth worsted in Gunpowder, Pieces of Eight and White Sand Beaches

Needles: US 4s and US 5s

Mods: Added an extra row of white stockinette before and after the lettering

This was a size adult medium for the pattern. I ended up with 83 grams of total yarn used across all three colors. Obviously that mostly is the Gunpowder (darker black). I would have enough of the grey to make a full second medium hat and flip flip the black and the grey….do I dare attempt a second hat before the party….

Happy Knitting!!

Raiders Decreases

Dee’s Retirement Hat is gonna be done today! I just set up the final decreases last night and saved for today to do in the daylight as the dark yarn is DEADLY at my age for nighttime knitting.

I think this will end up the perfect size for my curly haired friend. I just can’t wait to see how the letters block out. They look raised at the moment but that could be from my carrying the yarn across instead of breaking it like I did with the Chiefs hat.

Almost to an FO! Happy Knitting!!

All Spelled Out

The Raiders Beanie aka Dee’s Retirement Hat now has all the letters.

The colorwork on this was intriguing. I had only been doing the Swiftie and Chiefs version up to now. These are just many iterations of the Touchdown Beanie by Katie Carlson. The Raiders chart was actually kind of nice as the letters were very straight and close together. Meaning I rarely had to trap my floats. Which was very nice

I did choose to carry my main color across the back and I’ll just snip the long tails to weave in. I can’t tell from this stage how my tension is, so fingers crossed..

Happy Knitting!!

Starting The Raiders Chart

The Raiders Hat is all done with the ribbing and set up to be ready for the colorwork.

I am working with hand dyed yarn and this skein of “black” is highly variegated. I’m not hating it but it’s also maybe not the aesthetic I was hoping for. I am going to continue regardless as I am on the deadline of the retirement party. I do have enough yarn that I could switch the colors and make the light grey the main color again. It appears to be more solid.

Why am I like this? I do not know….but at least I might use up the yarn! 🙂

Happy Knitting!!
