Nailed It (So Far)

I am trying to dust off my WIPs to clear them out for the 2025 Pigskin Party KAL. No WIPs allowed in that. Today I pulled out the Crown Town Hat and installed the KC into the main body.

The pattern called for duplicate stitch and I’m rubbish at that. So I decided to double down and work stranded colorwork. I simply left LONG loops and moved the blue yarn back to the beginning of the row. I’ll cut those later and weave in both ends.

I think I did not so bad! Blocking will do a world of good for this. I feel like this hat is going to be shallow so I might add a few rows after the KC to make sure this will fit my dad. I hope I don’t regret my decision, lol.

Conference Hat Brim

It’s been a hot minute since I last touched my Conference 2025 Hat. I had some downtime getting my windshield repaired so I got the brim folded and attached.

It feels like riding a bike as I have been on a sweater kick lately and returning to my hat knitting. I have zero plans for this hat, just a slow and steady knit that runs around with me in my work bag.

A few more inches of hat body and I will be ready for decreases! Happy Hat Knitting!!

Joining Crown Town Brim

I am finally done being annoyed with the mistakes I made on the Crown Town hat and I decided to finish the brim.

I am not sure I counted correctly as the fold doesn’t look even but on theme with this hat, I am moving on. I need to work in the round and then start the next section. I feel rebellious and I want to add the next part in colorwork instead of duplicate stitch. I mean, what else can I screw up on this hat?

Finished: Dream State Musselburgh

Next up on the FO parade is my Dream State Musselburgh!

Pattern: Musselburgh by Ysolda Teague (Rav Link)

Needles: US 5s

Yarn: Knitterly Things Vesper Superwash DK in Dream State and TreasureGoddess Yarn DK Treasures in Song of the Sirens

I ended up using all of the Vesper DK and had to supplement. I don’t think it looks too bad? The whole project ended up at 118 grams or 280 yards of yarn. I would definitely call this an adult small or medium size. I just knit the stitch gauge I liked and didn’t fuss with doing Ysolda’s gauge table.

I was happier with this hat as it is DK using size 5 needles. I guess I know why I was using 7s on Siren Beanie since my 5s were in this hat! This hat too is off to the gift pile for now.

Finished: Siren Beanie

Home safely from DC and catching up on my FO photo and finishing touches. Today is my Siren Beanie!

Pattern: My own stockinette beanie recipe with 112 stitches

Needles: US 7s

Yarn: TreasureGoddess Yarns DK Treasures in Song of the Sirens colorway

I think I figured out why this hat is so big. I grabbed US 7s and used the stitch count for a hat I would normally make on US 5s. So hence the looser stitches and larger finished object. I used 82 grams of this DK skein which is about 225 yards of yarn.

I am going to go with “unintentional design feature”. I added my tag, wove in all my ends and added this to the gift pile.

Cast On: Conference 2025 Hat

Alas, it’s time to wrap up my DC trip and head home. I did get to cast on my next hat in the last session to have it ready for my flight home. I am calling this one my Conference 2025 Hat.

Like a broken record this is my 88 stitches on US 8s with worsted yarn basic hat “recipe” and I made good progress on the flight. Though I got a little distracted. The lovely young women next to me turned out to be a NASA scientist how also knits! We talked for quite awhile.

I think I shocked her a little bit as she is just getting out of scarf and blanket phase and into garments. I showed her some of my stuff and talked about my knitting, to which she responded “Oh you are a like a KNITTER then”. And I laughed as I couldn’t disagree!

Won By A Hair

First session of the last day and my Dream State Musselburgh is done! Well at least the knitting party

I had the teeniest bit of the solid maroon left. Therefore I completely used up two skeins of yarn on this trip with what I am calling zero scraps.

I had been a little worried this hat would be very shallow and therefore kids sized. But I think given how its folding that it could be an adult small to medium? I will do more precise analysis after I get home and do finishing touches.

Almost Finished Siren Beanie

My hands needed something different so I switched to the Siren Beanie for the afternoon sessions and cranked out the crown decreases!

I need to get back to the hotel room and use my darning needle to weave in ends and secure the top. I am pretty happy with the hat and got some interesting looks from fellow attendees. This hat is definitely an adult LARGE. I am worried at the rate that I am knitting that I am going to run out of projects!

Happy Knitting!!

Conference Dream State

Pre-conference sessions have started. And I made some additional progress on my Dream State Musselburgh.

I am glad I packed a light sweater in my bag. As hot as it is outside, it is that much over air conditioned inside!! I was literally shivering in some of the ballrooms. I am on track to finish this hat soon and I may need to wear it!

Happy Knitting!!

Hotel Knitting Hats

Shoo boy, I have had a full day of sight seeing and sweating. Literally had to shower twice today. I am enjoying the air conditioning and a little hotel quiet before conference networking tonight. All the walking and metro riding today made good progress on my Siren Beanie.

I have most of the hat body done and need to measure for the total length. I might be able to start the decreases. This hat really is feeling large. I may have not counted my cast on correctly or perhaps my gauge is changing? Not a huge problem just an interesting thought after my previous hats have been so consistent.

This hat got to see the National Mall, Air and Space Museum and American History Museum. Tomorrow is more networking and visiting some restaurants.

Happy Knitting and Traveling!
