Flying Across The Waves

My Ocean Geek socks are flying!

This is the ultimate in potato chip knitting right now. I literally can’t wait to get to the next stripe. I’ve finished the foot, part of the leg, and installed the (partially) afterthought heel!

The fabric of this sock is turning out to be more loose than my others. I’m not sure this is going to be a hard wearing sock. But it will be gorgeous!

Happy knitting!!

Wowza That’s Bright!

I’m still on a sock binge completely fueled by Soctober and all the lovely blog posts I’ve been reading. I pulled some more of my Mother’s Day yarn splurge. I have been working through the back catalog of The Knitmore girls podcast where Gigi has been in a flourmania sock phase. It started that itch in my brain and I just needed more neon in my life!

Holy smokes this is bright! But I simply adore it! I’m doing a basic 68 stitch toe up vanilla sock. I’m also hoping to count this towards both #dcspigskinparty2015 ala The Down Cellar Studio podcast and #operationsockdrawer ala the Knitmore Girls podcast contests. But my abbreviated knitting time lately may make this a long term WIP.

Winter is coming and my feetsies are getting chilly….must knit faster!

WIP Wednesday: Conference Vanilla Socks

I had 32 hours of CPE in the past two weeks at work. For those that don’t know that’s continuing professional education and mine was in governmental finace and financials. Sounds exhilarating right? That’s roughly four days of all day lecture on less than sizzling topics. Needless to say I packed my knitting! I have one FO to share Friday that I managed to finish but I also made good progress on another WIP…

These are my conference vanilla socks in Saki Bamboo. This yarn is heavenly! And the stripes make my heart sing. The first sock is done sans the afterthought heel. The second sock represents my progress over 2.5 days of lecture. I finished the foot and roughly half of the leg. Not too shabby if I do say so myself.

Oh how I wish I had discovered knitted socks in college! Oh the pile of knits I could have completed during boring lectures…. With jellybean my knitting time is limited so I definitely relished this time to knit peacefully.

Happy Knitting!

Stripes Of Fun

I’m addicted!

This yarn is dreamy and wonderful! My conference vanilla socks are growing. I did not know what to expect with this yarn as the colors appear to be random. It’s such potato chip knitting as I can’t wait to keep knitting to find out the next color!

For those with inquiring minds this is Wisdom Yarn’s Saki Bamboo in crayon box. I’m two inches past the heel and considering starting the ribbing early to negate the “slouch” factor of the bamboo with the pulling in that ribbing gives you. But I just can’t decide. These are the conundrums you have when making up the knitting as you go, lol!

Happy Knitting!

Halfway FO Friday: Marble Picasso Socks

One complete sock with heel for this week!

I started this sock a couple of weeks ago during my Marathon Work Training Week. Boy was it nice to have knitting to keep me awake!

The yarn is creating a nice fabric.  It’s Premier Yarn Serinity Sock from Deborah Norville in Picasso Marble. It was on clearance at Joanns awhile back for $2 a skein. It’s 50% merino, 25% bamboo, and 25% nylon in what I say is a light fingering. It feels soft knitted up but I’m hoping the nylon makes it hard wearing. Now I’ve just gotta get going on sock #2!

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Maple Vanilla Socks

Yay for finished socks!!! My Maple Vanilla socks are done….

Pattern: an iteration of my 74 stitch toe-up vanilla sock

Yarn: Knit Picks Felici in Maple Leaves

Needles: US 1 (8 in circular)

Definitely two fraternal socks but adorable none the less. I like how the ribbing hugs my ankle and keeps the sock from slouching. I will have to see how they wear but for now they are going into the sock drawer. It’s 90+ degrees of humid heat here in Kansas, lol. Not much call for wool socks!

Happy Knitting!

So Close Yet So Far!

My lunch-time knitting seems to be progressing at a glacial pace but really I know that I’m so close!

I’m past the heel lifeline and four stripes into the leg ribbing on my Maple Vanilla socks. My internal goal is to get one stripe worked in the ribbing each work day. I think I need 13 total so I should be able to knock that out. I just keep reminding myself that a few stitches here and there really do add up!

Happy knitting!!

FO Friday: Rainbow Vanilla Socks

Another pair of socks for the drawer!

My rainbow vanilla socks are finished! I started out not loving these but they grew on me. My only regret now is that I wish I had tightened up the ribbing. I feel a bit like these might slouch, time will tell.

Pattern: My own toe up 70 stitch vanilla sock with afterthought heel

Yarn: Knit Picks Stroll Handpaints in County Fair

Needles: US 1s

Onward Second Socks

The chaos of a 9 month old Jellybean who is teething combined with changing jobs has left me with very little knitting bandwidth. Hence my crazy vanilla sock mojo. I’ve managed to cast off the first sock of a couple pair of WIP socks!

Vanilla Maple socks

Checkerboard Socks

I kind of tired of both of them and cast off before using up all the yarn as I usually do. They have 5-6 inch legs instead of 7-8 that I can usually get out of my skeins. But they still fit and are perfectly functional socks.

I made sure to cast on both second socks so as not to fall victim to SSS (second sock syndrome). I’m already done with the toe of the checkerboard socks but still working on the increases on the vanilla maples. I’m ready for these to be done and move on to other smooshy yarn!

Happy Knitting

What’s On My Needles #10

One vanilla rainbow is in the books!

The colors have grown on me. And the sock fits like a dream. The yarn made a  nice dense fabric that should be warm this winter. I just wish more of the rainbow had popped. It does peek out here and there.

 The heel…
The toe….

I’ll give more stats on this sock once I finish this second. I’m just too tired from chasing jellybean these days. Excuses, excuses I know. I can tell I’m already going to have lots of leftovers, lol. Here is the start of the second sock.

Happy knitting!
