Chicken Breasts

My second Emotional Support Chicken now has a prominent…..chest….

I am working on a deadline so it feels great to make it past all these short rows. I don’t mind short rows in garter since they just disappear. But man, it is a lot of counting. I need to find the contrast color and get started on the chicken’s neck. I did make one modification, I didn’t crochet the tail together and I chose to three needle bind off them together.

Turns out I will still have leftovers from this chicken as well. I was sort of hoping to use up this stash so a third franken chicken might be in order….

Four Ounces Of Singles

I was stuck in a four hour public meeting on Zoom and I decided to focus on the SSK2024 singles that are on my Sparrow e-wheel.

I filled the bobbin without really managing the color thinking too hard. I didn’t put any of the same colors back to back was my only rule.

And I love these 3D printed bobbins bc I can see all the layers of the singles like a little cake all laid out. Safe to say that four ounces fits easily on one of these bobbins but not much more. I need to do some noodling what do next with these singles, I just kinda started spinning with no plan and now all of the singles are on one bobbin….

Happy Spinning!!

Chicken #2 Tail Feathers

The rear end of Emotional Support Chicken #2 is done and now I’m moving into the body.

I have been weighing my handspun as I go to make sure I won’t run out. I thought it might be prudent as I’m using up the partial skeins from my first one. I am progressing well far and shouldn’t have play “yarn chicken”. I think the pun applies well to this project!

Nailed It (So Far)

I am trying to dust off my WIPs to clear them out for the 2025 Pigskin Party KAL. No WIPs allowed in that. Today I pulled out the Crown Town Hat and installed the KC into the main body.

The pattern called for duplicate stitch and I’m rubbish at that. So I decided to double down and work stranded colorwork. I simply left LONG loops and moved the blue yarn back to the beginning of the row. I’ll cut those later and weave in both ends.

I think I did not so bad! Blocking will do a world of good for this. I feel like this hat is going to be shallow so I might add a few rows after the KC to make sure this will fit my dad. I hope I don’t regret my decision, lol.

Spinning Progress: SSK 2024

The fact that this wheel is compact and sits on my desk has definitely made it easier to spin more consistently.

I have managed to get through four or five little bumps of fiber so far. I need to pre-draft most of them as they have been smushed up in a bag for over a year. And I have been able to spin fairly thinly so far. I am still learning this wheel and it’s process. It may take us a while to get to know each other.

Happy Spinning!!

Cast On: Emotional Support Chicken #2

I am still feeling the mojo for the Emotional Support Chickens. I decided to cast on #2 with the opposite colors of #1.

This cream color handspun is much more consistent than the darker color I from the last one. I am hoping I will get a more consistent fabric? This chicken will be for Aunt Barb, who helped me make jam this year, to give to her best friend who loves chicken. I am on a bit of time crunch as this ladies birthday is coming up so I need to get knitting!

2025 Jelly Season

Yesterday’s juice is today’s jelly!

It was a marathon afternoon and the house got to 75 degrees. But the juice turned out to be great jelly and we only had to make two trips to the grocery store. We had one batch that was soft set but otherwise both kinds set up well.

This is 23 pints of jelly and 30.5 half pints. I shared some with my aunt and my dad and still stocked my pantry stores. I still need to make a batch of cherry jam and can some more tomato sauce.

Happy Canning!!

Grape Harvest

My dad hand picked some grapes from the family farm. I forgot to grab pics of the grapes before we did the cook and crush. But the juice is GORGEOUS!

I got this cooked and filtered and ready to turn into jelly. I think we are going to clear the decks tomorrow and do a big jelly cook. I still have my apple juice in the freezer as well. All I need is a metric poop ton of sugar and lots of boxes of pectin.

Happy Canning!!

A Finished Emotional Support Chicken

The Emotional Support Chicken is complete!

Pattern: Emotional Support Chicken by Annette Corsino (Rav Link)

Needles: US 7s

Yarn: My own handspun and commercial scraps

My eyeball placement could use work but I think it adds character. I ended up using up 200 grams of yarn on this project. Which didn’t use up the handspun. I think I have enough left to reverse the colors and make a second chicken. Aunt Barb wants one for her friend.

This chicken is going to my office and I think I will let my team give it a name. It’s a rough go in local government and we could use all the support we can get!

Happy Knitting!!

Almost A Chicken

The emotional support chicken now has a beak!

I ended up finding some Malabrigo singles in a bright yellow from my hat leftover stash. I held it single and I kind wish I had held it double. Might try that on the next version. I also grabbed some red leftovers of Cashloft from the hat leftovers as well.

I just need to knit the chest piece and sew everything up! Happy Knitting!!
