FO: Emotional Support Chicken #2

Emotional Support Chicken #2 is done and stuffed!

Pattern: Emotional Support Chicken by Annette Corsino (Rav link)

Yarn: My own (early) handspun

Needles: US 7s

Mods: None

This finished chicken used up just slightly over 200 grams of handspun yarn. I have a nice size chunk of the cream left and a tiny knob of the brown. I think the finished chicken looks nice but is a little body heavy. It was interested to stuff compared to the first one. I ended up using more stuffing to create a more balanced chicken.

PB has named this one Ruby and she is a little harder to find a nice pose. But I am getting ready to box her up and send her to Aunt Barb.

Dare I knit a 3rd chicken? Happy Knitting!!

Finished: Crown Town Hat

This is my finished Crown Town Hat!

Pattern: Crown Town Hat by Carina Spencer (Rav Link)

Yarn: TreasureGoddess Merino Sport Treasures is Poseidon’s Trident and Making Waves

Needles: US 5s

Mods: So many. I knit the colorwork backwards, I added unnecessary rows to the main body, I worked the KC as stranded colorwork, and I decreased at a faster rate to mitigate the elongated body.

It really turned out okay-ish. It is just a big hat. Which should be fine since my dad has a big head. The finished hat used just over 200 yards of yarn between the two colors and the finished hat weighs 75 grams.

I do think I will attempt a second one to see if I can get it right and follow all the rules this time. Sometimes you win and sometimes you learn!

Happy Knitting!!

Finished: 2025 Conference Hat

In addition to working my Crown Town Hat, I also grabbed my Conference 2025 Hat to finish. Felt fitting to finish this at a conference. I really didn’t have much left to do, just a little hat body and then the crown decreases.

I didn’t blog much about this one. It has been my work backpack knitting for the last several months. A few stitches here and then and finally wrapping up in a days long conference had this done.

Pattern: My own 88 stitch beanie “recipe”

Yarn: Malabrigo Rios in Ankara Green

Needles: US 8s

I used roughly 80 grams or 168 yards of yarn to finish this hat. It finished out and blocked out to be a nice adult medium to large ish hat. I just need to install a label on this one and put in my hat stash. And pick out my next skein of yarn for my next backpack project.

Happy Knitting!!

Decreasing While Conferencing

Okay, I have regrets. I definitely added more rows in the body of my Crown Town Hat that I should have. This hat is looking…..big….

I attended a women’s conference this week and tried to finish my hat WIPs sitting in big ballrooms. My Royals hat was first up and I finished the “crown” colorwork. I still have the crown decreases to finish and that is also going to add length. So this will be an adult LARGE hat. Sigh….I should have not listened to my anxiety and followed the pattern.

Good news, I have enough yarn I think I can make a second hat. Then I can fix the inside and backwards words/colorwork and then make the right size.

Mildly Happy Knitting!!

A Flat Chicken

Emotional Chicken #2 has reached flat chicken status.

I really like this mix of colors for this version. The red and yellow especially pop against the cream. I do think I possibly messed up the breast section. This chicken looks a lot deeper and rounder than my first one.

I still need to knit the bottom piece and do a lot of seaming. And procure more poly-fil as I used up my stash on the first chicken. That bag lasted me more years than I care to admit. I’m interested to see if new or better options exist now!

Happy Knitting!!

Okay, But More Singles

Happy Labor Day to those that observe.

I did some noodling and decided that I am going to combine my SSK 2024 fiber minis with my SSK2025 fiber minis. This would give me 12 ounces of fiber in total to work with. I am thinking considering a three ply or possibly a 2 ply that alternates which bobbing I am pulling from.

This second bag of eight ounces, I did a wee bit more planning. I laid the minis out and sorted them into basically warm and cool color families. It was not a perfect system as I did have to do some mixing to get the ounces to be two equal four ounce portions.

Now to get these started on my wheel! Happy Spinning!!
