Interrupted Knitting

I am making decent enough progress on my purse knitting, which is my Emotional Support Socks. I was working on them and set them down to grab some water. Only to come back to find Duke using them as a pillow. I didn’t have the heart to move him.

I have this goal of getting these socks finished before the Christmas holiday. I am just ready to move on to another skein of pretty yarn. Maybe even something in a heavier weight like sport or DK?

But that probably means I need to keep the pup off them and they would get done faster! Happy Knitting!!

Advent Progress

This photo is a few days old but I wanted to show off this gorgeous advent yarn. I think this is day 5? I have also increased both sets of socks from my standard 68 stitches to 72 stiches as my gauge has tightened a bit this year.

The pair on the left is the 2023 KirbyWirby advent skein that is Friends themed. Each day comes with a quote from a character that lines up with the shade. I find them exceptionally fun and its nice to have a chuckle every evening.

The pair on the right is the 2023 Coxy Knitter advent skein. This one has slightly thicker stripes even though I am using the same stitch count and the same size needles. I am betting these will be taller socks. The back to back greens did get my old eyes. I knit these at night and it can be hard to see when the new color starts. But I LOVE the project they are making.

Ready To Advent….Again

I am getting this advent project in by the wire! I finished the toes of my Cozy Knitter 24 stripe advent socks. Now I just need to catch up to the days! I purchased a coordinating mini skein from the dyer for the toes and heels and this is a lovely shade of creamy white. I could also do the cuffs in it, but I don’t like my socks that tall. These will get pretty tall after 24 stripes!

I now have two sets of advent socks on the go for this holiday season. My other pair is from KirbyWirby and is Friends themed, which feels extra special this year given current events.

Can I keep up, lol?

Prepping For Advent

Advent season is almost upon on us and it’s time to prep. After several years of trying different advents I have found that the 24 stripe sock skeins work best for me. I LOVE the mini skein advents but I struggle to use them and I have still have two full sets sitting in my stash.

This is KirbyWirby’s 2023 advent self striping sock. She chose a Friends theme this year and each stripe comes with a coordinating quote from a Friends character. I also opted to buy the coordinating mini for toes and heels.

I am working toe up vanilla socks with an afterthought heel. I got two heels knit up and on my 9 inch circulars. Now come December 1st, I am ready to work the first stripe. The dyer was super organized and marked where my skeins started in the sequence. I am starting on Day 11 instead of Day 1. No matter to me as I will still work all 24 stripes.

I wound up the yarn into two balls so I can work both socks. The smaller ball has two full repeats in it. The larger one must have an extra repeat? We will see when we get there!

P.S……I have two sock advents this year! Whoops 🙂

Waiting and Knitting

Knitting is a great tool for waiting in those long lines waiting for Thanksgiving grocery pickups. This is where my Emotional Support sock left off after my mandatory online training last week.

I really want to get this sock finished up quickly so that I can get the toes started for my Advent Socks. I have two Christmas advent sock sets coming this year. One from KirbyWirby that is Friends themed and the 2023 version from the Cozy knitter.

I want to get the toes done for all four socks so I can start with the sock knitting on December 1st. The other challenge is to find enough sock needles to get these all on at once!

Park Toes

Mother Nature gave us a beautiful fall day on the same weekend the stomach bug rolled around our house. After the kiddos felt a little bit better we meandered over to a local park to get some sun and fresh air. The kids were still tired but had a great time collecting leaves and acorns as “treasure” and I got some knitting time in.

I got the second toe started on my Emotional Support Socks and drank a rare Coca Cola in the warm sun. I really want to get the fiddly bits done on the toe as I have some all day training on Zoom coming up and this would make great pass the time knitting. I knit the first sock on the FlexiFlips so I guess I will also do for the second? Better to not tempt the gauge gods….

A Warm Sock

My first Emotional Support Sock is complete thanks to a long weekend in Missouri wine country. I only made a few mistakes that I had to rip back after a glass or two of wine. These were perfect to work on beside the outdoor fire with a sparkling glass of wine!

Before the trip I did end up weighing my yarn and the sock together to find “half” so I could break the yarn and have roughly an equal amount for sock #2. This sock is my own recipe for a toe up vanilla sock with a gusset heel. I use 68 stitches and the Wendy Johnson heel pattern.

It’s a great fit in the foot and heel and a teensy bit tight in the leg. I have had some swelling from getting back into competitive volleyball and also all the walking on my trip. I’m hoping a return to a healthy diet and some extra water will help flush everything out!

P.S. This was my first fire of the season and I am SO EXCITED!!

Super Pup and Sock Legs

Jellybean and I had some time to kill this week whilst PB was sporting. So he had MarioKart on the Switch and I stopped to admire Emotional Support Socks.

I took PB to see the Paw Patrol Mighty Pups in theatre. I had just re-joined in the round when the movie started. So one cartoon movie is roughly 1.75 inches worth of sock knitting. The movie was not my cup of tea but PB was in rapture. She is now running around the house pretending to be Skye.

I think I will add another 1.25 inches of stockinette leg before I start the ribbing. These socks are calling for some decent ribbing so maybe another 2-3 inches? I love making free form socks and when I’m not stuck to a pattern.

Socks On A Driveway

The crisp air has finally arrived! The kiddos were running up and down our sidewalk on scooters. So I grabbed a lawn chair and my Emotional Support Socks.

I have finished the foot and I’ve divided for the heel. I am going to put in Wendy Johnson’s gusset heel. I have been using it for years and found that it wears well and fits my foot shape.

My cake of yarn is still in great shape so I definitely have enough yarn for good sized socks. The yarn has been caked for a bit so it is noodly in a few places but that should block right out!

Cast On: Emotional Support Socks

To keep my needles warm, I cast on another pair of socks straight away after finishing my 2023 GFOA Socks. I went for an easy one and yarn that was already caked up. I had the full skein of BFL from 2020 AGirlandherwool advent calendar. Ravelry said I have 300+ yards left so that should be a good pair of socks!

I managed a wee toe cast on with FlexiFlip needles. I may switch to my 9 inch circulars after a bit. But I do find I like the flexible DPNs for cast ons.

Fall golf lessons have started for Jellybean so I get 3 hours a week of patio knitting while he golfs. Win win!
