Finished: Crown Town Hat

This is my finished Crown Town Hat!

Pattern: Crown Town Hat by Carina Spencer (Rav Link)

Yarn: TreasureGoddess Merino Sport Treasures is Poseidon’s Trident and Making Waves

Needles: US 5s

Mods: So many. I knit the colorwork backwards, I added unnecessary rows to the main body, I worked the KC as stranded colorwork, and I decreased at a faster rate to mitigate the elongated body.

It really turned out okay-ish. It is just a big hat. Which should be fine since my dad has a big head. The finished hat used just over 200 yards of yarn between the two colors and the finished hat weighs 75 grams.

I do think I will attempt a second one to see if I can get it right and follow all the rules this time. Sometimes you win and sometimes you learn!

Happy Knitting!!

Decreasing While Conferencing

Okay, I have regrets. I definitely added more rows in the body of my Crown Town Hat that I should have. This hat is looking…..big….

I attended a women’s conference this week and tried to finish my hat WIPs sitting in big ballrooms. My Royals hat was first up and I finished the “crown” colorwork. I still have the crown decreases to finish and that is also going to add length. So this will be an adult LARGE hat. Sigh….I should have not listened to my anxiety and followed the pattern.

Good news, I have enough yarn I think I can make a second hat. Then I can fix the inside and backwards words/colorwork and then make the right size.

Mildly Happy Knitting!!

Nailed It (So Far)

I am trying to dust off my WIPs to clear them out for the 2025 Pigskin Party KAL. No WIPs allowed in that. Today I pulled out the Crown Town Hat and installed the KC into the main body.

The pattern called for duplicate stitch and I’m rubbish at that. So I decided to double down and work stranded colorwork. I simply left LONG loops and moved the blue yarn back to the beginning of the row. I’ll cut those later and weave in both ends.

I think I did not so bad! Blocking will do a world of good for this. I feel like this hat is going to be shallow so I might add a few rows after the KC to make sure this will fit my dad. I hope I don’t regret my decision, lol.

Happy Knitting!!

Joining Crown Town Brim

I am finally done being annoyed with the mistakes I made on the Crown Town hat and I decided to finish the brim.

I am not sure I counted correctly as the fold doesn’t look even but on theme with this hat, I am moving on. I need to work in the round and then start the next section. I feel rebellious and I want to add the next part in colorwork instead of duplicate stitch. I mean, what else can I screw up on this hat?

Happy Knitting!!

Well, That’s Backwards

Guess what this knitter forgot? You gotta work color work charts left to right and not the other way round.

My Crown Town Hat inner brim is done but the letters are backwards. Sigh. So the letters are right side up in the wrong order. Rooking mistake! So, am I going to rip this out? No…I plan to keep going and test how my long floats fit in the finished hat. I will try this hat again to get it correct. And by then I will know if I left enough slack to make a nicely fitting hat.

This hat will be a keeper or go to someone who likes a little unintentional design feature. And now I know how to not mess the other colorwork in the rest of the hat. Let’s see how that works out for me….

Happy Mistake Making!!
