A Plague Upon Our House

Having a tiny germ collecting human had yet again caught up with me. This past week has had me down with the flu. The honest to god fever, chills, body aches, coughing, snotty flu, I….was….miserable! Taking care of a 4 1/2 month old jellybean who simultaneously decided not to sleep for more than three hours at a stretch was all I could manage. I literally did not knit a stitch for 7 days and didn’t leave the house for 5.

The flu is no joke this year! And I even got the flu shot but I hear it wasn’t terribly effective this go round. Thankfully jellybean only got a runny nose and wee cough. Thank god for breastmilk antibodies! So hopefully next week will bring me back to my fiber adventures. (Grandma and Grandpa are coming for the weekend…hallelujah! This momma needs a nap.)

I hope everyone else is in good health!

The Things No one Warns You About

This has pretty much been my life for the last month…

Lots of Kleenex, a baby with unpredictable sleep patterns, and slow progress on a pair of socks. Since Jellybean started daycare and I’ve been back to work I’ve managed to catch a sinus infection/ear infection combo, then the very unpleasant 24 hour flu that lasted 48 hours, and now finally a head cold that just lingers. No one warned me having a baby right before cold and flu season was a bad idea!

So we just take our days as they come: lots of snuggle time in steamy bathrooms, the dreaded snot sucker, and a boatload of Kleenex. The only upside is that I should have a finished pair of socks by Christmas and to wrap up my year of Socks With Sarah!

P.s.
Dear Santa, all I really want for Christmas is for our new little family to be healthy for just a little while? Please and thank you!

Flu Hiatus

Well the family flu finally caught up with me. Halfway through the drive home from my parents….

I have pretty much been sleeping for the last 36 hours. Sorry for the impromptu hiatus. Hope to be back on my feet in the next day or so.

I’ve even been to sick to knit!

Back Up Plan Thanksgiving

Well, we made the trek to my hometown for a family thanksgiving yesterday. We have gorgeous 60-70 degree weather here in Kansas. It wa on course to be a great trip. Our plan was to have a nice meal with my parents and grandma as the rest of the extended family is out of town.

The best laid plans…..

Both my parents woke up this morning with the flu. My dad had been up and down all night with an upset stomach. So we implemented plan b: lunch at grandmas with just the three if us!

We had turkey (slow roasted and carved into a crock pot)

We had potatoes and gravy (all home grown from the family garden)

And of course delicious rolls made by my mother before she got sick

Mmmmmm Thanksgiving!

I am truly thankful for my life and those who are in it and all that I have. Today is for hanging with grandma and nursing mom and dad back to health.

And maybe a little knitting and football from the easy chair!
