Pardon My Sneezes

I have been obsessed with my Bluestem Beanie and it has been my all consuming project. I have forgotten how much mohair fuzzes and creates floaties. I find myself with mohair on my clothes and tickling my nose/eyes. To the point my kids asked me why I was sneezing!

Since this weekend, I have knit the 6 inches of stockinette and started in with the patterning. I had to concentrate to set up the stitches but once I was established then I can knit it almost without looking.

I do have to be careful to catch both plies. I found a couple of stitches where I didn’t grab the mohair. And thus far I have been pleased with the mohair as far as staying tangle free and being able to pull back mistakes. And the feel of this finished fabric is DEVINE! I will definitely work this combo again.

The Softest Cast On

I was feeling nostalgic this weekend and pulled a hat kit out of my stash. This pattern and yarn combo was sent to me by two very dear friends I never get to see.

The pattern is the Bluestem Beanie by Rebekah Lil and the yarn is a kit from Amber Waves Dye Studio. You hold yarn double to get worsted but the components are the Alpaca Cloud DK held with Kid Silk Fluff. So basically DK weight in alpaca with a silk/mohair laceweight.

This is the SOFTEST combo I have ever felt! I am really excited about this as a change of pace from my other hats. There are not very many projects on Ravelry so I will see how this tests out!

Fluff From Across The Pond

In the depths of my knitting ennui, I was week and fell down in the Stranded online yarn shop. I snagged two skeins of mohair and one skein of BFL sock in Jude’s Gloom colorway.

For awhile now I have been thinking of a nice lacy and light neutral colored wrap or shawl. The mohair would be effortlessly light and the greys would coordinate with most of my wardrobe. But I just need the gumption to pick a pattern and actually knit the darn thing.

So Much Sparkle

I found out one of my favorite podcasts/yarn stores has decided to close their brick and mortar operations. Mind you, they are in New Jersey and I have never been in person. But I feel like I know them after watching hours and hours of podcasts. I soothed my dismay by helping making a small purchase. I picked up a kit of sock yarn with coordinating mohair.

They even through in the tote bag as a special surprise! It is rose gold and super shiny. My children immediately tried to claim it.

The skein on the left is Chelsea Luxe Sock in the Rainbow Sherbet colorway. The yarn base is an 80/20 wool and nylon blend. The skein on the right is Chelsea Luxe Mohair in the Tube Top colorway. It is a 70/30 mohair and silk blend. I have no clue what they will grow up to be but I’m happy to support an LYS as they take their leap into 100% online shopping.
