Happy Mother’s Day To Me

My husband is a dear man. But he’s about as observant as the average knitting muggle. He has over the last 12 years taken an interest in my knitting and shown a great appreciation for my hobby. But he wouldn’t know sock yarn from bulky yarn if it hit him in the face.

I’ve been having a rough time at work adjusting to a lot of changes and new staff. It has left me drained by the time I get home. Mother’s day was approaching and it was a particularly bad day that had me window shopping on Etsy. I knew my husband hadn’t gotten me anything so I sent him an Etsy screenshot and said “I want this for Mothers Day”. It was a large project bag from Tannei Casey And he said ” buy it”. So I did…

It’s a wonderfully large bag made of some of the sturdiest material I have felt in a long time. The inside has two organization pockets and a box bottom.

The heavy canvas bottom might be my favorite thing! I need to clear my needles a bit of WIPs and then I can’t wait to get a project started that will live in this bag!

The Coupon Codes Get Me Every Time

Podcasts plus late night knitting plus a coupon code led me astray. I was watching the Grocery Girls and they were sent a coupon code from Bags by Awesome Grannie (I have one of her bags already and it is amazing) and I fell for it. I mean it was 20% off and I am itching to start my Charlotte Winter sweater and it needs a home right??

I picked up a sheepy themed sweater bag with a matching notions pouch. I checked and all my caked up bulky sweater yarn fits comfortably in this bag all at once. I’m pretty jazzed! Just don’t tell my hubby or my yarn savings account. I need to be saving up for Winter Woolfest in January!!

A New Bag

My memory sock yarn blanket had been living in the plastic packaging that some sheets had come in. At first I was happy with the see-through plastic bag that kept things nice and tidy with a zippered closure. But the bag now has seen better days and the blanket has grown to size that it doesn’t fit inside the bag with the scrap anymore.

So in a hormone fueled Etsy shopping incident, I may have procured a large project bag from Bags by Awesome Granny.

I went with a donut print and that may have been influenced by the never ending hunger that PB has foisted upon me as she packs on those last few baby ounces. But I think it’s pretty darn adorable regardless. And the pink lining makes me happy because who doesn’t love pink polka dots?

My folded blanket and scraps fit nicely inside, for now. This bag won’t see the project through to the end but it’s a 1,000% improvement from what I had. My blanket and scraps are both now safe from sticky three year old fingers. And the craftsmanship by Darlene is impeccable. This bag will hold many a project I’m sure in it’s tenure with me!

My First Suburban Stitcher

I have been watching the Surburban Stitcher podcast and Dianne Brown’s instagram now for awhile. I simply adore her stuff. But I have been trying to be more careful in managing my yarn purchases and limited splurges. But I had been saving some pennies for the Socktober KAL hosted by the Carolina Fiber Girls. And this year I wanted to knit/use some things from a sponsor. I appreciate when makers take the time to support each other. So used my stash money and picked up a bag and a skein of yarn…

I got the soda themed small zippered bag. I neglected to get a photo of the inside but it’s the totally adorable coordinating fabric you see on the wrist strap.

Then I chose this lovely bright greeny sock yarn in the Appletini colorway. It’s her sock base that is a light fingering made of 75% merino and 25% nylon. I’m not sure what this yarn will grow up to be. But for sure I’m using the bag to score some points in this year’s KAL!

Woolfest Goodies

Yesterday I talked about my trip to Woolfest and some wine tasting. Today I’m going to show you the goodies I picked up.

First, a set of Harry Potter inspired mini skeins from The Sexy Knitter. I have met Sarah in person several times now. She is such a bright and bubbly person and a blast to talk about knitting with. She has been putting one of a kind (OOAK) indie dyed mini skeins in her Etsy shop for awhile. I had resisted on Etsy but couldn’t pass them up in person. They are 25 yards each so I have roughly 100 yards here to add to my sock yarn memory blanket.

Next up is a sock blank from TreasureGoddess Yarn. I think this blank is made from her Treasured Toes sock base. And I have never knit from a blank before so I just couldn’t resist. I have knit with her Cashmere Super Toes before to make my Old Man of Storr shawlette. Which by the way, I was wearing that day and was able to show off to her. This blank definitely needs to be a pair of socks for me!

Lastly, but certainly not least…..I found a perfectly geeky project bag. In my house The Big Bang Theory is totally a thing. I watch re-runs almost every day to help block out the negativity that is permeating the world lately. This bag is from AuntStephsHndmdGifts on Etsy. She had all kinds of geek themed fabrics but this just HAD to come home with me. It’s large enough to hold socks, a shawl, or a child’s sweater. I’m so excited about this bag I can’t even decide what should go in here!

And there you have it…my haul from Woolfest 2017. I thought I was remarkably restrained given the high volume of yarn fumes!

Waste Not Want Not

Due to fits of KNIT ALL THE THINGS and a constant cast of cast-itis I’m always in need of project bags and yarn protection. I’m guessing this will become doubly important when Jellybean gets older/mobile/grabby lol!

As I was unpacking and washing baby gifts I had this plastic bag that housed two hooded baby bath towels. It was of a decent grade plastic and closed with easy snaps…

I just couldn’t hurl into the recycle bin with all the other packing material detritus. So when I cast on for Jellybean’s Candy Corn set yesterday I tucked my yarn into it.

It fit two of my three skeins of yarn. It open enough for yarn to feed out and to prevent dog hair and other dirt from grabbing on as I knit! Not to mention it’s clear and I can see the contents without opening. My grandparents always said “waste not want not” and I guess it stuck. This bag is just right for hats, gloves, socks, or other small projects. And it was free, to me at least.
