A Little Blanket Knitting

I loved the Lemonade Shop’s Stormy Day yarn so much that I couldn’t wait to add it to my memory blanket. I wanted to make sure I got my square done before I got started on the Rainbow mitts too.

I haven’t touched this in awhile and I kind of forgot how beautiful this blanket is. I have an itch to work on this, but it won’t earn me any points in the football KAL I’m playing in so I have kind of let it sit in my bag.

My better angels may win out and this may see some action this fall. Especially after I show you some mini madness I have earned. But that needs to be it’s own post. For now I’m going to pet my pretty blanket and snuggle under it.

FO Friday: Rainbow Pop Sockhead Slouch

My Rainbow Pop Sockhead Slouch is done, blocked and dry. I am just over the moon with how cool this yarn and pattern combo turned out!

This is how the hat looks with no folded brim. It’s very slouchy and accommodates a pony tail.

Pattern: Sockhead Slouch by Kelly McClure

Yarn: Lemondade Shop Simple Sock in Stormy Day. I used 76 grams or 304 yards of yarn for this hat.

Needles: US 2s. My gauge turned out to be 7.5 stitches and 11 rows to 1 inch.

And here is how it looks with a folded brim. I personally think this is how I’ll be wearing mine. It just looks so sharp!

I did get some pooling at the crown decreases but it’s very negligible. And if anyone gets that close to notice and point that out then I will just headbutt them. This project was soothing balm to my sleep deprived mommy soul. I almost want to cast on another one to have such a happy meditative knit in my bag.

The Memory Blanket Rides Again

While waiting for inspiration to strike….I pulled out my trusty memory blanket!

This just makes me so happy! I’m two squares away from squaring this off again. I don’t even care how hot this is on my lap while I knit, that’s how much I love this!

I did fall down the Etsy hole and may or may not have ordered a large project bag to contain this beast. Right now it lives in a plastic sheet set bag with the zipper that’s wearing out. I feel like something this beautiful deserves proper storage! I’ll share my bag once it gets here….teeehee….

Canadian Yarn

A dear dear friend sent me a quick note to expect a little surprise in my mailbox. We live across the country and once in awhile we tuck things into the mail to surprise each other. Okay….let’s be real…we are 30 something adults with careers and kids. We try to remember each other’s birthdays and end up sending packages 6 months later, lol.

Well, this yarny beauty showed up in my mailbox!

She claims this was a combination of late night Instagram skimming with wine plus the favorable US to Canadian exchange rate. But she thought I needed a pick-me-up skein of self-striping sock yarn. This is even a new to me dyer! I have seen the Cozy Knitter yarn on several podcasts and thought it was amazing. This is a Bliss sock set in “Celebrate the Night”. Jellybean was ecstatic that the contrasting heel/toe/cuff skein was purple. That’s his FAVORITE.

If my Smooth Operator Socks go well and fit like I hope then this skein may just well end up being SOS socks as well!

FO Friday: Daunt Cowl

My Daunt Cowl is finished! Thanks to my hubby and some play dates I had some kid free time to dedicate to this project.

Pattern: Daunt Cowl by Kino Knits

Needles: US 4s

Yarn: Scraps for the stripes and 1 skein Happy Feet Splash for the MC all for a total of 1,013 yards

Mods: Omitted the short rows and accidentally seamed into a möbius

Other than my fail of seaming while watching a 5 yo and 3 yo leading to a unintentional möbius cowl I’m SUPER pleased! The colors play nicely and it’s very warm around my neck. The rainbow makes me happy and actually the möbius makes it hang nicely as a single loop.

It feels really good to get this knit off the needles and to start 2018 in a good place. Happy Knitting!!

Happy Birthday To Me

My birthday came and went in a flurry of laundry and stomach flu woes. We have had some unseasonable weather her in the Midwest and it’s really reeking havoc on our immune systems….at least in this house.

Nonetheless, my husband asked for some birthday suggestions and I sent him some names of new-to-me yarn dyers that I would like to have something from. He picked Shannon of Mudpunch. She’s Canadian and I hear her mentioned on several Canadian podcasts I listen to. The hubby chose a speckle sock set in her Tundra/Desert colorway.

The yarn has a great hand and the lovely green colors are something I wouldn’t normally choose. I can decide if this needs to be a two color shawl or a pair of socks with contrasting heels/toes/cuffs. I’ve never done the later (on purpose anyway) and the former is still relatively new to me.

I think this yarn needs to ruminate in the stash for awhile! Happy Knitting!!

A Lucky Win

I have been playing along with the Down Cellar Studio 12 months to Christmas KAL. The wonderful BostonJen has been encouraging us all to knit ahead of the Christmas rush and she is drawing winners from the Ravelry thread. Guys…..I won this month!

I received the most kind note, a skein of spunky eclectic sock yarn, DCS pin and set of stitch markers. BostonJen runs a successful podcast and numerous KALs and her following is HUGE. So being picked a winner is quite a feat and I feel incredibly lucky. I can’t wait until I can cast this on!!

Yarn In The Rocky Mountains: Part 2

While toodling around Colorado Springs with my mom I found Ewe and Me a delightful shop full of color. Guys, this place was YARN HEAVEN. They had a larger store with a fantastic selection of yarn, two adorable shop dogs, and just two of the nicest owners you can hope for. I was totally high on yarn fumes.

I was fairly restrained though. I found another unique local dyer in Andromeda Yarn. As far as I can tell they only have an instagram account. But oh my I fell hard for this speckled delight! The color is called Settle My Nerves.

I even had the shop owner wind it right then and there. And I cast on some vanilla socks that night for movie theater knitting. The hubby took me to Despicable Me 3. I am so in love with the speckle trend!

I also picked up some work horse yarn for a pair of socks for my sister. It’s the Rainbow color in the Cascade Heritage Prints line.

This stop was so delightful I will make sure to get back here whenever I’m out in the Springs!

Anniversary Yarn

The hubby and I recently celebrated the big 1-0 wedding anniversary. We had a weekend away in Kansas City that involved BBQ, baseball and no 6 am toddler wake up call. He also told me to pick out a skein of yarn and he would buy it for souvenir yarn. (He knows the importance of such a thing.) Well we didn’t have any shops open nearby so of course I hit Etsy. I had seen that KirbyWirby had put a few OOAK skeins up and guys…..I grabbed one!

I got a prototype skein of her self-striping in the Unizebracorn color. This yarn will forever be anniversary yarn in my ❤️

Cuff Territory

My Antimuon Vanilla Socks have seen some decent progress this week. The stripes really are addicting!

I have started the cuff but I’m not sure how much taller I’m going to get. It may come down to yarn management. You can see my heel waist yarn in the light color. I know I want to start with a navy section right before a green stripe. Just to satisfy my own OCD. So I may knit the cuff until I get to that repeat. I’ll just have to see.
