MudPunch Always Gets Me

I once again was wooed by the siren song that is my email newsletters. I get the MudPunch email newsletter and I just couldn’t resist her shop.

I have really been feeling the sock mojo here lately so some self-striping felt just right. Do I have a three whole storage bags of sock yarn? Yes I do. Did I still buy this? Yes I did and I don’t regret it.

The pinky brown skein is outside my normal color zone but I’m excited to see how it works up. The yellow and blue skein is 1,000% in my zone as those are my high school alma mater colors and my current employer’s color scheme. I think these will go into the stash for a minute but I foresee them hitting the needles yet this year.

Happy Stashing!!

My Dad Accidentally Bought A Fiber Club

Ya’ll…my dad is so cute. He called me the other day and said “I keep getting your Christmas presents in the mail!”. So on a recent visit I took a look at what was coming in the mail. He didn’t realize he had purchased a fiber club subscription for my gift!

The February club is 100% cheviot and a DEEP violet color. This looks amazing and 1,000% sure it will let off dye when I wash it, lol. The March club is set of wonderful pinks and purples and is a polworth and silk blend. This will be VERY soft.

I guess with all my fiber additions this week, I need to get spinning!! Happy Spinning!!

Fiber Destash Score

Jude of Stranded Dyeworks recently destashed some of his personal stash in order to feel more incontrol of his stash and make sure these items are being used instead of stored. I stayed away for the first few days of the sale but I was weak when I noticed there was still fiber in the shop.

These are all new to me dyers and from top right around to the bottom they are:

  • Spotted Circus – 4 ounces and a blend of Alpaca and Nylon
  • Fondant Fibres – 4 ounces and a 80/20 blend of SW Merino and Nylon – this one is called Deep & Meaningful
  • Hipstrings – 4 ounces and a blend of Merino, Rambouillet and Nylon – this one is called The Unicorn in the Library

I have zero plans for this fiber. None of the fiber content really line up so I don’t see combining them. They will likely end up being spun with themselves and making cute one of skeins.

Happy Spinning!!

Gal’s Gifts

I firmly hold that one’s “gals” give the best gifts. I had the good fortune to bond very deeply with a work colleague who moved on to another City. And we developed quite the group chat with one of her new coworkers because we missed hanging out. We all three enjoy crafty things and each other’s senses of humor.

This lovely box was delivered to me from those two gals. Without asking they know exactly what to gift me.

This box contained many yummy chocolates and two full sock sets from Amber Waves of Fiber. The color is called “Santa’s Workshop” and the content is 80% merino, 10% cashmere and 10% nylon. I have enough yarn for a large shawl or multiple socks. I need to meditate on what this yarn wants to grow up to be.

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Pink Merino Sparkly 2-ply

My tiny 85 gram batt of shedding merino and sparkle is finally complete and done leaving a trail of fluff in my house! I have a finished Pink Merino Sparkle 2-ply to show for it!

I ended up with an 84 gram skein that made 88 yards. So I lost very little of the original batt despite the fluffy shedding. This skeins is a little inconsistant. Some parts were worsted at 9 wraps per inch and other sections were closer to 11 wraps per inch which is more DK weight.

Still, I’m happy with the skein. I don’t know what I will make with it as it sheds. But for now it will join the precious handspun stash. Now its time to make Christmas cookies!!! Bring on Christmas break 🙂

Happy Spinning!!

Fiber Flurry

I set aside some time this past weekend to attend a new and new to me fiber festival. It was a little bit of a hike for me, over an hours drive but I persisted. It was called Fiber Flurry and when I arrived I only found 5 vendors. So that was a little disappointing but they also had a burrito truck outside which helped heal my soul.

The small number of vendors didn’t stop me from buying some new stuff. I’ll line out what what I purchased on a different day. But it was a few bits and bobs to tuck into Christmas packages and mostly fiber to spin with.

Mostly, it was a lovely afternoon to myself with no office work and no domestic labor. I even stopped off at my favorite winery for a glass (or two) of mulled win. And I felt pretty cheeky because my curls were on point!

Happy Self Care and let’s get this week started right!

Themes On A Color Story

I saved up some fun money and managed to blow it all in one place, lol. I fell down in Hannah of The Corner of Craft’s shop update last month.

The two skeins on the left are BFL DK in a variegated purple called Metagaming Pigeon, the pink skein is a sparkle sock in the Net of Shadows colorway and finally the darkest skein is another BFL DK skein in Gift for Lolth. I also couldn’t resist the hand beaded project marker because avocado is one of my favorites.

Full disclosure, I have zero plans for any of this yarn. I really should pull out all of my Chromatic Yarn stash to see what I have amassed so far. At this point I could probably make a whole blanket with just this dyer, lol.

Happy Stashing!!

Gratuitous Handspun – Deep Regret 2-ply

Another skein of handspun has joined the stash! This merino tencel blend absolutely flew off my wheel. I had prepared this roving into little nestlets and managed fairly thin singles. All in all I think this was managed across four or five days.

I spun two bobbins and with my “go-to” 2ply approach which resulted in a sport weight with some light worsted spots. Super super super happy with this one! The 2-ply was 150 yards of yarn over 113 grams with really lovely barber poling.

My bobbins weren’t quite even and I had a little leftover so I chain plied the remainder into a teeny tiny 3-ply skein. Its 8 yards over 10 gram so a little heftier skein but gorgeous nonetheless.

Now I just need to plot my next spin! Happy spinning!!

Handmade Batts

My indie dyer obsession with Moonstone Dyeworks continues. She got a drum carder and now makes batts to sell.

They are unique blends that she decides to pull together from her bulk fiber. I picked out a lovely blue color in a rambioullet/merino/bamboo/nylon mix. The second bat is rambioullet/merino/sari silk/nylon blend. Both bats are 2 ounces and will make cute small skeins of yarn.

I still have my blue BFL on my wheel with lots of spinning to go yet. So I don’t know when either of these will hit the wheel but I feel it won’t take long when my wheel frees up!

Happy Spinning!!

Mystery Grab Bag

Back around Christmas time I grabbed some mystery grab bag fiber from Etsy to have for Santa to leave in my stocking. And Santa ended up leaving me some yarn instead of fiber and I kinda forgot about this tucked away in my closet until I did some spring cleaning.

On the left is some mystery fiber that looks to have a blend of silk, nylon and maybe a couple of different kinds of wools based on the wool crimp. I weighed it and it totals 3 ounces. The right is 8.5 ounces of a spinning kit from Melissa’s Yarn Barn. It is a solid merino braid and some locks of multi-colored wool or other fiber.

Both are interesting kits and not something I would usually pick for myself. But it adds nice variety to my spinning stash. Even if I don’t love the colors I will learn new things from the spinning process. Do any of you mystery grab bag?
