My Frankenstein Hat is done so I grabbed the next skein in my bag of worsted skeins.
I am back on the broken record of a folded brim on a stockinette hat. This is some “free to a good home” yarn from SSK. It’s a Lion Brand Wool Ease Tweed and its a little thicker than my Malabrigo yarns so its a denser hat at the same stitch count and needle size. It’s also not as soft but should wear well.
School is back to business so I have a lot of car time again. So this knitting is mobile!
I am in a long stretch of evening meetings so my SSK Tweed Hat has been traveling with me. Turns out that even with thinner yarn that when you actually work on knitting it grows faster! I am making a decent dent with the body.
I need to dig around in my needle stash and see if I can find some DPNs for the crown decreases. US 5s aren’t something I work a ton so I might have to dig deep.

After many many worsted weight hats, this sport weight hat seems like it takes forever! But my SSK Tweed Hat has reached the main hat body.
I’m using US 5 needles and for this gauge, 112 stitches. I really had zero interest in ribbing that many stitches so I worked in stockinette. It might be the same thing over and over again but I find it soothing. And I still have a bag full of yarn that wants to be more hats!
Side note, I asked my son to bring me my purse. He replied, “which one? Your regular purse or your knitting purse?”. I kinda love that he thinks my knitting bag is another purse!

Made it to the finish line on my second set of Teacher Fingerless gloves! Not in time before school was out, but they still make a lovely gift.
All the Christmas hubbub is dying down and I managed to snuggle down last night and crank out the second mitt since we had nowhere to be. A single mitt takes me my full post-kiddo bedtime time.
I made these in the 48 stitch count which is Adult Large. I didn’t see much difference between these and the adult medium. Maybe two stitches per inch? The large size used 120 yards of yarn on US5s. I didn’t mess with smaller needles for the ribbing, I couldn’t be bothered.
This pattern is in my brain now and I am having the craving to make a set of these in my black handspun to put with my new winter dress coat…. so that may need to be a New Years cast on.

After emptying my wheel this week I decided to start my next set of singles. I am still working through the inherited fiber I received when I decided to start spinning. This is some mystery alpaca fiber that appears to contain white tweed blips.
This fiber is spinning pretty quickly and fairly consistently. I can tell my muscle memory is getting better as I am better able to look up from my hands for short periods now. Which really helps me pay better attention to my TV shows, lol.
I only have 4 ounces of this fiber so I see this project going very quickly. I think I will play to 2-ply this yarn back on itself again. I really like the yarn I am getting from this method. And I might be amazing enough 2-ply alpaca skeins that I could make larger project!

I admit I am struggling to get fully into the holiday spirit. I knew I wanted a Christmas Eve cast on but I just couldn’t decide what I wanted it to be. So I decided to make up a kit from stuff I already had. And it worked out nicely
I pulled out last year’s Christmas pajamas and I’m just praying they fit after my COVID weight gain. And then I grabbed a bottle of wine off my wine rack that I have been meaning to try.
Next up was the yarn and pattern I received as part of my 2020 Nomad Yarns retreat back in October. I grabbed the Transforming Mitts pattern by Erika Kempf Broughton and the yarn of Tweed Rocks from Nomad Yarns. It feels good to use this yarn with the pattern it was designed for.
It’s not the perfect AHA project I have had in years past. But it’s good enough for 2020. And I mostly can’t wait to put the world aside and just watch Christmas through my children’s eyes. We are going to “bubble” with my parents and isolate from the world on their property. All I want for Christmas is knitting, a good wine and not to be the primary adult for a little bit.

Christmas is almost upon us and I am once again preparing my family’s Christmas eve boxes! Mostly I get everyone in the family a new set of pajamas and special treat for Christmas eve. I like being able to open an early present. So I wanted to give you a sneak peak inside mine. (My box includes a special Christmas Eve cast on!)
I have a brand spanking new pair of Christmas pajamas, a bottle of wine, and brand new knitting project to start. This year I chose the Arya Shawl by Ambah O’Brien. It’s a two color shawl worked up in DK weight. And I just so happen to have those two coordinating skeins of Chubbs and Squeak in tweed DK from my Portland trip. It seemed just like kismet. Now I just have to wait for Santa to get here!!
