Casting Off Synthe

Spring break travel was just the concentrated time I needed to get through the body of my Synthe sweater. I am casting off now!

We took a couple of days this past week to see my sister in Colorado. Not a bad way to work over 300+ stiches on my needles. The views did not disappoint! I did decide to add some length to the body not contemplated in the pattern. I didn’t want the sweater to end at my widest part.

I’m really hoping I don’t regret the extra length post blocking. My swatch didn’t grow terribly but I have been fooled by swatches before!

Cast On: Luminous Hat

We are gearing up for travel, spring sports and lots of time in the backyard. I also need to start earning points for SSK 2025. This all added up to a new cast on!

I grabbed my new square needles and a skein of Another Crafty Girl Merino Worsted in Luminous color to start my basic beanie recipe. It’s 88 stitches on a US 8. If I can get this done then I can earn points for my knitting retreat this summer.

I am liking the square needles. I don’t know that my hands get any less tired but they do feel nice in my fingers. This project is going to live in my purse/backpack for “in between knitting” needs.

Happy Knitting!!

Synthe Body

I am in the slog of the body of my Synthe. But I have made measurable progress!

I am several skeins in now and have zero fear of running out as I have 12 in my stash. I will definitely have yarn leftover unless I make this a dress. I have added one rounds worth of increase and totally ignoring the pattern. I don’t want an A-line shape as its not flattering on me. But I also don’t want negative ease either.

It’s my plan to work in three total increase rounds before the hem for a gentle increase to fit my hips, which are larger than my bust. This sweater is still incredibly light with this woolen spun yarn. Should end up warm and lightweight!

Half Of My Advent Skeins

I decided not to wait until to spin the last half of the 2024 advent spinning calendar to ply the first half. I call it spinners prerogative.

I chain plied these singles to maintain the colors. I think overall I got a heavy worsted that is mostly uniform with some thick/thin spots. I was worried about the colors being too crazy but I think they came our mostly rainbow, in a good way.

My singles were just a tiny bit overspun and a bath washed that right out. The finished skein was 181 grams and 212 yards of yarn. I am going to tuck this into the spinning bag where my other half of the fiber for motivation to finish the rest!

Happy Spinning!!

Finished: Frankenstein Hat #3

I blinked and the Frankenstein Hat #3 is finished!

I only ended up using three scraps total. I should have probably used another the hat is wee bit short but still fits a small adult head. I really blocked it aggressively to get more size to it and it only worked slightly. I did use under 100 grams or just at 200 yards. This is less than my previous scrappy Musselburgh hats, so I should have known.

On the plus side, one side turned out in a solid color! That makes it feel more intentional for some reason. I don’t know if this will be a keep or go into the gift pile. I think I will let it marinate for a bit.

Happy Knitting!

The Perfect Morning

I hid from my children and adult responsibilities this morning. I couldn’t sleep in on my appointed day to sleep in. So I improvised. I grabbed a protein shake, homemade cinnamon roll I baked, HOT coffee and my latest project: Frankenstein Hat #3 and my book club book.

This book is SO ADDICTING. It took a minute to get used to this author and his chapters. And the characters are so spellbinding that I quite literally can’t put it down. Book club isn’t for two weeks and this book will be done well in advance of that.

I was so captivated that I only got a few rows on my hat. I did finish the increases and the whole thing is on a circular needle. So that feels like an accomplishment right?

Happy Knitting and Reading!!

Cast On: Frankenstein Hat #3

I had the itch to clear out some more scraps the other day. It’s getting a little more interesting to dig through my bag of leftovers and find cohesive coordination. I mulled my options and went with yellows, oranges and reds.

I am working the Musselburgh style pattern though I am not bothering with stitch counts or gauge. This hat will be what it will be and it will fit someone. I always dislike the tiny cast on and messing with so many needles in a small area but it always works.

I did use my darning needle to close up the cast on hole while it was this little. I hope future Rachelle thanks me! Happy Knitting!!

Dog For Cuteness

I don’t really have any updates today. It’s a dreary cold winter Monday morning and I’m struggling to find ambition. Yearning for some sunshine and longer days!

So I decided to just share a cute photo of my baby dog loving on me while I was knitting my Chiefs Hat #7. He was dreaming and snoring and living his best life. Not a bad leg warmer for me either! I would be lost without my puppers….

Happy Monday!

Chiefing Along

I have had singular focus the past couple of days on this Chiefs Hat #7. I’m already fully chugging through the main hat body

I did stop and install/sew on the patch for the brim. Also weaving in the ends for the color changes on the inside! I hope future Rachelle really enjoys the work that past Rachelle did for her, lol.

Just a few more rows of yellow to get to 20 rows and then I will install the decrease in the final red color stripe. My yarn cakes are shrinking rapidly so I am hoping I get all the way there!

Happy Knitting!!

Finished Friday: 2025 Chiefs Hat

The 2025 Chiefs Hat is done and fully complete with the decal installed!

Pattern: My own vanilla “recipe” for a beanie with 72 stitches (because I can’t count) with a folded stockinette brim

Needles: US 8s

Yarn: Malabrigo Worsted in Sauterne and Sealing Wax

For sure this hat is snugger and smaller than my standard adult hat. It can fit over my large noggin but I can feel the squeeze. And that showed in the yardage used with a total of 189 yards of yarn. I think that is like 0.9 of a full skein so I for sure will be fine for my second hat with this yarn.

Happy Knitting!!
