FO Friday: Half Double Crochet Dosh Cloth Set

I needed a simple and quick project for an impromptu zoom knit night. Normally I would grab socks but I got a wild hair and grabbed my crochet hooks and a ball of Lily Sugar N Cream.

I started with the dishcloth. How many stitches did I chain? I have no idea I just did my version of half double crochet until I got a cloth that looked square adjacent to my eyes. I still had meeting time and cotton left. So I held the yarn doubled and knit a long rectangle. I then folded it and seamed it into a dish scrubbie.

Now I’m left with a dish set of sorts. Not sure if this will go in my kitchen drawers into the kids play set. But it got one ball of kitchen cotton out of my stash and turned into a useful item

Happy Friday and Happy Crafting!

All The Canadian Sweaters Quantities

I have been zooming every Monday evening with the ladies from the Wet Coast Wools LYS (Vancouver, CA) for their knit night. I enjoy it very much but I was WILDLY enabled this past month.

The shop ran a huge sale after Christmas on their yarns and add to that the favorable exchange rates for Americans…..I fell down the sweater quantity hole. I ended up giving Glenda all my Christmas monies (and then some).

I picked up six skeins of Lagom by Katia in a wonderful heathered grey color on a worsted weight. That is roughly 1,300 yards of yarn to make a nice nuetral sweater. Next up is eight skeins of Holst Garn Coast in a brown color. This is a fingering weight yarn I intend to hold double for a garment of sorts. Lastly I grabbed five skeins of Briggs and Little Regal in a heathered blue. This is another worsted weight but this one is pretty sheepy feeling. I think this will need to be a cardigan to be worn over an under layer for my princess skin.

All in all it felt nice to add some heavier weight to my stash. I have a TON of fingering/sock but I tend not to buy the heavier stuff to have on hand. I’m working on that in 2021.

Blanket Happy Place

I have found my happy place. The kids are asleep, the fire is roaring and I have a warm wooly blanket in my lap. I’m still cranking through my Baby Dreams Crochet blanket.

I counted and I have completed six out ten skeins in this blanket. And I think my tension is getting better and I’m maintaining my stitch count in the blanket so the blanket should be more square than tapered. I’m still getting used to crochet so I am happy with my improvement from my first few blankets.

And with all the chaos in my job, the world and having two kids. I find something very cathartic to light a first and listen to the crackle and pop while the flames dance away. Not to mention my tootsies feel nice and warm!

Where is your happy place?

Carbon Sprinkle Heels

Both of my Carbon Sprinkles Vanilla Sock tubes are now complete!

They ended up matching quite nicely to one another. Not a requirement for me but a pleasant outcome. I need to install the afterthought heels and I will have the cutest socks to add to my drawer.

I do plan to use the striping yarn to do the heels. I will do some color management to make sure the heel placement falls in the middle of the speckled stripe and then start the yarn for the heel at a corresponding place. Usually I can finish the heels in two or three evenings? We shall see…

Wishful Knitting: Into The Light

I watched an old YouTube video from a new to me podcaster, Chevas of Chevyrell’s Stuff. This one is swearing friendly and I love it but it may not be for everyone. But I digress, she had knit a couple of the pattern Into The Light Shawl pattern (rav link). And I’m obsessed I can’t think of anything else I want to knit right now. It’s a gorgeous triangle pattern with all garter stitch and beautiful yarn fading.

I haven’t let myself cast on yet but I did some stash diving in my fingering weight stash and pull some possible combinations. This pattern needs three colors of sock yarn with the yarn intended to be held double.

My first combination is a pink to purple kind of transition. A skein of Into the Whirled, Knitted Wit victory sock, and skein I forgot to read the label for. But this is a light to dark kind of fade.

My second combination is my runner up. It goes from a light blue and grey mix to blue hues to finally a decidedly more grey dominant mix. I know the left skein is from Knitterly things and I didn’t write down the rest, lol. I like this combo and its growing on me but I really am leaning strongly towards my first pick.

It was really fun to dig through and play with different combinations of all this fun yarn I bought many moons ago. I need to clear my needles a bit but this is for sure my next cast on!

Happy Knitting!
