Sleeves!

I feel like I finished a marathon and I have most of my Catbells cardigan is done! I am finished with 24 inches of patterned body.

I didn’t have my needle set with me over the last weekend so I couldn’t start the ribbing just yet. But I didn’t want to lose steam so I decided to start the sleeves. I did have my Chia Goo mini set in my project bag so I could work the sleeves in the round.

This is actually my second start of the sleeve. I accidently picked up the stitches with the sweater inside out. Oops! I do plan to deviate from the pattern on the sleeves. I have larger upper arms and really want to customize for a good fit.

Really hoping this means I am *this* close to finish this long lingering WIP. I started this sweater in June 2021….

Finally, The Garden

My garden finally woke up and we have started harvesting tomatoes!

The small ones are little Roma tomatoes that I am washing and freezing for sauce and recipes later this winter. The big slicer is destined for BLTs this week! We may get precious little before fall freeze so I am going to watch carefully!

HO: Victorian Mauve Sock

My Victorian Mauve Vanilla Sock has had it’s glamour shot courtesy of my patio fence that badly needs refinished.

I have tried this on and the fit is excellent. This yarn is really superb and I already have the foot of the second sock already started. I can definitely say that these socks will be a favorite in my winter rotation.

Everything Coming Up Daffodils

After finishing my Deep Regret 2-ply I decided to work another smaller project. I seem to be all about the instant gratification!

This Romney is not as soft the merino I have been working with and find I need to pre-draft a little bit more. I split the braid in half and then those half again to make thinner fiber. And as I spin I am opening up the fiber to make a thinner single.

My kids and husband were on the Switch before school/daycare so I took my wheel and my coffee outside for 10 minutes to spin before work. It was sunny, cool and calm. The last I saw of those things that day. Work has upended once again and is causing me more responsibility and stress but that’s a post for another day!

Themes On A Color Story

I saved up some fun money and managed to blow it all in one place, lol. I fell down in Hannah of The Corner of Craft’s shop update last month.

The two skeins on the left are BFL DK in a variegated purple called Metagaming Pigeon, the pink skein is a sparkle sock in the Net of Shadows colorway and finally the darkest skein is another BFL DK skein in Gift for Lolth. I also couldn’t resist the hand beaded project marker because avocado is one of my favorites.

Full disclosure, I have zero plans for any of this yarn. I really should pull out all of my Chromatic Yarn stash to see what I have amassed so far. At this point I could probably make a whole blanket with just this dyer, lol.

A UniZebraCorn Tube

Finally got a vanity shot of my first UniZebraCorn sock tube before I lost the sunlight!

The pooling really played out nicely. The rainbow is subtle and the zebra black/white breaks up the crazy very well. I haven’t weighed this tube yet but I have a generous ball of yarn left. I am still pondering on the yarn choice for the heel. Could do black or I could just use this same self-striping yarn.

I think I will finish the second tube and decide how I feel in that moment. Happy Knitting!!

Getting Closer To The Hem

The sweater that never ends is ever so closer to the hem! Twenty-one inches is a LOT of sweater body, especially when I will probably have to add length to accommodate my generous back fourty.

I have this ball of yarn and one more skein of yarn from my original lot. I did source three more from the internet last month when I panicked that my yarn was disappearing. Looking at my sweater body I can probably finish the body with those. And I would probably only need a second skein to do the sleeves, but better safe than sorry!

Gratuitous Handspun – Deep Regret 2-ply

Another skein of handspun has joined the stash! This merino tencel blend absolutely flew off my wheel. I had prepared this roving into little nestlets and managed fairly thin singles. All in all I think this was managed across four or five days.

I spun two bobbins and with my “go-to” 2ply approach which resulted in a sport weight with some light worsted spots. Super super super happy with this one! The 2-ply was 150 yards of yarn over 113 grams with really lovely barber poling.

My bobbins weren’t quite even and I had a little leftover so I chain plied the remainder into a teeny tiny 3-ply skein. Its 8 yards over 10 gram so a little heftier skein but gorgeous nonetheless.

Now I just need to plot my next spin! Happy spinning!!

Same Seat, Different Sock

Another week, another gymnastics lesson. This time Jellybean decided to tag along, mostly for the reward snacks at the end! This session had me working on my second Victorian Mauve Socks. I finished the first during my cold medicine haze and owe you and update.

The math held true and I managed to add about 3/4 of an inch of sock during a 40 minute class. Jellybean brought a new book but spent most of the class keeping an eagle eye out for his sister. He’s a natural protector.

All this planned knitting time seems to be reigniting my knitting mojo. Spinning has just been easier these days but these socks are very mindful and helpful. And this BFL from La Bien Aimee is worth ever cent. This fabric is soft yet firm which should lead to hard wearing socks!

Spinning Deep Regret

I love a good theme, so I decided to pull out the last of the three month fiber club I received early this year. This is four ounces of a merino/tencel blend. I decided to take a different tac on this braid to see if I could get finer singles than my previous spinning.

I split the braid in half to make two lots. And then for each lot I broke those in half lengthwise and then split those halves down the middle to end up with little nests of fiber. These are skinnier sections of fiber that I hope to control into finer singles.

Now I just need the spare time to keep spinning!
