Sock Planning

I finished my Leftover Advent Socks last week and my Sport Ankle Socks are super close to done as well. This meant I felt compelled to dig further into my yarn stash for my next sock projects!

I kind of dig the process of having both a self striping sock on the needles and a variegated sock on the needles. In this stash dive, I pulled a rainbow strip from String Theory Colorworks in their Inertia base. I’ll cast on my standard 68 stitch toe up sock tube with afterthought heel.

For the GingerSnap skein I think I will do contrasting toes and cuffs and the main sock in a toe up sock with gusset heel. I am going to pay attention and recalibrate the foot from my Ankle sock mis-measurement. Now I just need some free time to wind these skeins!

Sparkly Handspun Hat

I have been meaning to get back to my black shiny handspun after finishing my gloves last year.

I am working my basic beanie “recipe” to make this hat. I cast on 76 stitches on a US 7. This is smaller than my normal hat count but this yarn is bulky in places so I want to err on the side of caution so this doesn’t come out bucket sized.

Now I just need more time to knit all these projects! Happy Knitting!!

A Good Morning

I’ve had this skein of KnitCircus Opulance in a prototype colorway that will make super cozy and soft socks thanks to the 10% cashmere content. It’s honestly been wound up into two equal balls for weeks but I didn’t have the gumption to start the socks.

But I had the opportunity to get this started on the perfect morning. Early morning appointment for one of the kiddos, no work and a hot coffee. I unpacked my purse on a clean table and had a glorious 30 minutes to myself.

I am casting on 60 stitches and following the same “recipe” as my Emotional Support Socks. I just don’t plan to make them as tall. Maybe ankle height? I need more of those in my rotation for ankle boot days.

Two Wee Advent Toes

I did get two wee toes started with my leftover 2023 CozyKnitter advent skein. This time around I started without a contrast toe so the resulting socks will be shorter.

I may not work a stripe a day, but I do plan to work them in tandem. So if I knit on one, I will stop and do the same on the other. I really wanted to work some sort of slip stitch detail into these but I am not convinced it will show up in the subtle fade. I will try it for a few colors but if it sucks….I’ll rip them back.

Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: Handpun Mitts

I could not get the idea of black sparkly handspun mitts out of my mind. So here I am casting on!

This handspun is thicker than the pattern calls for. So due to the rules of gauge, I am going up in needle size and down in stitch count to get a Women’s Med/Lg size mitt at the end. Did I swatch? No. But these are quick knits and I plan to treat the first mitt as a swatch.

If I have to rip back and start again? No biggie, just means more New Years knitting time for me! Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: Teal Dreams Hat

I needed another easy project on the needles to kick around when I am tired or watching movies. Another hat it is!

I cast on this hat during a 90 minute customer care call with a work vendor. I added 96 stitches and then did a single row of 2×2 rib and then switched back to stockinette. Those few rib stitches are really helping the brim to keep from rolling all the way up.

I am going to work a folded brim for this one, but in stockinette this time. I just didn’t have the fortitude to work 4-6 inches of ribbing. My brain is still digesting the Christmas haze and carbohydrates. Other than that decision, I am just winging this hat. I’ll decide the rest as I go!

Happy Knitting!!

Christmas Eve Cast On – 2023

Here is a little sneak peak of the package I will unwrap later this evening. A Christmas Eve present is a tradition in our home. Kiddos get bedtime snacks and new PJs….I get a knitted cast on.

Spicing this up this year with some mulled wine and a new stemless wine chiller I picked up on a girls trip. The cast on will be some sport weight socks. This is the skein of Lilliput Yarn yarn that I ordered thinking it was worsted weight.

It’s a merino/nylon blend so it will be a perfect sock and I need some heavier boot socks in my drawer. So the universe is telling me its meant to be. Now off to prep for Santa coming tonight!

Merry Christmas!

A Second Glove Cast On

In an effort to avoid “Second Gift Syndrome” I decided to get the other set of teacher gloves on the needles so I wouldn’t be tempted to let them languish.

This pair I am going to experiment with the women’s size large for this go around. I am interested to see if the 4 stitch increase in pattern makes a big difference in size. I know I could measure gauge and do the math. But heck, it’s the holidays and I feel like throwing caution to the wind.

Now back to Christmas prep….only two days to Santa! Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: Christmas Insanity

Cast-on-itis has me in its grips. I got a wild hair to cast on some fingerless gloves to see if I could make homemade teacher gifts. This is Christmas insanity!

I have made these mitts before out of this exact yarn. I am making the Dreaming of Spring Fingerless Mitts by Joelle Hoverson. It’s in my More Last Minute Knitted Gifts book. The yarn is Claddagh by Good For Ewe and its been kicking around in my stash since 2020.

It’s a 2-ply yarn so it’s not great for everything but makes really pleasing fabric for mitts. Crazy me wants to make two full pair of women’s medium mitts in like 12 days. I am now confident I am nutts.

Happy Knitting!!

Chocolate And Vanilla

The hat mojo continues, and this time its a skein of worsted in “cocoa” from K-Zip Knits. I was feeling another Musselburgh. Kelsey is a great dyer and I got to know here during COVID zoom knit nights. Duke and I started working on this next hat while snuggled

Still using 8US sized needles and this stitch count is looking to be 88 in total based on my gauge thus far. I just liked this photo as its very chocolate and vanilla. Happy Knitting!!
