Cygnus Vanilla Update

I admit all the focus on my Mighty Rainbow Blanket has made me yearn for other projects. And with my wrist being sore I needed a lighter project than my super heavy blanket. I’m sooo close to done so I indulged myself a little and pulled out my Cygnus Vanilla socks!

I pulled the yarn from the other end of the cake and installed the afterthought heel. After lots of trial and error I’ve found a formula of sorts for my heel. Instead of straight knit one round and decrease one round combo I have found a combination of multiple knit rows to a single decrease row that adds depth to the heel for a better fit. I’ll try to put notes in my Rav project for those with inquiring minds.

For now I’m off to finish the leg of this sock. With sport weight yarn it shouldn’t take much!!

80% There

My Mighty Rainbow Blanket is officially 80% done!

I managed to squeeze in two blue stripes since my last update. I finished the Gulfstream and the Celestial. I’m just about to start the first purple stripe called Eggplant.

This has been my main project these past few weeks. I’m really really hoping to get this done very soon. Only two skeins to go!

Cast On: Gradient Mitts

The Down Cellar Studio Pigskin Party is hosting a special December interception and giveaway. It’s all about the minis! So while waiting for my swap packages to arrive I pulled the One Twisted Tree mini skein set in the Beachy color  from my stash!

And after some pattern diving in Ravelry I fixated on the Gradient Mitts by Christa McCurdy. And boy are these addicting!

I finished the first one (sans thumb) and started the second one. The yarn is held double to achieve the gradient effect. Between the two strands of yarn and the fact I chose to stay on size three needles, this fabric is dense and warm. I love it!

The mini set was short one color and my husband suggested black. Not a color I would normally use in this case. But I kinda dig the stark contrast from beginning to end. Points for the hubby!

Now on to the second one! Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: Rainy Avenue

I recently stumbled across some caked up goodies in my stash, Cascade Yarns Sunseeker in a sparkle grey color. I bought this many moons ago and tried to start a very complicated shawl. I got frustrated and frogged it.

But now that my skills have grown a bit this yummy yarn deserves to be knit. I chose Rainy Avenue by Jeannie Kubricht. The pattern calls for a variegated contrast color but I think I’ll be a little more vanilla and just use one color throughout.

I pulled a project bag together and started the garter tab cast on. I have a few other WIPS I’d like to finish up before starting this. But it’s nice to know this project is ready and waiting for me when I’m ready to start working!

Knitting and Hockey

The husband and I scored free tickets to a local minor league hockey team, The Topeka Roadrunners. We found a sitter for Jellybean and off we went! Of course I can’t go anywhere without my knitting…

I’ll update you later on the detail of this project later this week. I’m already done with it ☺️

As for the hockey, we won 6-2 but I’m not sure I understand the game after watching but it was a nice date night event.

Mighty Rainbow Blanket Update

I’m officially half way done with my Mighty Rainbow Blanket!

I finished the Macaw (dark green) and started the Sky (light blue). I have to admit to feeling a little bit of momentum building on this project. I think partially because I’m closer to done than starting. But also because I’m into the cooler colors that I seem to favor over the warm tones.

I have set this insane arbitrary goal of having this done by December 31st. With an even crazier thought of trying to have this done by Christmas…I have to be nuts!

WIP Wednesday: Cygnus Vanilla Socks

Boy do I love sport weight yarn! After all the fingering weight all the time this just flies off my needles. And it amazes me every time even though it’s basic physics that larger yarn makes bigger stitches, ergo more fabric faster.

My birthday socks have a foot! I am making these to match the dimensions of my Black Body Radiation socks and so far so good. The ripcord for the afterthought heel is installed and I’m cruising up the leg. Did I mention how much I love this yarn? The colors of String Theory Colorworks just pop and all those pinks and purples are just tickling my knitterly heart.

Must Knit Faster

I’m IN LOVE with this color of Hedgehog Fibers sock yarn. My Bali socks are soooo close to being done. This blue is just so rich and reminds me of a tropical holiday. I periodically put on the first sock to admire it ❤️

I’m in the final stretch of the second leg. Then it’s just ribbing and cast off! Between the holidays and recent personal events I’ve had a lot of stress to deal with. Knitting is my rock and my meditation, I literally would be lost without it. Having said that the product knitter in me just wants these socks on my feet RIGHT NOW! So I guess I need to knit faster ☺️

Blanket Mojo

I’ve conquered another color on my mighty rainbow blanket!

This new green color is called Macaw and it’s just so rich and bright! I usually hate blankets but I’m finding this one very meditative. When I finish this stripe I will be halfway done. I also keep looking in my project bag and peaking at the upcoming colors in delight. Still to come are rich blues and vibrant purples, be still my heart!

Happy Knitting!!
