Westport Blanket Blunder

I picked up my Westport Blanket last night to continue progress and listen to some podcasts. Well, I *thought* had the pattern sequence in my brain and was only half looking at my pattern. I might have also consumed an ice cold alcoholic beverage after dinner because work has been less than pleasant lately. And I was knitting along and laughing at my podcast just so pleased with myself! Then a blunder hit me smack dab in the forehead!

See my two borders of the blanket? Yeah…one is a sort of broken stitch and one is a weird ribbing. I mis-read (or didn’t read at all) one of the border row instructions and just blithely knit along. I’m putting this in time out until I have the fortitude to ladder down and fix the three columns that are wrong.

I really should know better by now. But I guess this is just another opportunity to learn! Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: Crochet Rainbow Baby Blanket

One of my longest and favorite friends from childhood recently let me know that she will be welcoming a tiny bundle of joy this summer. Okay, based on the size of her husband….may not be so tiny, but I digress.

My crafting time is pretty limited but she has worked CRAZY hard to get pregnant so she (and the baby) deserve something special. I knew Joanns was running a sale on Bernat Blanket and I found this amazing color!

The momma knows the sex of the baby but I don’t. So I figure bright rainbow suits either way. I’m doing a blanket similar to the Little Roses For A Little Princess one from last year. For this one I chained for 48 inches and I’m doing a half double crochet stitch and just working until I’m out of yarn or it’s big enough. Whichever comes first.

I love how fast bulky crochet goes so I’m already almost through the first skein! The colors are also helping to brighten up the dreary winter nights. I just have to watch myself so I don’t miss too many stitches and start going trapezoidal!

Little Roses For A Little Princess

Another crochet blanket has hit the finished pile! The Baby Beinhoff Blanket is complete! 

I made this one bigger than my previous attempts. I used two skeins of Bernat Baby Blanket in the colorway Little Roses. It looks more like Neapolitan ice cream to me but I guess no one asked me to name it!

My stitch tension is fairly even and I am having to not stare as intently at the work as much as before. I’m able to read the stitches and feel where things should go. This little blanket is intended for a baby girl due this summer to an old coworker I miss very dearly. She lives 4 hours away and we don’t see much of each other. I guess I’ll just have to settle for swaddling her little princess in yarn!

Babies Babies Babies

I have a several babies making their appearance this year in my circle of friends. And I’ve developed a reputation for gifting hand knits. Not that I don’t love knitting for wee ones but my limited craft time makes it hard to want to work on obligation knitting. But my newfound crochet skills have given me an easy out!

I have worked another crochet baby blanket in half double crochets in Bernat Baby Blanket in the color little roses. I used two skeins this time for a bigger blanket. I’m quite pleased and it’s getting easier to handle the hook. I think the variagated yarn really lends itself to hiding my another status as well! Not to mention I knocked this out in two evenings.

Working Out The Kinks

I finished my crochet baby blanket! I definitely had a few kinks in the process. I feel fairly clumsy with the hook still.

  
This is definitely a test piece! I had trouble controlling my tension and losing stitches at the end of my rows. Look how wonky this sides are! But I did get the hang of the half double crochet stitch and where to place my hook. This finished blanket turned out to be 21 inches by 27 inches so that’s not bad for baby sized. I’m still not ready to start a huge blanket and I had another single skein of this Bernat Baby blanket in my stash so I started a second one.

  
Upside is that this one is more even and the stiches are easier to see in the blue color. And boy howdy is this faster than knitting. I finished my white blanket in four sittings or roughly 8 hours! I don’t think I’ll end up being a huge crochet fiend but it is a great way to knock out a quick baby knit!

I Can See The Light!

That’s right….Jellybean’s blanket is all dry and ready for a border! I must admit I’m dreadfully slow with a crochet hook but based on progress so far I should be able to finish up in just a couple of dedicated crafting evenings.

I decided on a simple crochet border in the green color way. I’m chaining my way around to establish a foundation then I’ll add one or two rounds of single crochet. I don’t want to overwhelm the texture of the knitting and I need some green leftover for my bunting!

Houston, We Have A Blanket

I finished the last bit of Jellybean’s blanket and got the whole mess into a bath!!

A CRAZY amount of lint came off this blanket. Not surprising as my lap was covered with lint as I knit. Now I have it stretched, flattened, and drying in the basement (with the help of a fan)! I’m hoping to begin crocheting the border tomorrow night!

Baby Blanket Update

Jellybean’s blanket is slowly making progress. At the last update I’d almost completed two rows. My recent sock addiction has bitten into the time I’ve spent on this project. According to my pregnancy app I’ve only got 100 days or so to get this wrapped up. I’m onto the third row as we speak.

I can sit and make 1 and 1/2 hexagons an evening. So I really just to buckle down and finish this so Jellybean has something to curl up in, lol. I think six rows should make an adequate baby blanket. That makes me just under halfway…I hope….
