Decision Point: All My Stitches

I am at a decision point with my All My Stitches. I have already gone past the pattern number of increases….but I can’t decide to do more or start the next pattern section. Which is a long slow decrease section.

I don’t want to play yarn chicken but I also don’t want to have yarn leftover or not use all the colors. If I get towards the end I could manage my colors to make sure I get some of each color in but that would leave me with leftovers. I kind of have my heart set on using all of the advent. I guess I didn’t make the best pattern selection for that, lol.

Time for thinking….

Bifrost Progress

I have my Bifrost back on track and I’m really pleased with this version. I ended up with casting on 100 stitches to make this more of a wrap rather than a scarf. I have even moved into the second color!

So far this second mini skein is just lighter more variegated version of the first mini. The first mini was a tonal purple. And this second is a variegated white/light purple. And the slipped stitch edge is making my orderly brain happy.

I have set an arbitrary goal of finishing this by September 1st and before the 2021 Pigskin Party KAL kicks off. No WIPs allowed in that one so I want to crank out this yardage before I move to scoring those touchdown points.

Cast On: Bifrost Advent

After I ripped out my Wool and Waves advent shawl AND getting my Cloudborn order in, I was ready to cast on my next garter shawl/scarf project. This is the last project I need to “finish all the advent yarn before the new advent yarn comes in the fall”, lol.

I picked the Bifrost pattern by Cater Carter Evans. And I started this project as the pattern instructed for stitch count and stitch pattern. But for one, I didn’t like the garter edging and I wanted a wider project. I did go up several needle sizes to try and make the scarf bigger. I just want more….

So I ripped back the whole darn thing. Which was, if I may say, a nightmare! The soft merino singles stuck to EVERYTHING and ITSELF. I did have to rip one section out and fix it itself. But I managed to get all the yarn back to ball state.

I took some gauge measurements before I ripped, so now I just need a few minutes to run some calculations in excel. I’m going to keep the stitch pattern but work in a slipped stitch edge. And I will cast on more stitches than the pattern….I just needs to do the math to determine how many.

All But The Duplicate Stitch

Isn’t this just so pretty?? I can’t stop petting and staring at this project! The Volcano Trail is all done save the duplicate stitch on the back.

My mattress stitching skills didn’t turn out to shabby! I am pretty happy with the seam. You can still totally tell where the line is but I didn’t predict that it would disappear being as its garter stitch.

Now I just need to knuckle under and get through the duplicate stitch. Which for me, I am sloppy at and never looks as polished I had hoped. So while not difficult, I do not look forward to that particular technique. I know I just need more practice on it but I don’t have to be happy about it either, lol.

Ready For Section Four

My Volcano Trail cowl is whizzing right along. I am now adding my mystery skein of green sock yarn and this time I’m doing it correctly!

I am solidly in section four and getting ready to start section five. As with most of my projects where I hold yarn double…..I still fixing my mistakes where I don’t get both strands in both stitches. Sigh….

The only yarn I have left to fade in is a purple speckled/variegated skein of Ms. Crosby’s Hat box. I am thinking it will blend nicely. I am intrigued to see how I will end up seaming this up an what the finish will look like. Its in the 90s here in Kansas so I won’t be needing what will about to a DK weight cowl anytime soon!

FO Friday: In The Light (Pink Version)

Ta Dah!! My In The Light (Pink Version) is finished finished finished. And I’m over the moon happy with it!

Pattern: In The Light by Casey Day-Crosier (Rav link)

Yarn: Black Trillium Fibre Studio Pebble Sock in Super Happy Fun, Knitted Witt Victory Sock in Unicorn Giggles and finally KirbyWirby in an OOAK colorway. All combined I used about 1,050 yards of sock yarn out of my stash. So just about two and a half of three skeins.

Needles: US 9

Mods: none

I’m going to toot toot my own horn and fawn over how well all these pinks fade into one another. It really looks like the yarn was designed this way. The truth is that these are three random skeins of yarn I pulled from my stash. I could stare at this for hours…

In the end I love how warm and squishy this shawl turned out to be. I am envisioning wearing this over a black tee or top to really make the pinks pop! This being my third version of this pattern in two months I do think I will move on to other patterns for a bit. But I wouldn’t rule out making this pattern again some day.

Ready For Lace….Again

Yesterday was a great sunshine day and I got my In The Light (pink version) outside for a good photograph!

I have blended in the third and last color of this project. It is a OOAK (one of a kind) skein from KirbyWirby yarns. Normally she is a self-striping dyer but I think this is an experiment she put in her shop because its definitely a variegated yarn.

I’m SUPER happy with how this bright is blending in and makin up the darkest section of the project. I’m ready to start the lace section and then all have is the final knitted border that I will unravel for fringe. I’m still addicted to this project and can’t wait to have the finished item!

Ready For The Bright Pink

I had a few Zoom meeting this last couple of days where I wasn’t presenting or having to talk very much. And you know what? That is great for garter stitch knitting! In roughly two days of meeting and after bedtime knitting I am poised to add the third and last color to my In The Light (pink version)!

I am definitely a broken record but I love how well this double stranded sock yarn plays well with highly variegated and speckled yarn. It just smooths out any pooling or flashing. As a knitter I have never minded making a good pattern over and over again. This one will definitely be one for my repeat catalogue!

All The Pink Variation

My third iteration of In The Light is ADDICTIVE. I can’t put it down and I’m already adding the second color.

My first skein was a white base with rainbow speckles from Black Trillium Fibre studio. It was their Pebble Sock base in the Super Happy Fun colorway. Next up is some Knitted Witt Victory Sock in Unicorn Giggles.

The light to medium transfer is going really well. The Unicorn Giggles is just next shade darker but has some of the same rainbow speckles from the Super Happy Fun. This is the fringed version so it has a few more stitches per row than the plain version so its taking longer but I don’t mind.

I just adore how fast this project eats up yarn while still making a beautiful project! Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: In The Light, Pink Version

As promised after finishing my green In The Light I promptly put a third one on the needles. This will be my pink version and I already can’t put it down.

I chose to go back to the fringed version for this one. I’m starting with a white skein with rainbow speckles from Black Trillium Fibers and then will progress to a Knitted Witt Victory sock skein in pink with rainbow sprinkles and finish up with a OOAK skein from KirbyWirby.

This bright and pink yarn is making feel more spring-like and peppy. I am enjoying the process of this pattern but I think in this case I really want the finished thing more!

Happy Knitting!!
