Finished: Flats Hat

The Flats Hat is complete and ready for my 2025 gift bag.

Pattern: My own 88 stitch beanie “recipe”

Needles: US 8s

Yarn: Thelittlewolfknits Opti base in the Pigskin Party KAL exclusive colorway “Flats or Drums”

I forced myself to extend this to maximize yarn usage. I used 82 grams or 179 yards of yarn total. I got 40 bonus KAL points for using sponsor yarn. I really like how the dark brown spiraled in this hat at my gauge.

I would definitely buy more yarn from this dyer again. It was nicely dyed and I didn’t have any colors bleed. And the hand of the finished fabric is very soft and nice. Orange isn’t usually my colors but I love how the browns and green bits punch this one up.

Now on to my next hat! Happy Knitting!!

Flats Hat Decreases

My Flats Hat is ready for decreases!

The family sat down and watched RedOne since we missed it in December and I cruised through the body of the hat. The move is great and seeing a jacked Santa was something else! This yarn is Littlewolfknits yarn in the Opti base called “Flats or Drums”. I picked flats because those are the superior wings IMO.

I managed to get my DPNs installed before my eyes started crossing and it was time to go to bed. I should be able to wrap this up in the next couple of days. And bonus for me, it will earn me extra points in the Pigskin Party KAL for an exclusive sponsor product.

Happy Knitting!!

Turning My Flats Brim

Thanks to a holiday dinner at GGs and some family chit chatting….I knit enough to turn the brim on my Flats Hat.

My little cousins were mesmerized at how much fabric I could make during one family party. They tried to convince me that this was orange enough to be a hunting hat, lol. I know I need to make more ribbed brims for my hat collection, but it is just so much faster to work stockinette in infinity.

This hat has a deadline to score some extra points in the Pigskin Party KAL. This yarn from thelittlewolfknits earns me sponsor points! These hats really don’t take much time if I can force myself to be monogamous…but that has been a problem lately as I want to cast on all the things!

Cast On: Flats Hat

After finishing the Fairy Tale Beanie, I decided to get yarn right back on my needles to kick off 2025. I pulled the worsted skein called “Flats for Drums” from Thelittlewolfknits haul.

Back to my comfort zone of my basic beanie recipe with 88 sts on US 8 needles. I named this hat the Flats Hat as I prefer my chicken wings to be flats and not drums. I thought that was cute, lol. I also totally picked a project bag that fit in with the yarn color scheme. I couldn’t help myself.

I need to also finish this hat by the Superbowl as this is a sponsor product for the KAL. I think this will become my purse and work knitting for my month of upcoming meetings!

Cast On: Chiefs Hat #5

This weekend is all about the cast-on-itis and I used football game watching to start another hat brim. I managed to get the full brim knit over two games and get everything turned/connected.

I picked up a skein of Malabrigo Rios at the Studio in the colorway Sunset. I thought this gold/orange color would make a great compliment to my Chiefs Hat #4 colors. I have that one finished and will show you tomorrow all the glamour shots. I started with the Pearl Ten grey for the lining and then moved into the Sunset. I am just now adding the red/Sealing Wax color.

I am not sure how Chiefs-y this will turn out but I am too far to turn back. This will end up a functional hat no matter the colors. OH and I did make the brim wide enough to be able to have a decal added.

Deer Hat Progress

My Oh Deer! Hat has been living in my car these days for car line knitting and appointments. Progress has been slow but I did finally turn the brim.

I am also reading Remarkably Bright Creatures for my book club. It has been just the right amount of story detail and family drama to fit in my brain space this fall. I was unloading my car this morning and noticed how well my knitting coordinated with my book, lol!

Cast On: Oh Deer! Hat

It’s quickly approaching hunting season in my family and I just so happen to have ordered some orange yarn from Leading Men Fiber Arts. Why not make another Blaze Orange hat. I’m calling this one my Oh Deer! Hat as a pun for the deer hunting my dad and uncles have always done.

Duke is on supervision duty, as always. Since I am not flying in any near future, I decided to go back to my metal needles as they are wee bit faster for the knitting. And working a stockinette brim…..again.

Duke and I are cozy in the basement as the fall chill settles in. This guest room is one of my favorite “mom” hiding spots because no one want risk being asked to do laundry, lol!

2024 Conference Knitting

Conference knitting has arrived! This past week when my posts were auto-posting….the family and I snuck away to a conference in San Diego. And boy howdy, did I get a ton of knitting done (and work and family time).

I was in a room with 600+ ladies and I was one of two knitters. I very quickly became “orange hat lady” and had muggles approach me in the bathroom, lol. It was a 9 hour day so I made terrific progress on my Glazed Carrot hat.

Lots of people asked to touch it and were impressed with how soft the fabric is. That is the magic of a singles yarn with no plies, its soft! Stay tuned for the finished object shots…

Cast On: Glazed Carrot Hat

I am gearing up for some travel and I needed a “safe” project to travel with. Something easy, on wooden needles and a project I wouldn’t mind if TSA made me pull the needles out.

I grabbed the skein of Malabrigo Worsted that I bought on my lunch walk. It’s a singles yarn, so no plies. It won’t be the hardest wearing hat but the softness is out of this world. It’s called Glazed Orange but my midwestern brain just reads “Blaze Orange” for hunting safety.

I pushed myself NOT to do a stockinette brim and work 2×2 rib for some variety. It’s my standard 88 stitch hat on US 8s. I will fold that 2×2 brim for extra warmth and for sure this one will go into my gift pile. Which is quite large by now!

FO Friday: Sport Ankle Socks

I stalled out on the last 30 minutes of knitting on these for like…..a long tie. But my Sport Ankle Socks are done!

I started these as 60 stitch socks but ultimately worked up to 64 stiches. Which I was happy with for circumference and negative ease. However, I missed the mark on foot length and its a bit long. I am leaving it alone for now and give them a couple wears to see if they need sock surgery.

I only ended up using 66 grams of yarn or 290 yards for these shorties. I am consciously trying to knit shorties to add to my collections for winter ankle boots. This is KnitCircus opulence in a OOAK color from mystery box. It has cashmere content so they feel great on the feet….time will tell about pilling.

Now I need to get these needles with new yarn and my next socks on them! Happy Knitting!!
