Bifrost-ing Along

My Bifrost is speeding right along. I am through most of the purple minis and I’m in the neutral creams and browns. It’s starting to get heavy and warm in my lap!

Thanks to TV watching (and possibly a glass of wine) I have on occasion added an extra stitch here and there. I have decided perfection is my enemy in this case and when I discover the extras I am just decreasing them away. Makes for a few lumps and bumps but no one will EVER notice in a garter shawl of this size.

The one thing I am fixing is where I split the yarns. I am marling my 2019 advent minis with skeins of Cloudborn merino singles. So I want to make sure every stitch uses both yarns, for strength purposes. So when I discover those stitches I am dropping down to fix them.

I should be approaching halfway with this project and couldn’t be happier! Happy Knitting!!

Decision Point: All My Stitches

I am at a decision point with my All My Stitches. I have already gone past the pattern number of increases….but I can’t decide to do more or start the next pattern section. Which is a long slow decrease section.

I don’t want to play yarn chicken but I also don’t want to have yarn leftover or not use all the colors. If I get towards the end I could manage my colors to make sure I get some of each color in but that would leave me with leftovers. I kind of have my heart set on using all of the advent. I guess I didn’t make the best pattern selection for that, lol.

Time for thinking….

Happy Knitting!!

Bifrost Progress

I have my Bifrost back on track and I’m really pleased with this version. I ended up with casting on 100 stitches to make this more of a wrap rather than a scarf. I have even moved into the second color!

So far this second mini skein is just lighter more variegated version of the first mini. The first mini was a tonal purple. And this second is a variegated white/light purple. And the slipped stitch edge is making my orderly brain happy.

I have set an arbitrary goal of finishing this by September 1st and before the 2021 Pigskin Party KAL kicks off. No WIPs allowed in that one so I want to crank out this yardage before I move to scoring those touchdown points.

Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: All My Stitches

I couldn’t help myself the cast-on-itis was too strong with this one. I had all the minis prepped from my frogged Rainbow Fluff Hibernation Throw so I cast on the All My Stitches!

I am using just a plain white opal sock yarn that I found on Etsy. It should flow nicely as I progress through the rainbow. And I have confession….I have two skeins of the white Opal but I didn’t check yardage to see if it would be enough to last through advent minis. I may end up with yarn chicken on this one!

This cast on did take some brain space, the increase section is a four row repeat. I need to make sure I have time to complete the repeat before setting it down. So this is an “after the kids go to bed” kind of project. I’m anxious to get past the increase so I can just ZOOM in garter or awhile!

FO Friday: In The Light (Pink Version)

Ta Dah!! My In The Light (Pink Version) is finished finished finished. And I’m over the moon happy with it!

Pattern: In The Light by Casey Day-Crosier (Rav link)

Yarn: Black Trillium Fibre Studio Pebble Sock in Super Happy Fun, Knitted Witt Victory Sock in Unicorn Giggles and finally KirbyWirby in an OOAK colorway. All combined I used about 1,050 yards of sock yarn out of my stash. So just about two and a half of three skeins.

Needles: US 9

Mods: none

I’m going to toot toot my own horn and fawn over how well all these pinks fade into one another. It really looks like the yarn was designed this way. The truth is that these are three random skeins of yarn I pulled from my stash. I could stare at this for hours…

In the end I love how warm and squishy this shawl turned out to be. I am envisioning wearing this over a black tee or top to really make the pinks pop! This being my third version of this pattern in two months I do think I will move on to other patterns for a bit. But I wouldn’t rule out making this pattern again some day.

Happy Knitting!!

Ready For Lace….Again

Yesterday was a great sunshine day and I got my In The Light (pink version) outside for a good photograph!

I have blended in the third and last color of this project. It is a OOAK (one of a kind) skein from KirbyWirby yarns. Normally she is a self-striping dyer but I think this is an experiment she put in her shop because its definitely a variegated yarn.

I’m SUPER happy with how this bright is blending in and makin up the darkest section of the project. I’m ready to start the lace section and then all have is the final knitted border that I will unravel for fringe. I’m still addicted to this project and can’t wait to have the finished item!

Happy Knitting!!

Ready For The Bright Pink

I had a few Zoom meeting this last couple of days where I wasn’t presenting or having to talk very much. And you know what? That is great for garter stitch knitting! In roughly two days of meeting and after bedtime knitting I am poised to add the third and last color to my In The Light (pink version)!

I am definitely a broken record but I love how well this double stranded sock yarn plays well with highly variegated and speckled yarn. It just smooths out any pooling or flashing. As a knitter I have never minded making a good pattern over and over again. This one will definitely be one for my repeat catalogue!

Happy Knitting!!

All The Pink Variation

My third iteration of In The Light is ADDICTIVE. I can’t put it down and I’m already adding the second color.

My first skein was a white base with rainbow speckles from Black Trillium Fibre studio. It was their Pebble Sock base in the Super Happy Fun colorway. Next up is some Knitted Witt Victory Sock in Unicorn Giggles.

The light to medium transfer is going really well. The Unicorn Giggles is just next shade darker but has some of the same rainbow speckles from the Super Happy Fun. This is the fringed version so it has a few more stitches per row than the plain version so its taking longer but I don’t mind.

I just adore how fast this project eats up yarn while still making a beautiful project! Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: In The Light, Pink Version

As promised after finishing my green In The Light I promptly put a third one on the needles. This will be my pink version and I already can’t put it down.

I chose to go back to the fringed version for this one. I’m starting with a white skein with rainbow speckles from Black Trillium Fibers and then will progress to a Knitted Witt Victory sock skein in pink with rainbow sprinkles and finish up with a OOAK skein from KirbyWirby.

This bright and pink yarn is making feel more spring-like and peppy. I am enjoying the process of this pattern but I think in this case I really want the finished thing more!

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: In The Light

I had the pleasure of attending a virtual professional women’s conference this week. It was 7 hours on zoom learning lots of cool things. But the upside of the virtual conference is that I got to knit all day. I decided to challenge myself to finish my In The Light. And you know what? It worked!

Pattern: In the Light by Casey Day-Crosier (Rav Link)

Needles: US 9s

Yarn: Cloudlover Fiber SW Merino Sock in the Mag Mel and Mojito colorways and One Twisted Tree Prime Fingering in the Forest Floor colorway

Mods; I added tassels to use up more of my skeins of yarn

I am super please with this project and how well all the yarns played together. The two Cloudlover skeins I used at the beginning and end were HIGHLY variagated and you know what? Holding them double really helped blend the yarn. The One Twisted Tree was more of a speckled tonal and gave a nice blend to the middle.

This patterns is addictive and uses SO MUCH SOCK YARN! With the modified tassles I used approximately 1,077 yards of yarn and most of each skein. I had the most left of the middle Forest Floor color. Now this is the simple version and it does use less yarn than the fringed version. I’m okay with that I like the simple elegance of this version.

I’m already itching to cast on a third In The Light in some lights/pinks. I can’t help myself when a pattern is this good and burns through so much sock yarn. Not to mention its helping me with those pesky “pretty” skeins of variegated yarn that I can’t help buying but never know what to do with.

Happy Friday and Happy Knitting!!
