WIP Wednesday: Zigzagular Socks

I finally had the guts to start working the chart for the Zigzagular Socks. I did half of the chart back here and did the second half this week.

I could use some working keeping consistent tension when my cables are moving. You can see above that I’m already getting better. I’m still a cable knoobie but it’s very neat to watch them wave back and forth. And being new to this I still need some quiet to work on these to make sure I’m going the right directions. So this project is relegated to after Jellybean goes to bed. Progress on these might be slow…

Winding All The Things!

My sister visited over her spring break so she could get some Jellybean time. This was back during the Plague in our house. It was EXTREMELY nice to have another adult around to help wrangle a snotty cranky toddler. She even gave us some time off for a date and knitting time.

Among other things I was able to get some yarn caked up for my next set of socks. I have been eyeing the Zigzagular Socks by Susie White of the Prairie Girls Knit and Spin podcast. This pattern looks fantastic in variegated yarn and would allow me to dip my toe into cabling. And their podcase is amazeballs and look forward to each episode.

The pattern is printed, my needles gathered up, and the yarn caked. No reason not to start! I am going to modify these to toe up with an afterthought heel. Just because I know that is what works for me. I don’t think Susie will mind.

Husband Socks: Take Two

I put my first husband sock aside and started #2! Thanks to some recent windshield time and a date to the Avengers: Age of Ulton with my husband I’ve made some progress!

I worked this far up to lunch yesterday! Only a bit of 2×2 rib and bind off to go!  Tonight after Jellybean went to bed I finished! The husband even modeled them (sort of). Dex of course was not to be left out! The socks fit much better but still loose at the top. Good enough for now but the next pair shall need some tweaking. And now of course, back to the first sock…

Not FO Friday

The first husband sock is done…sort of….  I worked for six inches past the heel and then used a stretchy bind off. I didn’t alter the ribbing for a cuff. Turns out that was dumb!

Upon putting it on his foot the hubby found it to be too loose and the top rolled down. I threw in about four evenly spaced increases that need to come out and I need to devise some sort of ribbed cuff for structure. What do you think? 2×2….3×3? These things I must ponder.

Good news is that at least I’m moving along on the foot of sock #2! I’m six inches of nine total foot knitting. These things might be done soon. Sigh, just as soon as I unpick and rework sock #1. Or maybe I’ll put it in time out until #2 is done, lol.

What’s On My Needles #7

I feel like my Husband Socks are the tortoises of my WIPs. Slow and steady wins the race. Apparently so because I haven’t blogged about them since February!

These are 3×1 ribbed sock for my husband. They live with my milk pumping supplies and get a few stitches here and there. I’m past the afterthought heel but wanted to add the heel so I can use up the remaining yarn for the leg. This means knitting from the inside and outside of the ball at once. Definitely not my favorite!

The yarn is Knit Picks Stroll in Merlot. It’s a great yarn but very dark. Add in the singular purls next to three knit stitches and getting the heel picked up was a nightmare. I ended up using locking stitch markers to catch all the dropped stitches until I could work around to them!

After all that drama….I need a time out. And this is only sock #1! My husband better love these (and next time he’s getting vanilla socks, lol).

Happy Knitting

Husband Socks: Update

By golly man sized socks take forever! I started these babies way back here. And I’ve made some progress.

The first sock looks like this:

That six inches of K3,P1 rib-y goodness. All across 80 freaking awesome stitches. The second sock only got this far:

Most of the toe increases done (I think). This project lives in my breast pump bag and I knit a few stitches as I listen to music and make lunch for Jellybean. I’m not going to break a speed record but a few stitches here and there will eventually a pair of socks make!

Ps. I hate the my spell check keeps trying to correct sock to sick, grr!

WIP Wednesday: Husband Socks

2015/01/img_2482.jpg

I have a good start on one toe of my husband socks! Next up is to cast on the other toe so I don’t forget what I did, lol. (I like to work my socks “two at a time” even though are on separate needles. Keep my pairs and gauge matching better.)

I’m using Knit Picks Stroll in merlot heather. It’s different than the Felici self-striping I had been using. But in a good way. It’s very pleasing to the touch but yet very strong and no splitting so far. The one downside is the dark color, boy is this hard to knit at night when you are tired! Those tiny stitches escape my eyes.

Stash Enhancement

My OCD/planning has kicked into high gear while pregnant. I have a plan for the nursery, budget for daycare and diapers, and a tentative holiday schedule to get Jellybean to all the relatives. Our finances will definitely change post baby with fewer dollars for creative activities like knitting and video games. So the hubby and I sat down and for our anniversary we splurged on each other before the baby gets here.

I got a little stash enhancement courtesy of the Knit Picks Summer Sale….20140706-153210-55930526.jpg

I picked up:

– Felici self striping – Lighthouse colorway

– Stroll Fingering – Blue Topaz

– Stroll Tonal – Canopy

– Brava Worsted – Caution yellow

– Stroll Hand-painted – County Fair

– Brava Sport – Eggplant

– Stroll Hand-painted – Lullaby colorway

– Heather Stroll – Merlot

Just enough for a couple of sweaters and several pairs of socks to stock up my drawer. I’m guessing what little knitting time I get after Jellybean gets here that socks will be my best “pick up/put down” project.

Pardon me I need to pet these lovelies before they got into my stash drawers 🙂

Happy Monday!!
