All But The Heels

My sister’s Christmas socks are really really close!

I have the tubes done and the remaining sock yarn stuffed in there (so I don’t lose it 😃)! I am going to see my parents soon so I hope I have time to get her foot trace. Then all I have to do is whip out two afterthought heels!

I am for sure going to insert lifelines through the stitches before I start snipping. Then I can insert the dpns into the stitches using the lifeline after the opening is created. I’ve done some googling and I feel like this is going to reduce my anxiety level. Stay tuned…..

Feeling Scrappy

My sock yarn memory blanket is officially square (ish) again.

I even spent an entire Jellybean nap and wove in more ends. I think I deserve a chocolate for that! This has just been very potato chippy for me lately.

I think, purely arbitrarily, that I’m going to add another column instead of another row right now. I love this blanket so much that I don’t even care that it’s 70 degrees and I roast working on it. It’s my current zen knitting and I can’t put it down. Much to the suffering of my other WIPs!

Happy Knitting!

HO Friday: Toe Up Socks With a Difference

My Toe Up Socks with a Difference have reached HO status!

That’s half finished status. I even wove in the ends after making sure the fit was okay.

It’s not as snug as some of my other pairs but it’s not falling off my foot by any means. The double gusset under the heel feels like it fits nicely but I’d like to wear them before I pass final judgement.

For now I’m going to just admire the fantastic color!! (The sock, not my pasty white winter leg 😂)

Happy Knitting!!

Slow But Steady Sock

My Double Gusset heel socks have been growing.

This has been my purse and webinar meeting knitting. I am almost to the full length of the leg. All that’s left is to start the cuff ribbing. I simply adore the yarn and the color. It makes me happy just to watch it develop.

These socks may not have as much negative ease as my others. But the fit should still be fine. These might be destined to become my favorite bed socks!

Happy Knitting!!

Stalled Sweater

My Baby Sophisticate has kinda stalled.

I’m down past the underarms and only a few more inches to the bottom ribbing. I just haven’t felt the mojo for this project. The yarn is just kind of splitty and the color so dark. I have just kind of let it marinade because I dearly love the mommy to be. I don’t want to half arse this project!

I have been knitting on my sock yarn memory blanket to clean my pallete. I hope in the next few days to get this sweater booted back up again!

Happy Knitting

WIP Wednesday: Baby Sophisticate #8

My latest Baby Sophisticate is cruising right along. I through the raglan increases and divided for the sleeves. (please ignore the dog hair…)

I really like the color but I can say this yarn can be a little splitty. It’s Cascade Heritage Cherub Aran in navy. It’s very soft from the acrylic content and should be easy care for the new mom and tiny treasure. So I can think I can deal. The baby shower is set for April 30th so now I have a deadline! Should be easy as pie…famous last words.

Flying Felici

I’m plugging away on Nicole’s Christmas socks and I’m just about to the ribbing on sock #2.

This self-striping sock yarn is just so darn addictive. And Felici is so soft that it’s a treat to work with. My dad informed me that he has the traces of my sister’s foot. We just need to be in the same place at the same time to exchange. I’m still nervous about cutting into perfectly good knitting, but I shall persevere!

Going Bold….With A Tube Sock

I’ve been quietly knitting away on my sister’s Christmas socks. I have a soft spot in my heart for Knit Picks Felici. And I decided to go bold….a true afterthought heel!

There she is, a true tube sock at this point. No waste yarn for heel placement. I still don’t have the trace of my sisters foot and the knitting was going so fast I didn’t want to stop. This sock is done and ready for heel placement. Once I get the measurement it should be alright given that I have good light, sharp needles and no toddler distraction…

At any rate I started the second sock!

What is it about self-striping that makes this kind of sock project so potato chipy???

Happy Knitting!!

WIP Wednesday: Toe Up Sock With A Difference

I made it past the heel on my Toe Up Socks With A Difference. These had kind of languished at the bottom of the WIP pile. I had completed the stockinette foot and was ready to start heel. This is a new to me heel construction and I needed time and brain space to sit down and just work through it. Both had been in short supply lately, but I finally made it!

The heel is a double gusset heel worked on the bottom of the foot. I’m following a Wendy D Johnson pattern that is free and found here on Rav. It was easy to follow and a pretty slick construction. Time will tell if it’s more or less comfortable than a traditional toe up gusset heel.

In the mean time I need to finish the leg of this sock and get moving on the second sock!

Happy Knitting!!

Not Bad For A First Try

My mittens for my bff are growing quickly. Now these really are fairly quick because they are small and worked in the round in stockinette. I zoomed through the cuff, installed the thumb and worked in my heart chart.

It’s not exactly dead center where I wanted it. But given that it’s not entirely visible I’m not going to fuss about it. I’ve the first mitt done except the thumb. And I’m going to start the second one momentarily. Now by the grace of the knitting gods I’m going to make sure and pay attention for the second glove. I know I need to place the heart on the opposite side of the glove so the right hand has the heart on the back and not the palm.

Think I will remember?
