Happy New Year and Happy New Yarn!

For many reasons the end of 2016 was pretty crappy for me. Christmas not withstanding because Christmas with a two year old is just awesome. (And no it’s not because any certain celebrity died.) The last quarter of 2016 was just one personal gut punch after another and that’s all I will say. A dear friend from college, bridesmaid in my wedding (ahem…almost 10 years ago), and definitely aΒ knit worthy friend mailed me a care package. And it was yarn of course! She is a resident of the Pacific Northwest and has at her doorstep some of the best yarns in the US. At least in my opinion

She sent me two skeins of beautiful Knitted Wit Victory Sock in the Fiesta color. When I opened the package I sent her this photo…

Since I have two skeins of this yarn I think I’m envisioning a pair of socks for me. And the second skein will become a set of matching finger-less gloves. One pair for me and a pair for her.Β

My life is blessed and I know that. I have a warm house, food to eat, and people who love me. But during the crappy times it really is nice to know someone notices and takes the time to do something to try to make it better. So if you need it right now I’m sending you a digital hug right now……

Merry Christmas To Me!

I sent Santa a wishlist this year. All I really wanted was yarn but my family doesn’t speak yarn. So I sent a list with web links. Santa did good…

Santa and the family hit my wishlist hard at the Loopy Ewe and I might have squealed out loud! I have Abstract Fiber, Into The Whirled, Berry Colorful Yarnings, and Fibernymph Dyeworks. I died and went to yarn fume heaven.

I hope you and yours had a safe and magical Christmas! Happy Knitting!!

Happy Birthday To Me!

I’m a lucky girl today! I think I was a good girl because when I asked for yarn for my birthday…I got some!

Meet the precious….

I Heart Yarn

I may have fallen down the Knit Picks hole…

After wallowing in my recent germy funk my keyboard just took itself to Knit Picks. I’ve been ITCHING to make the Might Rainbow blanket from KP Mighty Stitch. And I decided to treat myself and some sock yarn (Felici and Hawthorne) might have fallen in to my cart too.

The Pigskin Party KAL is just around the corner from the Down Cellar Studio podcast. I have big plans for all this yarn to rack ups some big KAL points! I’ll keep posted of course.

Happy Knitting!!

Hitting Pause

I’ve gotten to where my blanket obsession has abated slightly. I managed to knit like crazy and get a crazy amount of progress!

I’m feeling the sirens call of other projects again. So I’ve moved this project to my bedside table for zen knitting before bed. Progress should slow considerably since I get about 10 minutes in before I fall asleep needles in hand. Oh the life of an exhausted toddler momma!

This might pick up some steam again in September as I joined a couple sick yarn swaps and I’m expecting some exciting new mini skeins!

A New To Me Yarn

I’ve been listening to the Prairie Girls Knit and Spin podcast for about a year now. They are seriously funny lady and excellent crafters. Danie also runs the One Twisted Tree shop, a purveyor of fine yarn and other wonderful accessories. I’ve felt her yarn calling my name but I resisted until my blanket obsession took over. Then this happened…

That’s the Splash Pad Party mini skein set Danie made for the Down Cellar Studio summer KAL. The colors are great and I get to sample her yarn!

I also picked up a sock knitter profile bag. Because hey why not!

Just don’t tell my husband I bought more yarn….😊

IT’S HERE!!

My biggest yarn splurge ever finally arrived in the mail. I might have squeed a bit and danced away from the mail box. Behold!

Oh my it’s just so pretty. I resisted buying this for myself because “I wasn’t good enough” or “it was too expensive” but I’m so glad I got over that. These are gorgeous. And the minute I have free needles this yarn IS going on my needles. Alas that means finishing my Happy Vanilla socks or my Husband Socks. My bets are on the Happy Socks….fewer stitches!!

The 2015 Purge

Yesterday I talked about my spendy yarn purchase for Christmas. I’ll freely admit that this has caused a bit of guilt (along with my Knit Picks Cyber Monday spree).

So during one of jellybean’s naps I tore through my stash. It is fairly busting at the seams in my storage drawers. I have more than I could ever need. So I’m paying it forward!

I went drawer by drawer and did a long hard look at what I would use and what I never will. I’ve come up with a large-ish bag of acrylics and cottons that just aren’t my aesthetic or fiber of choice anymore. There are several nursing homes nearby that take craft donations for residents who can’t afford supplies. I also went through my needles and pulled the duplicates and triplicates to donate as well. I made the activities directors day when I walked in. And it made me feel a bit good as well.

I feel a bit more in control of my yarn and storage space. Not to mention this perfectly good yarn will actually be put to good use! I’m not trying to toot my own horn or anything. It’s not like I saved the world. But if I brought some peace to my space and a smile to a lonely heart….that’s a damn good day!
