My Rosewood Sockhead slouch is about the only knitted item I have been able to make progress on lately. It’s my bedside, in the dark, listening to podcasts and trying not to wake up the baby knitting. It really is knitting up nicely!
I’m at roughly 8 inches of hat and based on my Rainbow Pop sockhead hat I need to get to 11 inches before I start the decreases.

I had been wishful knitting a sweater for Jellybean. And Jellybean LOVES purple and I just so happen to have a sweater quantity of purple Knit Picks Brava Sport in my stash. I decided to cast on the Mackenzie 5 ply by Rebecca Newman
So I printed and read my pattern. Dutifully cast on after some gauge swatching and promptly knit the first page of instructions. Well….PB is on a sleep jihad much like her brother as an infant. So what little knitting time I get here lately is deeply affected by lack of sleep. I completely buggered the raglan increases. So an evening’s worth of work you see above? Yeah….it needs ripped. Sigh
I’m not too mad because it’s my own bonehead fault. And I know the yarn will stand up to ripping so I guess there’s that!

Happy Birthday to me!! I received some birthday money and decided to splurge on another month of Row One Yarn Carnival of Color club. (I didn’t quite meet my healthy lifestyle goals this month…but I didn’t back slide either. I’m just going to continue to make better choices every day.)
This month’s yarn is from Emma’s yarn in her Hella Hank base. Guys…this is like a 17 year old entrepreneur. She has a great website, excellent marketing and amazing yarn. Oh if only I was that smart as a teenager!

My mother works part time at an antique store come lunch dinette back where I grew up. And because she is an employee she gets to peak through all the goodies that come in. And recently a wooden crate came in that was full of yarn. The antique box sold quickly but the yarn got tossed aside.
Most of it was really old squeaky acrylic but she found a few skeins of actual wool and decided to grab them for me. This is Pace by Universal Yarns and it’s fingering weight made of 75/25 wool to nylon blend. And with five skeins this is just over 1,000 yards in the chocolate color. And I can tell that someone got this yarn at Tuesday Morning.
Will I knit with this? I really don’t know. It doesn’t feel bad when I squish the skein and the color isn’t terrible. But it doesn’t really grab me as yarn that says “knit me now!”. So after a careful freezer and heat cycle to kill any weird hitchhikers I will tuck this into my stash for a rainy day. Or maybe I’ll list it as willing to trade on Ravelry. I’m just happy my momma knows the way to my heart!

Thanks to some grandparents distractions and babysitting I managed to finish out the last of Dino Jr! Last we spoke I really only had the eyes and scales left to do.
I managed to dig through my mom’s button stash in her sewing room and find two pink-ish small buttons that made perfect eyes. Jellybean is old enough now I’m confident he won’t chew on and/or choke on them. And I don’t plan on letting PB play with this one. But I thought my button choice worked nicely.
The scales cranked out quickly and the only mod I made was to only knit two A scales instead of three. I knew I would never fit them all onto the dino without making them looked bunched up. My seaming technique leaves a little to be desired. But I erred on the side of making them Jellybean proof versus picture perfect.
All in all this was a fun knit and a good pattern. I need to work on reducing my ladders but I would probably knit this one again. And the bonus is that I managed to get this all complete out of sight of Jellybean so I’m considering tucking this away for a Christmas present!
If anyone is interested by notes, yarn usage, mods, etc are all on my Ravelry page for this project. This is probably an adventurous beginner pattern and I would say give it a whirl if you have a dino lover in your knitworthy list.

My parents recently did some furniture shuffling to give Jellybean his own bed in the den when we visit. Kid has been camping out on air mattress since he outgrew their crib. (Not that he minds). And this put a bee in my mothers bonnet and she started cleaning. Well she unearthed some treasures!
She found my sister and I’s old potholder weaving loom. And it still had a project sitting on it! This has to be no less than 15-18 years old because I think we put this aside before my sister and I started high school??
Jellybean and I sat down to play with it and we decided to finish the potholder. It was right up my four year old’s alley as it was a great way to help him learn patterns and sequences.
After a bit we had a finished potholder with obvious tension problems but functional none the less! Jellybean was super excited and put the pot holder to work in our play kitchen set. And I made a note to get a better hook to weave with, especially for the finishing.
And I actually have two looms, the plastic one with the project on it and then a wood and metal one pictured above. I need to look up some YouTube refreshers but I’m thinking (hoping) that maybe Jellybean and I can do some side by side crafting over the winter? Time will tell…
