Barely There Shawl Progress

My vanilla stockinette projects seem be taking most of my attention here lately but I have made some barely there progress on my Around Every Corner shawl.

I am still in the first section that uses the main color. My main color is some oldl/deep stash of Cascade sock yarn in a green color. The pattern isn’t complicated but does require counting to make sure I create the correct number of increases. It just hasn’t “calling to me” from the WIP pile.

It may need to marinate for a bit? Happy Knitting!!

To The Decreases!!

On the road again….just can’t wait to NOT be on the road again! But I guess the upside is that my Musselburgh is making some really good progress. I’m ready to start the decreases!

The catch is that I hope I don’t play yarn chicken. I have approximately 11 grams left which the pattern and internet tell me should be enough. But that floppy mess of yarn looks AWFULLY small, lol.

I am really loving this yak blend yarn. It has a nice soft feel to the fabric and because the fiber naturally starts with a darker color there is a lot of depth to the dyework. This is a skein of Yak Sock in the Hectate color from Moonstone Dyeworks. I would definitely buy this base again.

Musselburgh On The Road

My Musselburgh project hit the road this week. I have made some pretty decent progress in the hours and hours of stockinette this project calls for. Still doesn’t look very wintery here in Kansas but I love the project matches the landscape!

Based on the weight of my yarn cake, I think I might be halfway through my hat? I am just knitting stockinette until I have 10 grams of my skein left. It’s the perfect holiday project that doesn’t require any brain space!

Knitting With Handspun

A wise spinner told me that I shouldn’t wait to start knitting with my handspun. I should reap the benefits of my new found skill so matter how “good” I think my yarn is or isn’t. So I grabbed my recently finished teal skein and set to making a hat.

I cast on 72 stitches using a US 8 needles and started ribbing. I don’t have a plan or a pattern. I am just winging it and monitoring how much yarn I am using so that I leave enough for the crown decreases.

So far it is really neat seeing what the yarn is doing with the thick and thin bits. I can really see how that plays out in the stockinette section. I am pretty certain I will keep this hat in my hat collections because it is just too special.

Hospital Knitting Day Two

My Dad did really well with his procedure and he got to binge like ALL the football games in his hospital room. So on day two I plugged in my headphones with a podcast and cranked on my Musselburgh.

I am finally on to the main body of the hat and done with DPNs for now. I checked my gauge like the pattern said and my gauge is coming up tighter than the directions. I did some math and decided to fudge it rather than frog and cast on with bigger needles. I added some more increases to make sure the hat won’t be a head squeezer.

This is really nice zen kniting just going round and round. I think this could be a good purse or travel project. Not a lot of thinking but really satisfying to watch the hat come to life.

Happy Knitting!!

Hospital Knitting

Knitting can make a lot of situations better. My father had a routine medical procedure that necessitated some waiting room and hospital room knitting. I thought it would be a nice pairing to work on his Christmas Socks.

I am about to finish the leg and start the cuff ribbing. I pressed my hoodie pocket into service as a skein minder. I got a few looks in the waiting room but it kept my work tidy, lol.

A Hat Is Forming Quickly

I blinked and a hat seems to be falling off of my needles! My Baby Blend Basic Hat it cruising towards completion.

I finished the brim in snap. I did end up working a turned brim and attached the cast on end to my live stitches after six inches of stockinette. Thus by the power of math I have a three inch brim!

I did go down a needle size to a US 7 to work the body of the hat. I felt like I wanted a denser and warmer fabric for the remainder of the hat. At this rate I should be ready for decreases in two more blinks!

Happy Knitting!!

It’s (Finally) A HO!

I have been struggling with a lingering cold (thanks to my children) that was thankfully not COVID. But it has left my energy levels drained to the point I just needed simple knitting the past few evenings. So I have been working on my Dad’s 2021 Christmas Socks while I lay in bed.

The silver lining? I have finished the first sock completely and zoomed through the foot of the second sock. It does help that this is sport weight sock yarn on size 3 US needles. I am just ready to start the heel on sock number two.

Maybe I do have a shot at actually finishing these things before Christmas! Happy Knitting!!

Ready for Grafting

I did it! I made it to the point on my Rainbow Garter Wrap where I could graft my current work to the portion of the All My Stitches that I abandoned!

YouTube showed me that grafting in garter is pretty easy and only had one “pattern” to remember. But y’all….it really did take me a minute to get my tension right. I started off WAY too tight and then I went to loose. After about three inches I did settle into a nice rhythm and tension.

It took me about 45 minutes to graft all the way across and my shawl is blocking in my laundry room. I hope to snag some cute pictures to show you folks later this week! Happy Knitting!!

The Second Cuff On The First Sock

Basically this point I have knit this pair of socks all inside the first sock given all the ripping back and re-knitting I have done on my Dad’s 2021 Christmas Socks. But I persevere.

I’m finally through the leg and starting the cuff again. Another hour’s worth of work and I should be done with this sock. I have the second sock already started and its toe waiting on holders.

I am really hoping the second sock goes much smoother as I will have the first sock to follow as a template, lol. Happy Knitting!!
